2. Definitely not.
3. Wow.......having read all this, I'm actually glad I didn't go and that to me is a real shame. Jon Shuker did actually say in an email he wasn't looking forward to having to listen to lots of awful slapping!
4. Bump for getting the model wrong.........
5. My guitarist has a pretty much brand spanking new Marshall 1959HW head for sale. Absolutely lush sounding amp and LOOUUUDDDD! If interested, make an offer or I know he would love to swap for an Orange head. Thankyouplease.
6. This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen. Just behind the time I saw a sheep fall down a hill.
7. My advice having owned both basses is this. Someone has mentioned earlier about trying a different preamp in your DJ. I would strongly recommend this. I really didn't like the sound of the DJ when I owned it, in fact I think it's one of the poorest sounding basses I've owned. Stingray's can be really variable. I bought a used one and sold it on this forum and regretted it pretty soon after. They are wonderful basses and a nice playing Ray is one of the nicest basses you can own. Very distinct sound. All in all, I'd recommend trying a different preamp in a DJ if possible and if it still isn't to your liking, then you should be able to easily flog it for the price of a Ray. However, in my experience, Ray's have really really naff B strings and they just dont look as nice as the 4's. As for the Sterling, pretty much the same beast with a different profile.
8. Lookin forward to this one mate. From a metal monster such as yourself, I'm expecting it to be heavier than an elephant in lead duds.
9.
I suppose I'll be bucking some trends here, but honestly in my opinion anything other than a Fender Jazz or P-Bass is a waste of time. I also don't get having more than four strings. The lower B just gives you five extra notes that most people never have a need for at the expense of a reasonable-sized neck, and the higher strings on those gigantic six or sevens just sound piddly and weak. Again, just my opinion, but whenever I see a bass player with more than four strings on his bass I expect either some seriously boring overindulgent widdling, or just a shoddy performance by someone who hopes that people will assume he's really good because he has extra strings. I really, really dislike the look of these overdesigned luthier basses that are made of sixteen different types of contrasting wood, all of which would be better suited to veneering a French dresser, and they all have fourteen strings and fanned frets and weird body shapes and pickups at funny angles and generally look a bit like someone nailed a ladder to a goldfish. And you never actually see anyone playing them live, presumably because there aren't many bands out there where the guitarists have twelve-neck guitars and the drummers have a 400-piece kit. After having spent some serious time in studios recently, I don't actually see the need for bass amp heads. Speakers, sure. But every time we tracked bass, we'd go through the gear we had to find a match, and every time without fail we passed over Ampeg, Markbass, Peavey and Mesa bass heads in favour of an old Marshall guitar head. And you tend to pay a little bit more for bass amps ayway, and they're usually overdesigned to the point where if something goes wrong it's out of commission for ten weeks. I don't get bass effects, either. Put it this way: A bass player with a load of effects on the floor is either doing something radically new and different, or he's just forgotten what the bass is for in music. Usually it's the latter.
I appreciate you have a point of view, but have you ever played anything other than a Fender? Seriously dude, there are instruments selling for more money for a reason...... And just because someone has 5 extra notes you expect them to widdle or be crap?
10. Just been having a read of some of the other stuff on those threads. Very useful info So useful I have sat at my desk doing nothing for an hour....oops.........
11. Thanks very much for this guys! I do appreciate a lot of what is being said here and while I've done pretty well with "originals" bands for my relative youth, I realise I am entering a field where I know precious little, but I am aware it will need good promotion which costs! Agreed as well on that we are going with mainstream (no insult detected ) material but we are trying to play around with arrangements where applicable. Whether this is what we use as a selling point or not, this is where my lack of knowledge could be an issue Will get reading on the above though, many thanks again guys!
12. Last night I played at a friends wedding with 4/5 of my current band. We were all a little apprehensive about doing it at first as we were asked to include tunes like Crazy In Love by Beyonce and Toxic by Britney Spears. When we actually got down to arranging them how we wanted to, it was such fun! We then decided after an enjoyable night that we might as well give it a shot at actually doing it more often, so can anyone on here who is in a function/wedding band offer me some tips on how to do it well and more importantly, how to go about putting your name in the frame for getting gigs?
13. Well I did a set for a wedding yesterday and we pretty much learned the tunes on the day, so I think the last one was for Beating Heart Baby by Head Automatica.
14. I used to own a DJ4. Looked gorgeous, played beautifully, but I don't really like the passive tone, so I reckon if you stuck a John East in it, it would sound absolutely wicked! All the DJ's no matter what colour look absolutely drop dead gorgeous!

18. Possibly the worst thing I have ever seen.
19. I'm interested
20. I'm not a big fan of MM's or sunburst, but that is pretty special. It just works! I've had a play on a friends MM and despite struggling to get comfortable with it, I found myself picking it up again every few minutes after I put it down........
21. Oh my days! That's gotta be the nicest looking warwick I have ever seen!!!
22. I think I really like your bass
