If you design your own Signature 15 string Bass???
binky_bass replied to evrenyilmaz's topic in General Discussion
15 strings, if running tuning at standard intervals, is pointless. I had a 13 string bass made for me some years ago, the thickest string was a G#00 that resonated at 18hz, so right at the very very lowest range of human hearing. The highest fret of the sharpest string was right at the top end of human hearing. It also had a near unplayable fanned scale of 41" to 24" to make the strings actually function correctly. It was a bit of an experiment, and while it technically worked, going beyond 13 string is a pointless exercise unless you're using alternative tuning. Binky, my 10 string bass, is however right at the sweet spot of utterly ridiculous, completely awesome and totally useable! For those that haven't seen it, this is Binky (and my 8 string Conklin!) -
USA Conklin basses... Unbelievable things, exceptionally rare on the second hand market for very good reason. Bee Basses... for the same reason as the above!

How far have you travelled to pick up a Bass?

I might 'forget' the occasional comma in a sentence, at least I've not forgotten my wallet and jacket and had to do a second 200 mile journey! -
Me not no have thyme two cheque mye spelleng. Seems that you do though, so I'll leave it to you to continue to check for me!

If you're anywhere near local to Essex, come to mine for a jam. I love a filthy riff and making stuff up on the spot - sometimes it's absolute crap, other times it turns into a giant beast of a song! I've got plenty of amps, basses, guitars, drums, etc. so there's plenty of room to stretch and have a good old fashioned noise making sessions! If you're anywhere near, let me know - you can just bring yourself and we can make some disgusting noise!
-
And then no one will remember how to write or spell... I suppose the loss of writing and spelling is the next on the list of evolutionary 'forgotten' skills, much like making fire and hunter gathering. Be interesting to see if it gets replaced with anything that takes us to a higher evolutionary standard or if we've peaked and it's all downhill from here!

I've had both Streamers and Thumbs, BO and NT. I do love their unique sound, but they are really heavy things (mine are all and have all been 6ers) and I find that after an hour my shoulder get very uncomfortable. The hang slightly more offset that most basses, so when playing stood up, the low end of the neck feels further away than say my EBMM Bongo. The tone is unique, and cuts like a knife - but they do have their challenges!

Every bass/guitar description where the seller has used this 'AI' is exactly the same... How eBay think that rolling this out will improve sales, I don't understand!

True, I forgot about that awful journey! I think I purged it from my memory... 😆 -

Done Essex to Glasgow and back in a day for a Gibson J200 once. Also did Essex to San Francisco for a Conklin 9 string, but that was over a weekend. -

I get it in principle. It'd be like a Star Trek universe kind of scenario, where everyone works to better themselves and not for financial gain. But humanity isn't there yet, we're still all inherently selfish and look out for our own. What I earn, I work for and do 'things' outside of the norm (mostly excessive travelling and chairing numerous meetings etc.) to earn that. Some would prefer to earn a different wage and not do what I do. Same for me and other jobs I wouldn't want to do (even if I could) that earn differently. Choice and the reward for 'hard work' are necessary at the moment in the society we've built.
-
Stitch is with that, you eliminate the reward aspect of years of learning. Why go through 6-8 years of training and education to be earning the same as a shelf stacker? Yes, we need shelf stackers, but there are those that would rather earn less and not go through rigorous learning and those that would choose to go through years of education to reach a goal. I agree, in an idealistic world, you're right. But in reality it wouldn't work as we'd have no surgeons and lots of stackers!

I suspect you're probably the only person to 'download to try' then go and spend money on the same thing you've already downloaded. If you could provide the evidence for stating that illegally downloading music etc. factually provided income for the industry, I'd love to see it!

It's not about legally wriggling out of it, it's about recognising what is right and wrong. Illegally using someone else's trademarked property is wrong, in fact it's theft. Think about the forward ramifications of accepting this now as 'just a bit of fun'... it will normalise that thought process and when AI expands to start impacting you personally, for instance you being made redundant and your job going to AI (or someone you know), then it will be your acceptance of this that paved the way for that. AI is devaluing humanity under the guise of it all being just a bit of fun. It's also hugely preventative in the growth of real art and skills like graphic design. I personally know at least 3 people that have had to take up second 'unskilled' jobs just to keep afloat due to the impact of this kind of AI on their industry. Also, using an AI engine to justify the use of AI infringing on IP is, to say the least, ironic and I'd say very much confirms the above!
-
This might all be well and fun, and perceived as innocent, but it is the start of a slippery slope. I personally believe that people that use these AI services that blatantly, and with no apology, rip off IP from multiple trademarked platforms, have absolutely no right to complain when their IP, job, industry they work in etc. becomes impacted by this form of AI. What this AI is doing, and by virtue what people using it are doing is theft, it's that straight forward. AI in the not-so-intelligent form that it exists in, and is being used in, today is not a positive thing. In my humble opinion, something as blatant and obvious as this shouldn't be infecting this forum and I suspect it probably could leave BassChat open to legal ramifications.

Just finished putting together my new kit... Absolutely love it! The Shell Pack is a 7 piece Tamburo Opera Stave kit, hand made in Italy. It looks and sounds awesome with Evans blue hydrolic heads. I've switched my cymbals over to an 8 piece set of Meinl Custom Classic Darks. The black/gold hardware on the 'fantasy blue' finish of the kit works perfectly with the black/gold of the Meinl cymbals. It's a WAY better kit than my amateur drum skills deserve... I'll keep at it and maybe build up to skills deserving of it in 20 years...

107% Completely Legitimate...
binky_bass replied to binky_bass's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Given the clear lies about having 'just bought it yesterday from a shop' and then advertising several guitars at 3 to 4 times RRP, I think we can factor that out. The below Ibanez Talman is £229 new, so him 'buying it yesterday' and saying that even at £560 it's 'loosing him money' is, to say the least, utter crªp.
