I used to be a total dick about pick playing when I first started, then my dad made me listen to Carles Benavente. A large slice of humble pie, washed down with a pint of my own words. I agree 100% with the 'whatever fits' thing. I like slap too, sorry. P.S. I mean slap with a purpose, not the 3 tap-dancing octopi thing.

I don't name my basses, I used to but then I forgot what I called them all. My car's called Otis though. Named after Mr. Redding. Somewhat Ironic really, because it sounds like a hairdrier!

I think it's just whatever you get most comfortable on. Funny innit!

I've always been a finger player, I started out on double, so the idea of playing with a pick came to me after I'd already been playing for a few years. (at that point I was too much of a snob to even try it out, and now wish I'd made the effort!) I second all the "stay away from the BP100 talk" I couldn't for the life of me get a decent tone out of it, I'm fairly sure my DB is made of papier mache, which may not have helped, but it just sounded really thin and reedy all the time! Not kind of nice! I always ended up using a mic through the P.A. absolute waste'o'money!

(particularly since, as the bass player, you're the only one with any sense anyway) The credibilty (not to mention self-respect) you will lose for writing songs you don't believe in, is worth more than anything you stand to gain.
