1. I'm wanting to put a high gloss on a bass. I have spoken to a guy who sprays cars.Snow Boards, etc. He said he could do it. He's a master at doing this type of stuff. BUT.I'm aware the instrument has a lot of pores and grain in it so many coats of gloss will need to be aplied. Do you think it's worth going to a guitar specific sprayer.? He wants £130 to do the body and headstock. Will a specific guitar sprayer cost more.?
2. You know the feeling that you have a tone in your head but you don't know how to get it. The bartolinis are great but I'm missing that preamp that gives me the funky growl. I guess I'm talking Marcus Ish but more of a gospel tone.
3. Im no tech person but its really quite easy to install new pickups. Just a good soldering iron and a bit of common sense. oh and you tube . This bass was originally a great bass, when it comes down to construction. Had Delano single coils, which weren't my favourite. Now it is just superb. Its articulate with the Delano pre, with a fantastic low end from the Bart's. I will be changing out the Delano. its way to clean for me. Im thinking of maybe a Bartolini 3 band. Or an East. I don't particularly want a Marcus tone as I think a lot of it comes from the 70's spacing anyways, and this bass hasn't got that. I just want a fat, punchy, growly tone. Ok that sounds like a Marcus tone. he he. Im half way there with the Barts and the DR fat beams. I just need a different preamp Its fabulous to play. The neck reminds me of the Lakland 5502. The instrument is light which I dig. All in all these instruments are out there. Its not my favourite jazz bass ever. That goes to the Sei, but its pretty close, seeing as the Sei is over twice the price new. This is a keeper, just fabulous instruments are these Maruszczyk's
4. The neck on these are just the best ever of any jazz bass every made. No doubt.
5. I wonder if they changed the windings at some point.?
6. As soon as you plug your lead into an active bass the preamp is getting a signal. Even if it's not plugged into the amp. I unplug and a cheap battery will last me 2 months depending how much I practice. Leaving a lead in will kill a 9 volt in under a week.
7. There are tonnes of backing tracks with certain instruments muted on youtube.
8. I think Aguilar really go with Aguilar. As they should. They are designed to work together. The AG 4J/5J 70's are really nice pickups.
9. What are the pickups/ preamp.?
10. It's the arrangements, it's the awsome bass playing. The horns are just superb. If there is any band that do modern jazz funk well its Bluey and the musicians around him. Absolutely smokin track. https://youtu.be/QSRr7_jtNvo
11. This is why it's good to buy second hand. These Yamahas are superb.
12.
I never subscribed to the Bartilini = dark logic. One of those internet trends spoken by people that have no experience probably.
I'm not sure where it came from. Also I hear that Bartolinis have low output. Not true. These pickups are huge.imo the best pickups in the world. Everyone has different ears of course. I have the full Delano preamp and pickups package for sale by the way. He he.
13. I have a set of Delano single coil 5 string Jazz bass pickups for sale. They are the JC5AL pups. £180 at Bass Direct. Now £80 !!!! This is £100 off the new price and they are mint. You will struggle to get these pups any where for this price Ps excuse the sale trade value. Can't seem to get rid of it. If these don't go soon i will ebay them. Get a bargain while you can.
14. As some may know I have just put some Bartolini 59j pups in my Elwood 5 string Jazz . I have got to say these pickups are smokin.!! I had a set in the Sei Jazz bass years ago but that was a very different bass. Sounded amazing, in other jazz basses I've had Dmarzio, Sadowsky, Lindy,s, Lane,s. The myth is that Bart original jazz bass (not the classic bass series) pickups have big lows and prominant low mid's, but not alot of high end. I'm not a fan of super bright pickups, so the reasoning behind these. It just isn't true. They do everything incredibly well. I'm totally blown away by them. Going straight into an Aguilar AG500 and an Aguilar 212, . The thing is they have there high end but the high end is super class. No brittleness, which I hate. They are super smooth. I was debating whether to change out the Delano 2 band but now I'm not sure I need to feed the pickups anything else. I can understand why so many high end bass Luthier use Bartolini. A few pics of my install. The only way I can explain these pickups is. Lindy Fralins dipped in the world's most expensive cream. The Delano single coils are great by the way. They will be on sale.
15. Great to see Stuart Zender on bass duties with Incognito. Francis Hylton on keys. https://youtu.be/rU3EOUE-M1U
16. Thankyou Steve.!!!!!
17. I'm putting some new pickups in the bass. But I'm a little confused. The Delano pups have black and white wires. The Bartolini wires are a covered wire in a clear sleeve and a braided non covered wire. Anyone know which is which. I have attached some pics. Thanks for any info.this is putting my soldering skills to shame.!!!
18. My funk brother Mr Bacanin, it's always a pleasure to share great music.
19. Wow. Don't see many F Clef,s on BC. Love that birds eye with the blocks.
20. They never let me down.Always a sneaky unreleased in the UK track. Fantastic bass playing. Fantastic music. https://youtu.be/XdtZPshFhmc
21. Ha ha I've been that cat many times. I've even been knocking on next door because I could have sworn I heard a delivery truck come but delivered to the wrong house.
