Same course as me then! Though I went some 18-19 years ago. Maxwell Murder is a very challenging piece to play... if she's capable of playing that then she's already well ahead of the pack! Going slightly off-piste has its risks, but if you can play something new, different or in a style that they've rarely come across then you'll be afforded more room for error! Also, if you've not been yet, the grounds of Bath Spa University are absolutely fantastic, the lake, the castle ruins, the rare trees and foliage. Plus Bath is a great city. My halls were 'Hiscocks', small rooms but it did the job. Fingers crossed she'll get it. Joe Bennent, who was course leader in my time, but I believe is now Professor of Popular Music, is a really good guy too. He had a killer 1960 something Paisley strat he brought out a few times.

I did a similar audition prior to getting accepted into Bath Spa Uni YEARS ago. I played Stu Hamm's tap rendition of Moonligh Sonata by Beethoven. Always good to do something that makes you stand out! Best of luck to her, I'm sure she'll nail it. 👍

Best purchase... USA Music Man 6 String BFR Bongo. Absolutely stunning instrument in every way. Worst purchase... SKY Glass. Absolutely shocking. SKY itself is fine, but their TVs are woeful. Went back within 2 weeks. Appreciate that's not bass gear, but it needed saying!

I did message the guy on eBay just to ask him who the 'Pro Players' and 'Collectors' were that said this bass was a great investment, and to ask why they'd not snapped it up themselves. He did respond, but with absolutely no real answer to my question, as expected! What did make me chuckle is that he actually signed off with 'Master Bassist' 🤣 ...Master Bator maybe.

Ridiculous. The whole ad seems designed to confuse someone into thinking this is more that what it is. $2000 might be an achievable number, so he's about $60,000 North of reality in his asking price.

I'm pretty sure the picture of the Hofner on the workbench is in fact Bass Direct. Might be worth putting in the radar of the chaps at BD.

From personal experience, I'd swerve anything made by Jon. The bass I eventually got from him (after having to resort to sending him a Letter Before Action) was not playable, the bridge was fixed and the intonation was way off - not a useable bass. The build quality was passable, but quite amateur in comparison to the likes of ACG, Shuker, Overwater etc. Horses for courses and such, but I'd not go near one of his instruments again for numerous reasons.

The only thing with those kind of strap locks is that you can't easily switch straps/basses. They're great for a perfectly useful, cheap solution. Personally for me, I like to easily be able to switch straps between basses, so the Dunlop/Schaller option works best. Dunlops win out over Schallers for me, they just feel more secure!

Great basses these. I've had a few over the years - they compete with basses of a much higher price point. Good score sir! Enjoy. 😁

A second hand bass, something that represents the best back for buck I can find in the classifieds! Play it for a while, maybe keep it, or maybe trade it on for something else and keep up a perpetual cycle of trading on and trying new things!

Never had a Dunlop fail in 20 years of using them on 20+ instruments. Were yours legitimate ones as there's plenty of faux ones, as there are Schallers!
