1. There is a lot to be said for pressing 1000, I'd vary quotes and get quotes for different batches. Double the amount is not double the cost and you'd be amazed how quickly the pile goes down. The card record sleeve style certainly is the cheapest way of doing the sleeve. I've heard good things about Redeye too - I can't remember who we used last time around but it was a digipack anyway which is the most expensive. Remember to get the thing on ITunes, Amazon MP3 and Bandcamp as digital sales really do aid massively these days
2. Case Hardin is looking for additional musicians. We will happily audition any instrumentation beyond guitar, bass, drums.. so think mandolin, banjo, fiddle, piano, accordian, organ etc. Ability to sing preferable, but not essential. If you are interested, or know of someone who might be, please mail us at [email protected], or message us on Facebook. There is plenty to look at on You Tube to get an idea of what you will be letting yourself in for. Case Hardin is signed to Clubhouse Records and plan to return to the studio in the coming months to record the follow up to the critically well received 'Every Dirty Mirror'
3. The going rate I've been quoted is around £200
4. There was a thread but I don't believe there is ever a problem with another thread
5. It's never good getting ripped off but it's probably not appropriate to share his details online
6. I'm in my 3rd year with Musicguard. I pay about £11 a month for £5k worth of stuff. Never had to claim but I figure it was worth covering stuff as I'm out playing a fair bit
7. I couldn't be bothered to click the link to hear them but they are a London based unsigned indie band, they are unlikely to be looking for Dr. Funkenstein. I don't see the problem. They are obviously just trying to maximise the chances of finding someone. I've played with a keyboard player who was really a bssist and several multi instrumentalists who were basically guitarists we didn't let play guitar. It's only rock 'n' roll after all...
8. I use Google Chrome's ad blocker so don't get anything but bizarrely got the local "ladies" one via the work computer. Not sure I'd be taking any of them home to meet my Mum though
9.
Getting gigs is easy if your band is any good. I'd say the hardest thing is to get all the band members to pull in roughly the same direction.
100% agree with the later part... Seem to be plenty of very average to slightly poor bands tripping over bookings though and I know of a few acts who are great who struggle to get bookings. Nice soundbite but I'm not sure it's the whole picture. Certainly though one rogue band mate can really drag down a whole act if the band isn't careful.
10. My set up onstage (well, on floor!) this week
11. Being a child of the 70s I thought the Wombles were great. Who cares whether something is cool or not?
12.
I think people are finally getting over the "You're not a proper Bass player if you play with a pick!" thing, mainly because it's a moronic point of view and demonstrably wrong.
I hope so. I play both styles & never understood why a certain style would be deemed more credible than another. Hadn't noticed an increase or decrease though
13.
Are cases backline?
I rest my rig on the flightcase so yes, it's included as far as I'm concerned and as far as my musicguard insurance is concerned. Not sure if it's included in the spirit of the OP but I use it to raise the rig so yes
14. My only rig now is an Orange Terror 500w head with the flightcased Orange SP210 cab. I guess it's just over a grand to replace it these days although I spent £432 and £423 on the head & cab. With the flightcase and the decent cables it would put it firmly over the thousand mark but I certainly have got great tones from cheaper rigs. It's light and it does look pretty neat though
15.
Never thought I would hear you say that you've moved away from your Fenders
I did a while ago. The Hofner sits better tonally for me and it became somewhat of a joke on my circuit with all these bassists showing up with P basses. Don't get me wrong, big Fender fan but I like a change. I've only gigged with my Verythin bass since last November, other than on the upright.
16. I like them. I've not been playing my Fender's for the last 9 months as I've fallen for my Hofner. Been thinking of selling the 2 remaining ones but this could be a great second bass that wouldn't be so much money sitting idly in a case.
17. Playing live since December 1989 with only a couple of gaps; hundreds but I've never sat down to pinpoint the exact figure.
18. In my previous bands I did BVs but in this one just bass, leaving me free to throw shapes
19. I use the Orange SP210 cab with mine and I've had favourable comments from my band, other bands & various soundmen. I flightcased my cab so sit the cab on the flightcase to boost my ability to hear it well onstage. Of course bigger gigs tend to be mic'd up so no need for anything more
20. I'm another Jellyfish / Imperial Drag fan from back in the day. Two great examples of bands who should have been so much bigger
21.
Aparently, they still made records after 1979, but I don't believe it personally
I heard that too but assumed it was just a myth
22. Some punters say the funniest thing; The fact that your drunken friend / relative standing next to you plays a bit too doesn't mean I am going to hand over my pride and joy just to discover the true meaning of the phrase "a bit!"
23. Rubber Soul era, pic in this thread http://basschat.co.uk/topic/51888-capo/page__p__515534__hl__mccartney%20capo__fromsearch__1#entry515534
24. Surprised nobody mentioned the classic Abbey Road studios photo of McCartney using one
25. Well I love a good tele but I'm rather partial to a nice Gretsch, a decent semi acoustic or anything that looks classic so strats, SGs, Danelectros, Les Pauls...
