1. I've not swapped mine. A lot of us like to keep it traditional rather than "improve"
2. Buying online whilst offering more choice does not allow you the luxury of picking up the instrument immediately unlike a shop. So it stands to reason people will offer a lot of information to give potential sellers enough to go on. It's always the stuff that is listed as "photos to follow" or coupled with just a short paragraph that seems to hang around longer.
3. Welcome to the forum I do hope 38 isn't old enough for a mid life crisis though
4. Bonjour Xtof
5. Welcome to the forum
6. I spent months and months reading everything I could about instruments as I saved up so I knew (or had read at least!) about all the parts before I started to learn properly
7.
You could take someone's eye out with that!
8. I'm tempted & there is a cheaper one on EBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Violin-bassguitar-ea...=item439d8bb475 but must resist
9. That'd be it. Cheers Jon
10. It's Rob Grill from The Grass Roots miming along to a session bass players excellent bassline but what is the Hofner but bigger-esque bass?
11.
Unwrapped it, given it a quick going over. Obviously needs a set-up & a decent set of strings, but it really is not a bad bass - quite pleasantly surprised.
I must confess all of this sounds like a lot of fun and they certainly look cool. Whilst I massively approve of a charity getting money over Argos the one danger I sense is new players owning a badly set up bass that you wouldn't get from my local Independant music shop for example. I reckon most here know what they are doing and will have a great time modding these I do suspect a few new players may well struggle on with poorly set up kit. It'll be like the 70s & 80s all over again!
12. The irony is this thread will probably be the reality in a few months. I know what we're all like
13. I put some La Bella flats on mine. Really heavy gauge and I had to re cut the nut. Sounded awesome although it took it away from that traditional Ricky sound.
14. I too hung around in the Bassworld days but went away for a few years. It's great fun second time around Welcome
15. On the plus side my 62RI is a 1963 original! Sweet!
16. Happy Birthday for Monday. I hope you've got enough cake for everyone here!
17. I love those Antiqua Fenders. The CIJ RI Fenders were a lot greener but I like the originals. Hagstrom basses I know from The Eagles (although 4 string not 8 string) and I thought they were a pretty well known make. I also think Cheap Trick and 80s Glamsters Enuff Z'Nuff, if you'll forgive the obscure reference.

I've used one of these on a recording session. Nice bass actually. Obviously I wouldn't play it live. Image, y'know
18. using the same theory as this seller http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FENDER-PRECISION-BAS...533796740282929
19. I agree with Doddy here. I'd add this site as great for second hand too
20. Annoyingly the seller hasn't been in contact yet to acknowledge my payment so I hope there isn't a problem. It's been 7 days tomorrow. I too would like to know how to play 12 bar
21. Hi Kyle - Welcome to the forum
22. I mainly play with fingers but I strung my bass with Rotosound black nylons for the recording of our last album. I used a pick on a couple of tracks. There were no obvious problems with the string life from what I could tell (& I played them a lot). However the tuning tended to fluxuate a bit if I dug in hard.
23. There was a member join recently who called himself Spacehog. I had to go on wikipedia to see if he was from the band...he wasn't.
24. To answer the questions on volume I have one of the old 90s USA Ampeg SVT 210 cabs and I've taken mine out with a 5 piece band a few times. I've had 3 different soundmen comment on how good it sounded. Mic'd up it absolutely delivers and in smaller venues it holds its own without going through the PA. I don't know about these new ones but if I sold mine it'd be about £100 more than Lozz wants! And the modification to have it on it's side is exactly what I would have done. So have a BUMP on me
