Bit cheesy but I used to love this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUaF1mHwunM
Barrie i judge "cheesyness" on how old you are...i think were within the cheesy barrier...tis not cheesy just funky and melodic.. the chorus reminds me of light of the world...
Er...B5, did you mean to put the Crown Heights link twice? If so, Vic Wooten must've been about 10 years old when he played for them!
Ha! what a dick...edit done..
Continuing one of the best threads on Basschat, here's a funky groove for Saturday afternoon. Featuring M King on bass and the ridiculously tight Charlie Morgan on drums (...well, he never bought me a drink, anyway!! ) I always liked how the chord sequence works in this one too. Nik Kershaw - Easy
S5 for one..this is awsome i havent heard this for ages..Mark Kings playing is just spell bounding!!! .for two check Crown Heights Affair.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4ly7B2X5f8...t=1&index=7 for me this is the best Victor Wooten jam session. with Larry Bright..this is the best finger style Wooten ive ever seen..love the fact that he doest slap too much...hes got his groove down like knowone...i think this belongs in this thread big time... i watch this and laugh out loud at Vics sublime natural groove....amazing man...
OK First and foremost I believe that Tribes Vibes & Scribes is their best album closely followed by 100 degrees and Rising and then Positivity. I have been listening to their latest album Transatantic RPM and that sounds pretty good too almost back to their best. In a similar vein Citrus Sun are good along with JTQ particularly the album "In The Hand of the Inevitable", Raw Stylus and some Galliano are along the same lines. It's all good music though - enjoy!
What GF said... also check out an album called Four Corners by "Inner Shade"..its one of Blueys side projects...awsome RHT playing on it
-
yeah for sure its natural to emulate your fav bassists...but i think its much more important to do your own thing...ive learnt loads of stuff and ideas from various bassists, songs etc....alot of stuff ive learnt also comes from listening to singers, horn players etc.. i have favorite bass players, but i dont want to sound like anyone but me...
He inspired a hell of a lot of people to start playing bass, I can guarantee that much, loads more than the likes of RHT, Julian Crampton etc have inspired. And that can never be a bad thing right?
No not at all..but it depends if they all wanted to sound like MK..at at the time that did happen..im old enough to remember...but no its a great thing..

i cant see what s ground breaking about L42...what has he done that is new? hes been doing the (great) same thing for 30 years... Julian, Lawrence, Randy are session musicians, they can play anything. Why do you think im dissmissing him????I dont think you understand what im saying..Im not saying hes an average player in his own right...but among a world of bassists and i mean hundreds of great bassists, i dont think hes special....like i said UNIQUE, but no better.. IMO for example, Victor Wooten is special because hes breaking new ground, trying different things there are lots of bassists as good as MK, but because they werent in L42 there not heard of.. by the way i have lots of L42 and was listening to them when they first arrived on the scene and do love them..
That's subjective talk. Could she play 5 string down-tuned metal with the same attitude and feel as a seasoned metaller ? I wonder? I think he's a pretty innovative bass player and for his time was unique. I'm not a fan of Level 42 to be honest but credit where credit is due. He inspired a thousand and one bass players to pick up a bass and play like him. That and the fact he sings and plays some very complex basslines only adds to his credibility. How you can say he's nothing special is just plain old dumb imo. Along with John Entwistle I'd put Mark King down as among the most influential bass players this country has produced.
For a start shes been playing for 7 years...7 years and shes as good as she is... your also replying to my post out of context...i didnt say he wasnt innovative..i said versatile...this is prob because of his commercial interests in what has made him famous in the first place... i actually said, he is nothing special in a world of bassist's...unique for a certain sound and style yes...Im not for a second bashing Mark King, hes a fantastic bassist, but there is so much out there...especially in the UK...Lawrence Cottle, Julian Crampton, Randy Taylor.... When you say Mark King inspired a thousand and one players to pick up the bass and play like him, is for me the problem...
Mark King is the boy, I couldn't and wouldn't argue otherwise. I'm the first to defend virtuoso players, the reason why Tal pops up here is because she is not a virtuoso and yet inexplicably gets gigs that are top level. I expect to see a incredible bassists alongside Chick Corea, for instance - imagine going to see Chick and expecting Garrison, Wooten, Feraud etc etc and getting Tal plodding along instead. Her playing is IMO far below par for the people she plays with and it is to the detriment of the music as a whole! It'd be like going to see the John Mclaughlin trio in the late 80's and finding Adam Clayton standing in for Kai Eckhardt!
How can you possible know what Tal is capable of??.... Shes young, and could no doubt could blow most away on here...she deserves a lot more respect that what you are giving her... Tal certainly does not plod along???? what were you thinking when you wrote that??..Or maybe you think your qualified enough to out groove her...i doubt it...Do you actually think Jeff Beck, Chick Corea, are that un professional, to hire some one they didnt think was up to the job?? they hired her because shes a great bassist... your comments were silly at best... oh and stop bigging up friggin Mark King....we all know hes a great bassist but so what? hes nothing special among a world of IMHO more versatile bassists..

I do think the original pups a little fuller sounding but i guess the trade off in hum/buzz free is worth it....and they do sound great..

QUOTE>>Amazing show, they almost outclassed Stevie IMO......

Im not a big fan of Alembics.i just dont like the small bodied MK and SK basses.or small bodied basses in general...BUT...this bass for me looks so killer...i just cant get over the price...For those who dont know its an Alembic Rogue..there is a 4 string on the Bassworld site for £6000.. its been my dream bass for as long as i remember..it is very possible that i will never be able to afford one..i just love the shape of it, with that long top horn... am i wrong in saying Alembics are very hifi sounding? anyone played a rogue.. some pics of said bass http://www.americanguitarsuk.com/bassshop/alembicB.php

i dont think i have ever seen a guy play the bass like this guy can...hes a magician...IMO there is nothing that is not good about Sharay's playing...solid sh*t with fills that just take ur breath away...the more i hear this guy play the more i think he is the best in the pocket player in the world...
