1. I don't think it's an active/passive switch - you can disable the EQ but it's still running off the battery. Beautiful bass, massively under-rated. My fave bass at the LBGS.
 2. I'm endlessly fascinated by these basses. Something I'm not sure of re: the neck - what is a rolled fingerboard, and how does it differ to slab-cut?
 3.
I watched The Who - Live at the IoW Festival (1970?) on You Tube at the weekend. It's an amazing gig and well worth a hour and 20 mins of your time. What I did notice and have noticed in the past from watching his playing is his unique technique. Hi picking fingers flying everywhere. How does he play so well and quickly ? They guys a legend!
I'm surprised you noticed, JE has about 20 seconds of screen time in the whole thing! Incredible concert though.
 4.
So anyway, what about Rob Jones and his Ric 4003?
He had to sell his waistcoat and shirt to afford that Rick...
 5.
i ll have the strings for £40 if your willing..
Someone else already has first dibs on the strings I'm afraid! But at the moment they're for sale with the bass only.
 6. Bargain!
 7.
Is there any chance you'd deliver if I cover postage ?
PMd.
 8.
What a lovely looking bass
'Tis isn't it.
 9. What does the color switch do?
 10. Yeah, I had to get the La Bellas from the US too. Had to wait ages too, everywhere was sold out it seemed!
 11. Gorgeous collection. The red one on the left looks like it's starting to morph into a Soundgear.
 12. Do you have any old copies of Bassist?
 13. Just get some decent strings on it first!
 14.
Would a trade for a Sterling By Musicman SUB V interest you (Black & Maple). G.
Not really into fivers I'm afraid. Cheers for the offer though.
 15. Purchased brand new a couple of months ago, never gigged or taken out of the house so in pristine condition. Comes with original box (slightly dented) and all paraphernalia. It's a very versatile pedal with lots of weird and wonderful sounds, courtesy of 7 ( I think) distinct settings. I'm after £30 inc. shipping to mainland UK. Collection welcome too, of course - I'm in Dartford. 16. For sale - my Squier VM Bass VI. This bass is in superb condition, not a mark or ding to be seen anywhere. Of course the bass still has the vibrato arm but I forgot to put it in for the pics. The bass sounds wonderful, a distinctive, throaty tone. And far bassier than you would expect - make no mistake, this is definitely a bass! If it doesn't sell I won't mind as it really is smashing. It's still wearing the original factory strings which in all honesty aren't really doing the instrument justice. They are far too light. I have just purchased a set of very expensive La Bella flats in a far more suitable gauge. I haven't put them on but if you want them I could throw them in for an extra £40. NOW SOLD.
 17. Evening! For sale or trade - my Squier VM fretless Jazz in excellent condition - all stock, only things to mention are a couple of very light dings to the front of the upper horn (see pic below but not captured very well)and the inevitable marks to the fretboard from the round strings - this seems to be part of the course with these basses but it's more of a visual thing than anything else - feel and tone is not affected. It's a beautiful bass but I can't see myself using it in my band so it should probably push off before I get too attached... I don't have any specific trades in mind but I'm open to anything! I'm not in a great hurry to move this one on so it's collection from Dartford / SE London only at the moment, or could meet / deliver around the M25 area. 18.
Comparing Alembic to other other custom bass builders such as Sei or Shuker is a complete red herring , an irrelevance , not least of all because both of those builders produce basses that use bought -in packages of electronics and hardware. Also , significantly, neither of those builders make basses with the kind of iconic design and unique personality that Alembics have in spades. Sei, Shuker and whole host of other manufacturers will make make you a fancy bass, but none of them will substitute for a proper Alembic.
This. Personality and character. Every Alembic I've played or heard, regardless of model or electronics, sounds like an Alembic. This to me is what sets them apart from most other 'over priced' custom builders I can think of (with the possible exception of Wal). If that particular character isn't your thing, they probably will seem ludicrously extravagant. Like Foderas - I really don't get them at all!
 19. My soul weeps with the realisation that I can't possibly afford this.
 20.
I spoke briefly with Stan when I was working at a Jazzfest. I had been expecting lots of Alembic action but was in awe of his double bass playing and told him so. "Thanks man", he said and was gone.
I saw him at the Jazz Café a few years ago - as marvellous as his Alembic stuff was, his double bass solo just blew my mind. He said in a BP interview a few years ago that he intended to give up playing the electric when he 'got old', luckily it seems like he's changed his mind.
 21.
But his back catalogue contains some absolute dross too (IMO of course!)
Pretty much. Mostly from the 80s, unsurprisingly! Although his hip-hop dalliances in the 90s are also pretty painful. Still, with albums like Journey to Love, we can't complain.
