1. Ok you deserve everything you get, if you ever do this nonsense on stage. but use strap locks. Don't let this happen to you.!!
2.
Try recording yourself playing to a drum track or metronome, even if its using something basic like a phone voice recording app, that will show up errors that you might not be concious of while actually playing. To some extent though consistent timing requires a certain amount of raw hours on fingerboard so be patient.
This. Its easy to get complacent and not hear where your timing might be off. its easy to do when your concentrating on the physical aspects of playing. I went to art school for 4 years, used to draw paint etc, and technically, the best lesson i learned was to look at what you have drawn/painted in a mirror. Its a great way to refresh what you have been looking at for so long. Ok its not the best example/explanation, but i think its similar to listening to yourself recorded. You see/hear where you might be going wrong. A fresh perspective is what I'm getting at. it really does work. Well thats my experience.
3. This is a floor filler i used to play with an old band. Its the long intro that teases them. Fabulous record.! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KuavOt7RwCA
4. Love the Cloudburst. But those cats paw inlays are just great.!
5. Love it. Love his slap playing. He never over plays. great record
6.
No, all of the Outrun music was written by a chap called Yu Suzuki who was part of the Sega house band (seriously) I reckon he was a Stevie fan though - the track from 8.30 has a Stevie pop/fusion quality, albeit trapped in a Spectrum...
good god, the musical stuff you guys know.!!!??
7. my word. PM'd
8.
actually Marcus uses his own engineer not the festivals as does Tony Momrelle they don't rehearse in the space before the gig (its not practical in reality they don't even get a soundcheck in a festival situation) to be honest the artists on stage have absolutely no control over the mix thats why they bring their own engineers with them people they trust to mix the gig well rather than the in house engineer who's seen a lot of different artists over a few days
Like i said WTF do i know I'm just a bass player
9. Well to change the tempo and feel somewhat, this is just so very great. i love the lyrics " we can stroll the mezzanine, buy some dirty magazines" only Prince could/would sing that. imo just a fantastic piece of music. amazing guitar playing.. his harmonies sung by just him are amazing. he was way out there, a genius.. listen to what he left us. 10.
one of my best friends and colleagues at my venue doing FOH for Tony Momrelle at Cheltnam be interested to know your thoughts on the mix
I thought Julians bass could have been more out punchy, but I'm bias. but its such a huge tent. me and my sister were sat off to there right. trying to pin down certain acoustics in that size a venue, is like trying to find a hamster in woodnorton. apart from that, the engineers are so used to mixing for great artists. Last year was Marcus Miller. he wouldn't put up with a bad mix imo. obviously rehearsals in that space, he would have picked up on any bad sounds. WTF do i know about room acoustics. not a lot. but my ears tell me there is too much air for the noise to flow around.
11. Its the first time i have. Ive got to be honest I'm a frustrated bass player, Partly because of where i live. The band i just turned down plays covers of Oasis etc, it couldn't be further from what i like to play. What is up with this country.? No cosmopolitan ways, in boring country towns.?!!! I think its just the inherent music culture in small gloucestershire towns. Me and the wife getting the f*** out of here.
12. Good lord this is funky. Maceo Parker on sax
13.
None of his albums - I've found a lot of his songs are a bit meh (and I say that as a Prince fan). His live jams are what do it for me so I've only got DVDs. Live at the Aladdin is the best, shortly followed by Y2K (let down by the cringeworthy sermon half way through). Sign of the Times DVD is (ironically) a sign of it's time - its a bit self conscious and doesn't show Prince's band leading talents to the same degree as the other two.
Live at Alladdin is just quite something.
14.
If you look on Youtube there are quite a few videos of him playing 'normally'. There's a nice one here with the WDR big band. I'm not a Stevie Wonder fan, but this is quite a cool arrangement.
Now thats what i like. that cements to me what a great musician he is. I love Falsetto but i would like to hear( which I'm getting snippets of), him sing lower in the range. but yep. he's great. what an accomplished jazz pianist he is.

16. Went to see the Brand New Heavies, Rita Satch and Tony Momrelle. Easily by a mile the best i saw was Tony Momrelle. Its possibly one of the best people/bands I've ever seen live. Quite astounding. the legend Julian Crampton was on bass. Tony Remy on guitar. I was sat with my sister in the Big Top and our mouths were agape when he sang on his own. sorry i couldn't find any footage of last night. Same band though. Anyone notice Paul Turner in the front at 2.12 he he. Ive to to say Julian Crampton is such a fantastic bass player.
17. Well i can't argue with that. His musical ability isn't in doubt, i just don't like the way he's put the music together. But if Micheal League likes him who am i to talk sh*t.
18. Hes excellent, but i can't help thinking he's not really thinking about the song, but more of his technical ability as a showcase.. He ruined PYT imo. Its just empty.
19. Yep. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4oCbEFWb10
20. so glad to see you back brother. xx
21.
Was this tune one of the radio options on Outrun?
WTF.?
22.
Thank you! Is Stevie playing that bassline on a synth?
yes it is.
23. The greatest UK Hip Hop. its just so very very good.…you gotta dig that drumming and her rapping…..
24.
That is one unstoppable groove!
as soon as i heard this i knew it was gonna be a good groove. Thanks brother..
