1. it could just be some railway track cut into pieces and glued to a tree,
2. decoration , is not decoration , if it is not William Morris by kevin.ahern, on Flickr
3. I answered an ad from joinmyband about 2 years ago , I did an audition of sorts, but I just kept going back , I still haven't been told if I am in yet , but Have been gigging for 2 years with them and LOVE every minute of it , I still get miffed if we miss a rehaersal date. I guess I was really lucky , but I guess so are the rest of the guys. I had left my previous band because they put 3 new numbers in in 5 years, these boys put 3 in every rehearsal , fantastic.
4. I played my own birthday party on saturday , well it was at a pub in town , but a top crowd came along and danced the night away , a brilliant night, great fun , re book aswell , happy days .
5.
For crying out loud!! It's for this It has to be done!
Well I guess respect is due, but it does seem like a lot of effort just to stick a mic stand up your arse .
6. I love warwick stuff , and while I grabbed a bargain on a fretless streamer a while back , you do have to be looking for the deal , they are not everywhere , I have a Korean Spector and is my bass of first go to . the margins of manufacture are very very slim nowadays and my ear / palette is not refined enough to tell , and my touchy feely bit doesn't see the label
7. I love the energy of Blackpool and I think the are Noissetes brilliantly evocative and bring the genre alive .
8.
With my covers band, our fee is a minimum £200. Some places pay more, depending on bar-sales, but that is the minimum we play for. We usually say we will do the first for £200, then talk business afterwards. The majority of places now pay us more, as we generate the bar-sales - nothing like a couple of hours of classic punk covers to get large 40+ year old blokes out, drinking plenty of beer on a Friday night.
+ me though sometimes some of the guys see the dollar signs a little early for the parties , and while they do pay a bit better they are often the most enjoyable gigs
9. I knew the weather could do a job on todays events thats why I planned yesterday .........however ........I didn't make it ,due to subsequent engagements cropping up !!!! My sister and BIL went and thoruoghly enjoyed it , so I might have to get it in the diary early for next time !!
10. Good to see some interest , I will be taking my 12yo daughter, so I think it will be more of an overall experience thing for her , if I get a chance to some of the later stuff I will , but it may depend on interest levels!! I did notice a lot of emphasis on drinking rules on the website , so I guess it has been an issue , still should be fun anyway
11.
I was playing a gig on Tuesday night and, never having broken a string in 35 years of bass playing - you know what's coming - I managed to break the E string on my main bass.
I guess thats a real bummer , but my advice would be to change your strings before they to 35 years old
12. I am hoping to go to Liverpool for the Mathew Street Festival tomorrow , and was just thinking are there any BCers involved in any of the bands ? It seems to be a big show this weekend and should be fun
13. It's probably a bit jazz anyway, so the notes don't really matter , as long as the facial expressions look like you meant it , it works
14. just turn it up , twiddle some knobs and enjoy.............
15. I use a Sampson airline , I really have difficulty telling any loss of tone , I love it .
16. I have an ampeg pf500 now a Schroeder 210112L zoom b2.1u and a sampson airline wireless all new around 1K but the pf and schroeder were pre-used once or twice . this is a well slimmed down version of what I used to carry round and it works a treat , granted it doesn't look quite as impressive as 6 foot high stack with lights flashing on the head , but it sounds as good and carries a lot easier .
17. I think your amp is probably at a sweeter spot with more trons pumping through it , I had a couple of Hi Fi amps that had a function that would restrict the output allowing you to crank up the internals without smashing the windows , the makers reckoned the amp worked more efficiently when working a bit harder .
18.
In the case you mention, you refer to both "secondary sound insulation glazing" and "double glazing" in the Licence. Can you tell me what precisely was fitted? One type is good and the other could be a waste of money. Balcro.
The license did not specify 'sound insulation glazing' it specified double glazing , the spec of the glazing was irrelevant to the license as long as 2 pieces of glass were there , Ironically , the pub window frames were/are glazed with 6.4 lam , so stretching a point they already were double glazed. we fitted 6mm tough secondarys with a 100mm space anyway , the techies thought it would be a good job. and everyone seems happy .
19. Had a bit of a party gig last night in Chester , The rythm guitar had a birthday so his mates came , the lead guitar is a teacher at a local school and loads of the teachers came , singers family came , drummers workmates all came , and a few of my mates came , so all in all it was real fun . I have to say though ,without the crowd we brought , the place would have been a sparce, we provided loads of posters but none were put up , they hadn't even bothered to chalk our name on the blackboard.
20.
Most of those limiters have been fitted long after the local authority have become involved because of complaints. They are often the only practicable way (from the venue owners point of view, not the band's) of keeping the noise level under control. It's cheaper to fit one of those than do a proper noise insulation job by installing double windows and extra lobbies. The local authorities can't instantly tell the venues to do a specific job such as "you must build double windows on the front wall" or "you must build an extra entrance lobby beyond the existing one". The owners always have the option to do what is called "alternative works that will achieve the same effect". The building work could cost thousands, a noise limiter probably costs a little over £1000 for a simple installation. Wiring the alarm up to openable doors or windows probably only costs a few hundred more.
I am not so sure about this , I recently did a contract installing secondary sound insulation glazing to a pub in Crewe, apparrantly the terms of the music license included double glazing, and the last inspection noted that the place was single glazed . I was half way through some getting all the sound info to present to the brewery when I realised there was no stipulation of noise levels to work on , the spec was purely 'double glazed' . It cost a lot more than £1K and the brewery were happy to sort it out.
21. ER20's here also , though strangely , we seem louder at rehearsal , so regularly use them then, but at gigs I don't seem to need them the same , maybe its an adrenalin thing .
22. A lot would come down to personality , I am not overly shy but I don't seek the thrill of soloing , I am happy to do my thing as best as I can supporting the band and creating the canvas for the fiddly technical stuff . I see the bass as generally an accompanyment instrument but that does not mean it will produce an easy route to competence .Anyone looking to take up an instrument on the basis of a percieved ease of learning is heading for a fall . That sounds like a very lazy approach , and seems to miss the point of picking up the instrument in the first place .
23. Our guitarist makes and tinkers with his own amps and ALWAYS uses an RCD . Mainly because me made him as he blew the main RCD at the community centre reheasal room one night , and the door to the consumer unit was locked. the flower arrangers at the other end of the building were not amused.
