1. I went to a friend's 40th last night. She wanted to sing a couple of tunes & have her husband play guitar. As he can't play & she can't sing I was brought in as a ringer to sort of up the musicianship. Thankfully it was a very supportive crowd & I enjoyed it far more than I thought I would. That said, I wouldn't want to see it on YouTube anytime soon.
2. If I were in the market for one I'd snap this up. Very cool
3. I remember an Alien Sex Fiend single in the 80s that was just the note of A for 3mins. 16ths too!
4. Welcome Stuee Great introduction. Sounds like you've had a varied & interesting time, and have some great gear
5. I don't want to be friends with everyone who sees the band so we have a page http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=1732...3536&ref=mf that we use to promote gigs etc. Seems to work for us although it's a fairly minimal effort. Only the singer and I have access to moderate it, the other band members are just members. Too many chiefs otherwise
6. All mine are in hard cases. Probably more a knock on effect off GAS then for any reason (i.e. the buying of the cases).
7. I remember when he turned his back on ill fitted toupes!?!
8. I'm 99% certain to be in on the Saturday. Can I suggest Basschat members walk around with their left hand raised so we know who each other are?
9. Welcome to Basschat
10. It's come up on a couple of threads to very mixed opinions.
11. I've just bought an old 60s copy of his vinyl album "How to Play Electric Bass", an interesting curiosity piece if nothing else
12. Welcome to Basschat
13. No! It's Friday night, you must have been drinking & you'll regret that in the morning!
14. Clarence White (RIP) or Robbie Robertson
15. Keep it simple means "keep it simple". It doesn't mean "Only play root notes" and it is not a mandate to be boring. I'm increasingly amazed by fantastic basslines which inspire me to work them out... resulting in me thinking "is that all he was doing?" D'oh!
16. Um, belated greetings then
17. Welcome Druid
18. I like it. He's wrecked its resale value but easy enough to rectify if not to your tastes. I've stripped 2 70s basses but stopped short of a blue wood stain
19.
I totally agree on the dependency on the music but i always feel there is a natural discrimination against pick wielders..
Nah, only the ones who smell of cheese! There is a natural discrimination against bass players, there is a natural discrimination against pick wielders and then there are those who just shut up and play
20.
Initially it's the aesthetics.
A point not stated enough. Of course this is 100% true. We all focus on what occurs afterwards
21. Fingers. Pick. Thumb. Whatever gets you through the night
22. Hi John
23.
Clip of the band using one, wonder if it is the same one in the photo ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B_hsp4SBwO4
It's not. I thought that too but it belonged to Dylan's bassist at the time Harvey Brooks. A great shot and I have a copy of this photo hanging up in my living room I also have a shot of Danko using his one with the Band too. I love it!
