1. I get sore fingers after playing gigs. Less so, but still, after rehearsals. Even with flatwounds. I don't mind though. Nowhere near as bad as it once was back in the day. Probably because my technique has improved, I use louder amps and I don't rag my fingers quite as silly
2. Yes, I'd go and knock on his door. I'd take a mate with me too as an observer.
Do I report it as stolen?
Who would you report it too? The cops will have nothing to do with it. He didn't steal it. Have you got a receipt? If you have you could threaten him with legal action. If not, you're pretty screwed.
3. Her doctor says her condition is satisfactory... Revert to 1978... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMvI5OX6nUw
4. I've bought a few off eBay... And a few off a local amp tech I know. I think Mr Foxen might have some knocking about.
5. I'm a big fan of Mullards. Things just sound better with them in. Or they don't. The things that don't, don't sound any different no matter what you put in em. The things that sound different with different valves in always sound best with Mullards in to me. They don't sound of anything in particular, but they let stuff sound at its best. ie, the tone and gain controls work better. There's more detail to signal. Good nick valves (rather than NOS) are where it's at for me. You can always sell them for the same price. Especially ECC83s and EEC82s. They last.
6. I don't like either of them. The 1st is just odd and clumsy. The second, as has been said, would sound better (to me) played on a guitar.
7.
Yes, I say Loo Thee Err, too. My sis, whose gramma and spelling is impeccable, reckons as it is derived from French it should be 'a la Francais' and Loo Tee Aye, which seems rather daft to me.
Balles.
8. What makes you frustrated as person? For me, it's not being able to drink myself stupid, but still touch people... no hang on, forget the last bit, it's about being able to be myself... no, no, hang on... play the bass? hmmm. I can do that sometimes... not now... but sometimes.. anyway... zzzzzzzzzzzzz.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..............
9.
What makes you doubt your capacity to delight yourself, and touch other people?
I'm backing out of this discussion slowly...
10.
Near the Chevin.
Baht 'at.
11. Chevin power amps are made in Yorkshire. Near Chevin. Believe it or not.
12. Hmmm. I much prefer the current US Standard pickup. I had some of those once and found them a little bit thin and brittle sounding. Nice for clank. I wouldn't be paying £200 extra for them to be factory fitted anyway. They're only about £60-£70 a set. edit : didn't see the hardcase or the bridge. I really like the migh mass bridge. Best bridge I've used.
13. Are the "Custom Shop" 60s pickups the same as these? Part Number is : 099-2046-000
14. I don't think about it, but if I stopped dead in my tracks I could name what note I'm playing pretty quickly if not instantly. Apart from the is it a B flat / A sharp? instances where I probably haven't bothered to work out which key I'm in. I play a lot of chromatic runs and never transpose anything, don't sight read either so I tend not to bother. Generally though, I could shout out what note I'm playing as I play it. If I wanted to. And played slow enough I'm not bad at recognising notes I hear either. Playing them makes that much easier.
15.
All other things being equal that's possibly (IMHO) a better bass than the Highway but there's no substitute for trying them out.
I agree.
16.
Just to add to the confusion i thought that highway 1 basses were mexican parts assembled in America. Probably by Mexicans !
Correct, but with a US standard pickup and a different finish. To confuse matters, there's a version with a Badass II and different wiring. But essentially they're MIM basses assembled in the US. Not that there's anything wrong with that. My MIM P Special is the same era and is great. Well machined and good fit and finish. No different from a US (bar the tuners and the part number of the neck).
17. The Highway Ones are US Assembled, made from the same parts as MIMs (same necks, same bodies, same tuners), with a thin satin nitro finish and MIA standard pup. There's two versions, one with a Badass II (the other has the MIM BBOT). I can't remember, but seem to recall one has a Greasebucket, the other didn't (I think). If you dig around on the Fender website you should be able to find the parts lists. I played a few when they were in the shops and nearly bought a new one... I've never bought a new bass. They were all nice enough.
18. Yeah, they're japanese. There's also Fender versions. http://uniqueguitar.blogspot.co.uk/2010/08/fender-katana.html However, that blog ignores the Japanese Squier versions like mine.
19. Not in Notts. In Stoke. I lent a mate some money and ended up with his guitar. If it was mine I'd have sold it, but feel like It's still his even though I've not seen the bugger for nearly 20 years. I've tried looking for him in the usual places but he seems to have succesfully avoided the 21st century.
20. I have a six string version... I never play it. But looking at it fills me with a sense of wonder...
21.
Have to admit, if the Ampeg tone is the tone being looked for, Fender bass amps are worth checking out.
Ridiculous isn't it? But yeah, I've found the best "Ampeg tone" I've found is my Alembic F1X (Fender Showman circuit) with my Ampeg SVP through the effects loop. It growls, but it's rock solid. I find the SVP on it's own a little thin in comparison.
22. There is two distinct "Ampeg" tone varieties. The B15 tones and the SVT tones. The solid state combos will either do B15 (like the Rocketbass series) or do a clean SVT. But not really both (at least the ones I've played / owned). The one exception I've found is the BA500 which sounds more valve SVT (there's some crunch at least). I'm not really a fan of the other BAs, though I've not tried the HP. I do like the B3 series. They're a lot cleaner sounding than the BAs but somehow manage to sound less bland. Not quite so common though and older. Then there's those older SVT SS combos that I know nothing about at all.
23. Just discovered this miracle of modern technolgy... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hJSyPW4BFgo Then as though meant to be, also discovered it's only £10.99 until the 20th.
