I believe the MU/musicians union give their members PLI as a matter of course but that may only apply to that individual member and not a whole band.
That appears to be correct. None of us is a member, so it would be too expensive just now.

There also exists a Fender Aerodyne Precision, which is slightly different from the Aerodyne Jazz. when I tried them both, they were a bit different both tonally and in feel. I ended up with the Precision version.
Yeah I think it may have been through Zurich, not totally sure though as I'm not the one who dealt with it at the time. We're not registered as a business though as "we're not a covers band" but will do the odd bit here and there for friends and family or if the money is right... EDIT: As far as I can remember, all band members are listed on the insurance details. I'll try and find out from our drummer who sorted it out.
That sounds like the right option, let me know if you can find out anything more, especially who the insurer is
At the start of the year we were asked to play a covers gig and needed PLI. We could get it one off for about £30 or 12 months cover for about £75 or £80, and we knew it would be likely that more would come up throughout the year. Think we ended up playing 4 or 5 this year so it worked out that we saved money on getting one off cover. Something to think about.
Good to know. What insurer did you get iyours with? Can you get this kind of cover even if your band is not consituted as business or any other official form?

Cheers, I'll pass on the info to the organizers
-
We've been booked to do a 40th birthday gig in a place we never gigged at before, and the organizers came back to us asking for our PLI certificate. We don't have any, but we were planning to get all this sorted in the new year, after constituting the band as a business etc. We still need to show a PLI certificate to the event organizers asap, so we thought we would go for a one-off cover for this particular event, which the organizer will pay for. Any recommendations on insurers we can contact for this?

What was the gear that you thought was poo, at the time...
razze06 replied to Moos3h's topic in General Discussion
When I was starting off on bass, back in the late 80's, I passed up: 1) a second hand fender P, thought it felt too difficult to play - got something called a manson or mason or something instead 2) a second hand Gibson Tbird, bought a brand new, shiny and "just-out" Ibanez soundgear 800LE instead. Still have it. Also, me and my mates started out using the drummer's dad's old band gear from the early 70's, including an italian made valve "Davoli" bass amp, which I clearly remember had a steel chassis and sheet metal bits on the side of the amp bit. Ended its life chucked down a hillside, to see how far it would roll... -
I've got this for sale: TecAmp S210 Maybe it's what you're looking for?
Dunno about the Dimarzio - I just assumed it was a generic Mudbucker. Yup, it's a coiltap switch. You can't help thinking that this must have been a rather nice bass once ...
If mine is anything to go by, it is nice but quirky in many respects. You either love it or hate it. In general, it defies expectations. It sits in an unusual position, making your left arm stretch out a bit to reach the first few frets. The profile and size of the neck is also quite different from your average fender offering, bigger and thicker, but not uncomfortable for me. It surely will raise some questions at a gig
-
Neck is OK, slightly banana'd but perfectly playable, especially with the heavier gauge strings on. The banana would probably be more noticeable with lighter strings. The trussrod works, but is really very stiff. I play 90% fingerstyle, 10% with a pick, 0% slap & tap. As currently set up, this bass works best with a pick but is perfectly playable fingerstyle so long as you have reasonably strong L/H fingers. A better set-up merchant than me (not difficult!) would obviously be able to improve matters, but for such a cheap bass there seems little point in paying a luthier to tweak it.
The neck on mine is also banana'd, but still playable. Indeed putting heavy gauge on helped both feel and tone, compared to the wimpy rotosound flats i had on earlier. Is that a Dimarzio model one pickup you got there? Do I see a switch for coil tapping or something in there as well? Not coming to london anytime soon, so best luck with your sale. If I ever happen to come daan saaf and you still have it, I may just take it

In one of the places here in Edinburgh, most rooms have a peavey tour 450 head and the matching 4x10 and 1x15. Lots of volume, but not much to my taste. Often brought my own amp. The premium room has got valve kit (SVT + 8x10) for both bass and guitars, but i feel that it's been abused a bit for too long. Nice and clean and all. Other places I remember going to had, in no particular order, Peavey 400 Mark III + matching 2x15 (I actually like it, especially for the more aggressive work), battered TE 4x10 combos, some horrendous HH combo that would go from BOOM to fart without any other options (I went for the boom). Going rate is about £10/15 per hour in the evenings. Never had to pay extra to hire backline. If asked to, i'd expect to pay around £6/8 per hour tops

*****Now SOLD, just finalising delivery***** Up for sale (or trade, see below) is my TeCamp S210 cab. It's the 4ohm version, 600W, really very loud and refined. As said before, it's a vertical 2x10 with tweeter. The tweeter has a separate control inside one of the handle recesses. Detailed specs here I've had just over a year, and served me very well as a single cab for almost every situation. I've used it for small to medium gigs without PA, and for stage monitoring when PA support was available. Never left wanting for volume, clarity or reliability. I've always been able to carry it in one hand, and did most of my load ins and outs in a single trip to and from the car. Condition is good. It has been used for gigging, so it is not pristine. I have found a small nick in the tolex along one of the edges. It is in visible unless you run your finger over it, but i'll do my best to show it in pics. I could be interested in a trade involving a nice 4x10 or 2x12. I also like cold hard cash. £320, i'm happy to ship at cost, and can even deliver within reasonable distances. I'm in Edinburgh, anybody is welcome to come and try it. In the picture below, I had just wiped it down after a gig, and hadn't realized that the leftover water would reflect the flash so much! However, you can just about see the nick in the covering material on the left edge, at the same level as the bottom edge of the handle. If you have other trade ideas, try me. No basses or effects, just amps/cabs
Depends on the gig.... when we do larger weddings and corporates then definitely bring the Sound Engineer along as you do not want to be seen as amateur in those functions.
+1
Actually I think this one is a folded horn rather than a reflex. Do you reckon they have a good sound for hard rock?
Mine had as much low end as you wanted, but practically no top end. That suited me fine, but you better know. It's loud, but it fires the sound at your feet, meaning that you cant' hear yourself much at all, while people are passing out 20 meter into the room from the soundwave pressure... Yours will probably need a new driver anyway, so pick wisely
-
I have owned what I think is the evolution of this, the 1555. The 1555 is a 15' folded horn cab, not a reflex, so I'm not sure if it is even comparable. Mine sounded great with its original celestion sidewinder.

Recorded by a member of the audience at The Caves in Edinburgh, Children in Need 2010, using a camera phone. Jumping Jack Flash Candy Hi-Heel Sneakers The stage and venue is super boomy, so the bass has been really holowed out by the sound man, but overall not too bad...

Played The Caves in Edinburgh, which is a nice venue spread over several ancient cellars and basements. Nice big stage, but insanely boomy. Onstage sound was therefore really quite tinny, but hey, at least I could sort of hear myself most of the times. The sound guy worked hard to get us a good sound for the audience, so big thumbs up for him. It was also our first proper gig with an electronic drum kit and a dedicated backing singer. It was a charity event, and we got asked to do an early warmup set, then other singers and performers would do their show, and then we would be on again for an hour, just before the final act (a Robbie Williams tribute act, singer with recorded base). All went was going swimmingly if a bit late on schedule, until halfway through our second set, when the organiser shooed us off stage to let the final act on. We had a full dancefloor of people dancing and singing along (we had just finished playing Take me to the river). Apparently they were afraid that too many people would leave before the final act... Net result: full dancefloor to empty in one and a half songs. The guy doing the Robbie Williams stuff was actually very good, good singing and showmanship, but probably just not ideal for the occasion. More of a wedding/conference type of act IMO. So we came back on, and blasted through some good and energetic stuff, and the few remaining stragglers danced away until we had to pull the plug at 12. So all in all can't complain.
I would bet in this: http://www.rolandus.com/products/productde...amp;ParentId=33 I've played with it's predecessor, the KC-300 and my bass sounded lovely through it. Voices come out clean but you can never get rid of that typical Roland hi-fi'ish colour
You're probably right, but is it a busking amp? It still needs to be connected to the mains, and 30kgs is not exactly a feather
I've owned a few Tecamp cabs and know exactly what you mean about the tone, I too prefer the deeper old school tone. I recently traded a Aguilar GS212 for one of my Epi cabs and it's now for sale at BassDirect because I have made another final decision and bought some Bergs for the usual Kings ransom (they are worth it though!) Its up at a great price IMHO and sounds deep and big. Weighs 70lbs in an 8 ohm version but has casters to help it around. Definitely a good option and is worth looking at.
That's a very nice cab, tried one in a local shop and was very impressed by everything apart from the pricetag. With my luck, the one at bassdirect will be gone by the time I start considering my next purchase... Also, it may be a little big and loud? Mayeb the single 1x12 could do the trick. Gah, too many options!
This is probably your best bet.... http://www.roland.co.uk/products/productde...p=940&c=329
One input only i'm afraid...
If you like the sound of the Ashdown then why not just go for the ABM 210 Compact cab? Well within budget too... http://www.dolphinmusic.co.uk/product/3712...tml#sterling_uk
Actually, I was looking more at their 1x15 offerings, both in the ABM and MAG ranges. I tried one of the MAG ones and it sounded not bad at all, but hard to tell at guitar shop volume...
