1. Here's the thing, I've never actually sold anything before! So I need some pointers. I bought an eub about two years ago and have barely used it since, I didn't really need it, but I missed my double and it seemed like the next best thing. I have only used it to practise, it's never been gigged, has no marks on it, and is in perfect condition.I'm more than likely going to be uprooting and moving back to the U.K. next summer and I've decided to only take my Jazz with me when I do, so I probably need to sell the eub. The question; what would be a reasonable percentage to expect if I decided to sell it? I bought it for 100,000 (yen, not pounds) and I added on to that a bow which cost about 15000, I was thinking about somewhere in the region of 60-70,000 for the two, am I just kidding myself? Like I said, totally new to this, so I'm more than happy to be told that I'm totally deluded! haha
2. Either the site hates me or my work computer is playing amateur fascist again, could be both. I'll have a look when I get home to my nice shiny mac that does what it's told and doesn't crash or do anything random and silly... sigh. Anyway Nice one captain
3.
So...based on the information in this thread, is it reasonable for me to ask my Mother to let me off doing the washing up in future because it makes me worse at bass playing?
I tried that when I was about 16 or 17, no joy. Me: Y'know Mum, Jaco Pastorius never used to do the washing up because it softens the skin on you fingers. Both parents in Unison: Well you're not Jaco Pastorius are you? The. End.
4. hadn't even noticed they'd gone, but now I'm enraged!!!! (Can we get an 'enraged' please?)
5. Fantastic! Hope the gig is a great one! Also... 42!!!! You hero!!
6. I always liked Nick Fyffe's playing the most, he seems to get over looked a lot in these discussions, but to me the bass on Synkronized was some of the coolest and grooviest they've had. I really like a lot of their music, as does Mrs. Beard (!?), so they get a lot of airplay around here, but no matter how often I listen to them, for me there is nothing that can beat Black Capricorn Day for sheer groovy greatness! (I'm at work now, but I'll be checking out the heedbutt later!! haha)
7. I wouldn't go for the metronome to be honest, I hate them! I've never met a drummer who played like a metronome, and in my humble but honest opinion, they're all the better for it. Listening is the key, it's all well and good being able to hammer the piss out of your instrument, but if it doesn't sound like music, it's a waste of time. get some music that you like try playing over the top of it, I always liked Herbie Hancock's 'watermelon man' for working out new techniques, because it's about six years long and the chords never change, so you get loads of time to mess around. Anyway, slap is a lot of fun, so enjoy it!
8. Nice! Awesome playing, and I'm pretty sure she couldn't be any cuter if she tried!!
9. It looks like a softmint! Not necessarily a bad thing, but you wouldn't people to come up and start sucking on your instrument while you're on stage, now would you?
10. Mine was a Dean, wouldn't really say it was terrible, but I just couldn't get on with it. Not even sure why I bought it to be honest, never did particularly like it! Just a moment of pure stupidity I think!
11. That's mine, I had it made by bigdecal.com to go on my gold sparkly jazz.
12. Ye'd have to be fourteen shades of daft to spend that much on a bass I'm afraid. Especially a gold one. Very silly.
13.
Naverending arguments on Basschat - Completely Pointless.
Or... open and lively debates, the whole point of having a forum in the first place.
14. Anything with Stu Hamm, Billy Sheehan, or Jeff Berlin on the end of it. And Burnseseses.
15. That really does suck, I hope refunds and things are sorted out asap. If it was packed like that, they must have really kicked the hell out of it to crack it that badly! Wouldn't it be nice if they could show a bit of respect for people's stuff!
16. Noice. Lyrics are a bit balls though.
17. I like that a lot, I prefer the P but I like the arrangement better on the other one. I do like foderas but it's a bit too high in the mix for my likin'. Great track though, and some nice playing from Mr. Gwizdala.
18. Nice, be cool to see him with a real flesh and blood drumiser, see what he could come out with then. Particularly enjoyed the fact that his strap is off throughout the whole thing and he's obviously not fussed!
19. Watching that when I get home, Juan Nelson, contrary to popular [s]belief[/s] misconception, is in fact king of the world
20. I used to work with a guy who once played trombone with Ray Charles.
21. Someone get that tablature out of here before Bilbo sees it!!
22.
Right. How's that fuzz-wah workin out for you?
I like jazz basses for funky sounds, not sure about amps, by some coincidence I've always found myself using Laney amps, never had problems with them. They can sound suitably funky I reckon. Like other people have said, a stingray'll see you right too.
23. For me it's got to be Juan Nelson's solo on 'steal my kisses' by Ben Harper. Genius on toast.
