https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/no-second-chance-again I don't know if its any better in real life but it does a bit to me

I have downloaded it and put it as an effect on the master , I don't quite know what it is doing, but it is there .
I have no problems with people submitting revisions to their mix, or even whole new second mixes if you want. Go for it, but lets say submissions in by Monday 14th, and I'll do the poll thing that evening?
So after all that , we DO have a second chance , I will have another go if i get the opportunity
-
A bit late for the mix competetion but a lot of it makes more sense now that I have re-read it after trying to do a mix . great stuff Si ,many thanks
-
Lurksalot, your mix could benefit from a bit more eq'ing to create a bit more space for everything in the mix.
Thanks for that , I will have to go and work out what it means, I know what the words say, but it the application I will have to learn
-
I have listened to the first 2 and think they are great , mine seems week by comparison ,but when everyone spills the beans on what they did , it will bring me along a couple of notches .
-
Ok , be gentle with me on this one but I have had a go , I will listen to the others as soon as I can , but like Skol I didn't want to have too much influence by others , not that I would have a clue how to do what anyone else does , https://soundcloud.com/lurksalot/no-second-chance

Yep , I kind of thought of a gang of bank robbers all wearing the same pair of (oversize) tights , with a reggae kind of feel .......but Ive moved on now
-
I have had a go but.... apart from the fact I am guessing at most of what I am doing , I havent got this K meter thing sussed yet (or even reaper come to mention it) , now I have a 'mix' but it doesn't play in reaper any more , I did render it to wav so I have got something, but I need to adjust something but while all the tracks show in reaper, I can't hear it . I will let the laptop cool down and start again on sunday , gig tommorrow, skirting board to fit, architrave to loft hatch and a radiator to fit to the front bedroom, half a tank of gas and pack of cigarettes................

How has your day been as a bassist?

I know the B9 does midi , but if I plug a midi keyboard ( tecnics digi piano thing with general midi etc) via 5 pin din into the B9 , will it send the midi signal through via the usb into my computer? . I am struggling a bit with this totally as I can't make it work. however , this piano has plenty of virtual sounds , instruments , drums and stuff already , and I can record audio piece of proverbial . Do I need the midi ? I think i do, but what am I missing regarding the signal chain?
While Reaper is not for me [I tried - but a few things missing for me] I did find this useful Lots of material on Midi in Reaper. Hope it helps. http://www.youtube.c...c.1.Ms8htt_Fx9M Garry
Wow cheers Garry , I have done a bit of searchiing , but that lot looks like the Holy Grail . I will stick that link on my faves and do some homework .
That's what i was thinking, but i also would have no idea where to start creating a drum loop. I'll maybe just record the bass track first and see how that goes. Cheers.
you should have a click track you can use that will help . Also If you write down a rough structure of the intended song..... intro 4bars / verse 1- 4bars / chorus/ V2 .....it will give you something to refer to when your head gets stewed. The lenght of each dependant on lyrics/ grooves etc I struggled with drums until I loaded drumcore3 free , it was the only intuitive thing I have found with this recording malarkey . Its a big download but is reeeeealllyy easy to use . Anyway , Hark at me offering advice on this topic .

Cheers guys I will invest I am sure , before the due date. I cannot get my head around the midi aspects ATM , sometimes it works sometimes not , these are the type things that frustrate me the most, I know it works becuase I have done it , but there must be a command or channel or a driver or some button that needs switching. I am thinking that the world of Midi is a must with recording , so I will have to get my head around it .

I am not sure whether anyone uses this sort of stuff anymore , but I have a Technics SL-PG480A going begging . It is purely a player and needs running into an amp and has Phono sockets on the rear and it comes with a remote control. It will need collecting from the Chester area first to shout BANANAS can have it Kev

Cheers Dad , your very kind , I wasn't expecting votes but having tried to lash something up for a month I just wanted to include it somewhere near the competition . I feel your pain with the process though, I was getting absolutley nowhere for ages , I took all day friday trying to mess with a drum midi and was on the verge of giving up , and thought I would try a drum loop program , and after a bit of fannying a lot of stuff just clicked . I have even just sussed out how to apply the plug ins , I have know idea what they do , but at least I am at the point where I can get started . and THAT is a miilion miles from where I was even a week ago . The reaper evaluation says I am on day 42 out of 60 , so it was getting a bit touch and go
-
cheers

I know I am miles to late for this, but for a laugh and just to show how good the others are you can have a listen to this , it might put you off though.

I recorded my first sounds yesterday , the sound of a penny dropping , stick at it , I have no finesse but I stuck something together

are there any super bands with poor bass players?
lurksalot replied to iconic's topic in General Discussion
I am sure some have off days , but listen to the bassline on Maggie may , some say it is full of ghost notes and muted tones , to me it sounds as if it was played after a bottle of scotch -
Egg Timer ? My head hurts now , The more I mess with this recording stuff, the less I seem to understand . 6 hrs today , and f*** all to show for it , mostly fannying with midi drums and not even getting as far as a simple drum pattern of any worth . One day something might click ......but that could be just the metronome , and even that seems odd at the moment
