1. What does the DM look like? Is it like two Midgets on their side on top of each other? (The height of the Midget is the same as the width of the DM?) Are the speakers placed vertical, or diagonal? Very interested in this cab, from what I read on the website. ("4x10 killer" got me hooked) The suggested power is 200 to 1000W. How would a Gallien Krueger Backline 600, 300W @4ohm, drive this cab? Would this cab like more power? I'm just the average weekend warrior, so small to medium venues. (Mostly indoors) I'm up against either 30-50W 1x12" all-tube guitar combos or a JC-120 2x12" 120W solid state. (Or maybe in the future against 50 to 100W 4x12" guitar halfstacks.) From my experience, 300W (solid state) into a traditional (read: inefficient) 4x10" cab was enough, or two of those traditional 4x10" cabs if the venue was bigger. The same 300W into a more efficient cab like the DM would be a lot louder I assume. Thank you.
 2.
I gigged for a long time with a GK RB700 1x15 wedge combo. My ears loved it but my back didn't. I would go back to one in a heartbeat if they made lightweight versions.
How about the MB2-500?
 3. Yup, a fan here. I love the 1001RB-II. I'm currently holding my breath for the releas of the MB Fusion. I wonder what preamp tubes + GK growl + microhead will be like.
 4. I have one. I kinda love it. But don't expect it to be useful on bass. If digital synthesizer-like, high gain, computergame, sharp sounds are your thing, get an FZ-5. If you want a big fat wet low bassfuzz sound, look elsewhere. (Big John Hairy Balls for example, its Belgian but I'm not affiliated with Big John.) Pros of the FZ-5... it doesn't muddy up that quickly if you play fast riffs.
 5. PA type cabs for guitar... don't they need an extra poweramp for that? Or would the most common guitaramps be able to power that? I asked my guitarist (not much of a gearhead btw) what he would want that is not available out there. What he definately doesn't want is 4x12" cabinets. No matter how lightweight you can make them, it's the bulky size that is a drag. loose ideas we came up with: - ministacks, 1x12" straight cab and a 1x12" slant cab on top - extension cabs for combo amps - experimenting with 15" speakers for guitar - some sort of subs that can be powered by common guitar amps The vertical idea might also be nice. Would a 3x12" cab vertically in line work? And put your favourite guitar combo on top. Or 4x12" in line, with the top half slant maybe? (Well, that basicly would be your original idea, except all into one cab. ) 2x15" cab vertically, top half slant. Just our crazy ideas About amp modelling, I don't know how other users think about this... But from my experience and some guitarists I played with, using Line 6 PODs... Speaker modelling doesn't speak to me that much. I always turned it off, just amp modelling, into a poweramp or regular amp into regular bass cabs or guitar cabs. For gigging use I always considered PODs just as preamps, while the rest of the rig is real. I don't know how the majority of guitarist POD users feel about this though.
 6. Line 6 Bass POD XT hands down if it was me. The ME50B is not bad... but when it comes to the BOSS I prefer the guitar version, the ME-50. Just because of the types of effects I prefer, rotary, tremelo, univibe, all kinds of delay. The ME50B is what BOSS thinks bassists need most. Like synths and stuff. But hey, that's just me. The ME50B has its fans. I'm a fan of the guitar version for use on bass. Works just as well, just other effects at your disposal. The POD is in a different league. Except for drive and synth effects (which suck on almost any multiFX IME) all the effects on the Line 6 are very nice. Modulations, delays, reverbs... very nice sound quality. And the amp modelling. You got to be into that. But witchcraft or not, I dare any bassist to try the Sub Dub amp model on a POD and not be blown away. A POD will keep you up all night. Has a lot of possibilities. For real use of effects I think it's better than the BOSS ME-50B. I had all the PODs. I have a love/hate relationship with them. I love the concept, but each time I go back to seperate effects and real amps.
 7.
I'm looking for a nice grungey tone, Lemmyish perhaps. Can anyone suggest a nice reliable pedal that's relatively cheap?
I would also have to say Bad Monkey based on those 4 criteria. (Although Lemmy doesn't fit that good.) When I think Lemmyish... I'd rather think in the direction of a gated fuzz with mild gain maybe. Not that versatile. Oh, and lots of mids also. (Or get a guitar head, but who would dare to suggest that. I wouldn't. I wouldn't even come up with such an idea.)
 8. I love the MAG heads. Both the 300 and 600. I'm not a fan of the MAG cabs. They sound terrible IMO. The ABM is a completely different animal than the MAG. I don't consider the ABM a step up from the MAG.... they are just different amps. The ABM is a good SVT alternative IMO. Lots of growling goodness but with better response and better note definition. Granted, it doesn't quite reach the "holy grail" of breaking up like an all-tube SVT. I was considering an ABM and got to try out an ABM fullstack (2 4x10 cabs). It lacks in the treble department for me. Too much noise when you boost the treble. That was a turn-off for me. If you're not into treble boosting, like for example you don't slap or tap, just straight forward rock, then the ABM can be a faithful friend. If you are after a hifi-tone, look elsewhere. I think the MAG does a better job at sounding good full-range. But it's more sterile. My advice would be to stretch your budget toward a halfstack, seperate amphead and 4x10 cab. I tried it and compared it with the ABM 210 combo, and I found the 210 lacking when you want to go loud. I'm also not a fan of adding a 15" cab to a 10"s cab, but that is just me. An ABM 410 is a wonderful cab that will take you a long way. Better than to hassle with a 2x10 and a 1x15 cab, just my opinion.
 9.
Welcome, from a former (20 years ago) fretless Precision player!
Thank you.
 10.
Duly removed! That was a one-off sideways silver-cloth front Compact. The Vintage is the big 2x15" as seen on this thread! The website is seriously in need of new photos but recent weather conditions have not been exactly photogenic... Alex
Aha. And I browsed this thread and had a good look at the Vintage cabs. They look impressive. 1200W at 4ohm in a cab that weighs 25kg. WOW.... what are you guys using these for? Reminds me of arena power-line-ups. (best I go with some T'Midgets.....) But very tempting those Vintages.
 11.
The vintage is 2x15 Your welcome to try mine should you ever be in the blackpool vicinity!
? The picture on the website is a bit misleading: http://barefacedbass.com/vintage.htm
 12.
I tried the Hydrive 4x10 in the shop. Pretty much sucked. No bottom end.
I liked it. I can see that that cab isn't for everyone, heard a lot of other people complain about that too. For me it would get the job done... in the metal project I'm in now. But I understand for normal rock or anything else it's too thin at the bottom end. Maybe that's why I am interested in the Barefaced Midget. I'd probably go with the tweeter one, for that highend frequency response. 10kg for a cab... instead of my 42kg of Hartke I have now. hmmm. I saw a pic of a midget standing next too a 8x10 in this forum. Reminded me of a Mazda MX-5 next to a Dodge Charger.
 13.
Thanks for the comprehensive post René! Simple answer - I'm pretty certain T'Midget will do the job for you, as you have a properly powerful amp in the GK1001, so you can get every last dB out of its very potent 12" driver. If you find it's not loud enough then you can add a second Midget, or if you find you're always boosting your lows when using T'Midget (and you're wanting more loudness) then you can add a Compact which will give you more of the same plus some added bottom. This probably sounds ridiculous but according to my sums a single Midget should be able to produce as much high SPL bottom as the Hydrive 4x10". But how?! The Midget's driver is likely to have about twice as much excursion, so its Vd is about as much as three out of the four tens in the Hydrive. And then because the Hydrive is a sealed cab it doesn't have a port helping share the air movement between 40 and 100Hz. So if the Hydrive speakers are similar to Eminence's aluminium cone woofers the Midget would beat it on max SPL from 85Hz down to 40Hz. I really don't get why Hartke have gone with sealed cabs for their new models as that approach only works well with bass guitar for low SPL applications (like the Acoustic Image combos) or with very large cabs (8x10"/6x10"/4x12"/2x15"). Then again I guess it'll have saved them some cost on their neodymium purchases... Miaow. Alex P.S. I do think the 4.5XL was a great design, nice work with that one Larry!
Thank you Alex. That post helped me a lot. Thanks to the information on your website (which today I discovered has changed, very nice) I was about 70% sure that the midget would suit me. You just took me the other 30% of the way. I know nothing (very very little) about acoustic engineering but I'll take your word for it that the Midget is (almost) on par with the HyDrive 410. (Wich was basicly my question, hurray) I'm still not sure if I need a tweeter or not. Come to think of it, I never owned a cab with a tweeter and never felt I needed one. Although I am not treble shy. A question though: what kind of speakers are you using in the Midget? (Maybe a tip for your website if you choose to, more info on which speakers. Unless it's already there and I'm too stupid to find it.) I'm gonna move some stuff around here... and maybe in january or february I'll pull the trigger on one (probably two) of your cabs. (my gigging season will pick up in march) Yeah, Larry is awesome. I'm not going to turn my back on Hartke so soon. I don't want to brag or anything, but most likely I will end up with a HyDrive and LH1000 also, my budget isn't that tight. My basses seperately cost a lot more then the proposed rigs. And I have more than one bass, why should I be limited to one rig. There is Barefaced in my future. I love the looks (especially the font of Barefaced on the front of the cabs), lots of positive experiences, reasonable price. mildmanofrock, I read that thread. Seems pure awesomeness your Big One. But I think a Midget would be more suited for me. edit: forgot to add. For the tweeter or not ponderings: my treble fetish clashed before with the guitarist and the keyboardplayer. :/
 14.
I see Fender's QC hasn't improved
LOL No, sometimes their customers are just plain weird. I don't like a P/J pickup configuration. I don't need the J at the bridge. "You could just... not use it." - Yes I know, but my OCD said take it off, if you don't use it it doesn't need to be there. Although lately I've been considering to put this bass back in it's original state. Because stock the Tony Franklin is a more than good enough instrument. (IMO)
 15.
Loving that fretless Fender and welcome
Thank you. Yes... that Fender is still my main bass. (I got the Roscoe afterwards) Although the Roscoe is very awesome and technicly better. Hard to explain. I alternate between the two of them.
That Roscoe's lovely. I've been the happy owner of a fretted LG3000 I got from Mark at Bass Direct for a couple of months now. They're simply fantastic basses. Your fretless looks no different. What's the top wood btw?
That's burled maple. That's no top btw, then entire body is solid maple. Roscoe is amazing, their instruments and their customer service. If I order a Roscoe in the future, it will be cedar body with maple top. The most fantastic thing about my Roscoe (in my opinion) is the diamondwood fingerboard. It really is nice to play.
