1. No probs. Post up some pix when u get back to whet the appetites!
2. I am personally loving the corned-beef tin koto-thingy. Didn't see the revox in action.....
3. Welcome to the forum, bassplayer50000! Guys, I viewed the 4001CS last night and it is in top condition bar the small chemical leach marks mentioned. Most Rick owners are aware of the nature of the CV finish that allows such marking. As a prior owner of a CS, I can attest that vermillion (aka 'padauk') 'board on this bass is striking in its contrast to the cream of the body. An absolute peach!! Good luck with the sales, Simon!
4. So, how did the viewing go?
5.
Just don't get me started on Ferry and that son of his.......
Yep, know how you feel!
6. I've done it once with nitro-mors then cleaned the body with white spirit and removed the rest by hand-sanding after drying. I'd be very wary of using a heat gun in case you cause burn-through into the wood.
7. Bridge alignment, to me, looks ok but I'd be askign what the seller means by 'carefully rebuilt'. It looks a very clean guitar for a '76 model. Have you dated it? You might also ask to see the control cavity and the front pup cavity and cable rout. Plus, if it is a 4001, you must ask to see the truss-rod ends: if there are two (as there should be) and they're bending downwards, the truss-rods are probably buggered.
8. I haven't got a Scooby but whatever it is it looks like a Frankenbass, Always thought he used Modulus during his ST tenure.
9.
I had one of these when they first came out. Sound Control were doing them for £200 at the time. There were Precisions and Jazzes with maple or rosewood fretboards - I had one like the OP has bought Lovely basses - ended up swapping it for a Peavey 4x10" which seems silly now I think about it
That's right. They seemingly weren't selling too well to dealers but Sound Control bought what Arbiter had left and sold the whole range off at £199. Shoulda bought one then.
10. This was a range that Fender Japan did circa 1995. You don't see them pop up often but I would love to get ahold of one of the Jazzes.
11. Someone's bid £50 on it. Wow. Looks like a skip-find.
12.
It's nowt Mark D Phillips couldn't "fix"
Word!
13. 5-pin DIN for playing through an old record player, I'll bet. I am sure I heard of people doing with guitars when I was a kid!
14. The VVTT puts a greater load on the pickups plus the original pots values were 250/250, not 250/500, though that circuit was discontinued in the early days of the Jazz. As above, loads of stuff on Talkbass about this. FWIW most modern stackers just have the caps in place rather than the resistors and this helps with the output signal. I have a Jazz with 250/250 plus the caps and resisitors and it is a bit quieter but still very funky.
15. I'd pay good coin to see his workbench, or what passes for it.
16. That sounds to me like the pre-amp is being bypassed completely. Are any of the EQ controls doing anything? Check your battery connection first: if that's not being engaged then the pre-amp won't work.
17. Here ya go.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8D9Z2xJWEA
18. A must-have is the Trio of Doom cd. Jaco with John McLaughlin and Tony Williams, recorded in Havana in 1979. It's worth it for the live version of Continuum alone!
19.
Just had a look at that, very rare bass, but the '60 is 10,000 bucks more!! I'll take the pair!
Sorry, all those zeros made me dyslexic!
20. Nope! I loved the bit about 'improving wires'!
21. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Aria-STB-J-bass-with-full-set-up-by-me-/190726578983?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2c6830a327 Discuss!
22.
Ridiculous price, you could get a '57 4000 for far less if it's a rare Ric you want.
He's selling a '60 4000 for the same price!
23. Stupid price, conjured up by the fact that JH is on the record for stating that the 4002 will never be made again. Then there's the story of the bunch of 4002 body wings lying somewhere in the RIC factory...........
24. Ebony is pretty hard and you probably not damage the board as much as you would if it were rosewood. Why not try half-rounds/ground-wounds, such as Status Hotwires? FWIW, I run flats on some of my fretless Jazzes and rounds or groundwounds on others. If you do go the ground-wound route you may have to get the board planed after a while but that could take years before that would need to be done but it depends on how much you gig, I'd guess.
25. What's the depth of the circuit board? Can seem to find such info in the pdf for the unit.
