Get new covers and rub them gently for a bit with a dry brillo pad. It's a cheat I've used in the past and makes them look authentic. Don't rub them too much in the same direction and go for an even covering - you'll be amazed at how good it looks

I'm pretty much with chardbass on this one. I don't see why that Michael Jackson guy is troubling anyone; that video has only had 186 views, of which a few will be curious basschatters. I won't pretend his performance was life changing but he's hardly going to make his millions or steal shows from my band. Good luck to him. The tribute scene isn't my thing but it can be done very well & clearly there is a market for it. Live & let live I say

Ace Frehley's post Kiss band Frehley's Comet at the Hammersmith Odeon in March (17th to be precise) 1988. Bassman John Regan fell over onstage and then tried to convince the audience it was part of the act. He fooled nobody.

I use my Hofner Verithin bass all the time now. I read a lot of negativity around short scale basses but having tried one it is now my go to bass. I like the look of the Hagstrom stuff and used to own a Jack Cassady bass. I haven't suffered from GAS for years so I'm sticking with the Hofner

My guitarist works full time as a guitar teacher and you just have to protect yourself; he gets a lot of older clients with important jobs who won't take direction but such silliness comes with the job. Losing money and wasting slots is not acceptable though. I think a general rule to all students needs to be introduced tactfully where nobody is blamed. Whether you claim in advance or students are fined for cancellations you then simply stick to this rule. Then there is much less danger of the guy being a prat about it as he's had the rules explained to him. I do think a rule for all though so as he doesn't feel singled out - the rest won't mind as they (hopefully) show up anyway

There is a lot to be said for pressing 1000, I'd vary quotes and get quotes for different batches. Double the amount is not double the cost and you'd be amazed how quickly the pile goes down. The card record sleeve style certainly is the cheapest way of doing the sleeve. I've heard good things about Redeye too - I can't remember who we used last time around but it was a digipack anyway which is the most expensive. Remember to get the thing on ITunes, Amazon MP3 and Bandcamp as digital sales really do aid massively these days

I'm in my 3rd year with Musicguard. I pay about £11 a month for £5k worth of stuff. Never had to claim but I figure it was worth covering stuff as I'm out playing a fair bit

I couldn't be bothered to click the link to hear them but they are a London based unsigned indie band, they are unlikely to be looking for Dr. Funkenstein. I don't see the problem. They are obviously just trying to maximise the chances of finding someone. I've played with a keyboard player who was really a bssist and several multi instrumentalists who were basically guitarists we didn't let play guitar. It's only rock 'n' roll after all...

I use Google Chrome's ad blocker so don't get anything but bizarrely got the local "ladies" one via the work computer. Not sure I'd be taking any of them home to meet my Mum though

Seem to be plenty of very average to slightly poor bands tripping over bookings though and I know of a few acts who are great who struggle to get bookings. Nice soundbite but I'm not sure it's the whole picture. Certainly though one rogue band mate can really drag down a whole act if the band isn't careful.

My only rig now is an Orange Terror 500w head with the flightcased Orange SP210 cab. I guess it's just over a grand to replace it these days although I spent £432 and £423 on the head & cab. With the flightcase and the decent cables it would put it firmly over the thousand mark but I certainly have got great tones from cheaper rigs. It's light and it does look pretty neat though

I like them. I've not been playing my Fender's for the last 9 months as I've fallen for my Hofner. Been thinking of selling the 2 remaining ones but this could be a great second bass that wouldn't be so much money sitting idly in a case.
