1. Doozy of a rig mate :) Love that jazz!
2. If anyone wants to come to this and needs a place to crash, I live about 15-20 mins walk away and will be happy to put people up if they fancy coming but not paying to stay over.
3. There is more than likely a bass face under this bass hair......
4. Lakland DJ4. Had one and hated it. Just no idea what all the fuss is about. As for the side LED's arguement. Yes, there is a pose factor attached to them, but I know how useful they are as well on a poorly lit stage and it annoys our guitarist that someone else is stealing his limelight +1 on MIA Fenders. For the money, very overrated. Every one I have played has had a shocking factory setup. New Trace Elliot amps and SWR Redhead combos. Disgustingly over priced for what is a very mediocre sounding amp. Graphite necks. Ewwwwww. SR5 B strings. Parrrrrrp.
5. Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude! Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
6. Wicked amps these. I remember being sat in on a rehearsal and listening to Paul Banks of Shed 7 play through one of these. Sounded so lush! And that is a good price too
7. I'll trade the entire board for a firm handshake and a sexual favour.
8. After reading your initial post, I'd lean towards recommending you a Precision.
9. I did bid on it, but couldn't be there to up my bid at the end. Lesson in not trying to be a smart arse.
10. Lost out on this cuz I had to be out when the auction ended
11. Played at Moho Live last night with Chuck Ragan of Hot Water Music. I've been lucky enough to play with a few big names now (mainly metal) but none have even come close to being as nice a guy as Chuck. As soon as we got to the venue, he was helping us in with our gear, he showed a genuine interest in what we were doing and was the first to come and congratulate us on our performance afterwards and offer words of encouragement. It was such a refreshing change to the (usually) more established names we have played with in the past who even when they have turned up to gigs where more people have been there to see my band, have been pig ignorant and completely ignored any attempts to be sociable! I will definitely come to watch Chuck again if he comes back to Manchester. I'd recommend anyone who might be interested does the same. To borrow a famous TV quote......what a guy!
12. I once went along to play at a jam night and found myself surrounded by people who wanted to tell me their stories of past glory and generally bounce their incomprehensible soundwaves off the side of my head. I quickly discovered that it is not for me. I have a friend who is a regular at one where I used to live and because he is the only bassist in the place who can play, he is a minor celebrity. I appreciate they have their uses and, done right, can be a really good fun way to connect with musicians, but it just isn't for me. I'd much rather go and sit with my guitarist and bash out some tunes
13. Interesting stuff this! A friend of mine, who occasionally pops up on these forums (Darryll) has a nickel allergy so I will be letting him know about this! Personally, I just couldn't put up with using stainless steel strings. They feel and sound nasty to me
14. Deftones are up there with Blur as my favourite band. Really can't wait for Eros and really hope that Chi gets well soon! They are playing Leeds/Reading this year and I was really really tempted to go just for that. I know they are a hit and miss live act, but every time I have seen them they've been amazing
15.
although a shuker has caught my eye... if only i had the money
Which one? I'm lusting after the singlecut that Jon has in stock at the moment........its just beautiful!
16. The spec on them looks half decent and I actually don't mind Hartke amps. OK, they aren't world beaters, but any time I have used one I have been able to get a decent sound out of it and they are pretty good value for money! So definitely want to hear from anyone who has played through that beasty looking Kilo!
17. Has anyone played one of these amps? I'm curious to know more from anyone who has
18. "Purrs like a cat"? I'd rather it "sounded like a bass"........
19. Mate no need to post stuff like that - if he's been offered more for it he has every right to take it.
20. I've used loads of different basses in metal bands. If you are looking for something which allows you to play at speed, I'd go for a jazz. I used a Sandberg Cali JM4 and loved it. If you are more concerned about cutting through with your tone, I'd recommend a stingray - probably something which many would disagree with, but they really do allow you to be heard.
21. I reckon Ashdown's are alright. I do understand what people say about the wooly tone, but yes that can be EQ'd out. Want amps that blow up? Try Warwick. No exaggeration here - I went into Sound Control Salford a while back and asked to be plugged in to one of the tubepath amps. Turned it on, played for 10 seconds, then nothing. After much lead and cab changing, we came to the conclusion the amp was buggered. He then went and fetched another one of the same head. This one popped instantly. The third one did better. About 30 seconds better to be exact. At this point I decided I wasn't interested in this particular amp.
22. I've always been the cool one in my band..........
