  1. Bee Basses, Nordstrand Pick-ups and Conklin. It's now close to 13 years since I placed my order for Binky, and as much as it was a custom bass made to some very particular specifications it still amazes me every time I pick him up. Everything from the build quality to the ergonomics to the general tone and sound both acoustically and plugged in far exceed what I ever expected and being honest, I expected a lot from this bass! From point of order to delivery was just over 2 years, but mother of god it was worth it! No bass I have ever played at any level comes close, and a good 95% of people that have held and played Binky have come to the same conclusion. Some kudos to Carey Nordstrand too as he built the pickups for Binky based on a small essay I wrote explaining the sound I wanted, and he absolutely nailed it! Conklin also greatly impressed me, I managed to snag an 8 string custom USA Conklin a few years ago, and yes they are eye-wateringly expensive, but they are also a total game changer! Build is just insane and their in-house pickups combined with a demeter pre-amp just kills almost everything else out there. So Bee Basses, they are rare as hens teeth on the second hand market, and Fred doesn't seem to be building anymore, but if you EVER see one for sale, buy it. They are simply outstanding. Nordstrand pick-ups - Because they made something so specific to my wants without batting an eyelid and Conklin because, well, they are stunning in every capacity!
  2. The man is right, didn't say 'Gretsch' earlier! The mysterious ways of basschat... Beautiful bass either way!
  3. Gasping for those red strings to come off! I know it's silly but you actually might find there's more interest in the bass with a 'normal' set of strings on it.
  4. @Dood [email protected] - CEO UPS Global [email protected] - CEO UPS UK Go striaght to the CEO, this is what I had to do to make Parcel Force take the situation Hellzero mentioned seriously. Russ.
  5. That Peavey TL6 is interesting... those Vigiers too! If you'd consider selling the Peavey, I might be interested sir!
  6. @eude, I didn't pursue the Warwick idea as the spec I wanted came out with a custom shop quote of over £14,000. Which is just insane money, yes it would of been probably the nicest Warwick ever created but for £14,000 I could buy a small fleet of second hand Foderas without them losing £10,000 in the second they're delivered!
  7. I was tempted by that Raro when it was up for sale! The 'orange' Overwater is a lot more yellow in the flesh, it's not the one that was on here recently though I did buy it from here probably 4 or 5 years ago. The Conklin was made by Bill Conklin himself in 2007 for Ishibashi Music in Japan, it was designed as a 'show stopper' and has an intimidating spec! Buckeye Burl top, pink ivory fretboard with Wenge stringers, wenge/rosewood neck, 24 fret, 8 string, custom Conklin magnetic pickups, custom RCM piezo pickups, RCM Midi pickup system, duel stereo output with midi output, duel truss rod with graphite reinforcement bars, Hipshot Ultralite tuners, RCM individual bridge rails. 34" scale. Demeter pre-amp. Controls are: top row: Vol, mag blend, piezo vol, midi vol. Middle row: bass, mid, treble. Bottom row: switch for piezo only/mag and piezo/midi only and midi toggle switch. The Bass has a cost of $12,000 when built and is NEVER leaving my possession! It's simple incredible and the best bass I've ever owned (except Binky).
  8. Thanks!! My brain couldn't figure it out! 😁
  9. Absolutely stunning, though I must ask, what is that wood coloured line on the edge of the fretboard in the 3rd and 4th from last picture? I can't make out what it is!
  10. Do not need another 6 string... Do not need another 6 string... Do not need another 6 string... Do not need another 6 string... Need another 6 string... Dammit!
  11. Very nice, I love an ACG, I've had a few 4 string ACGs in the past and they were great, missed out on a great 6 string ACG that was for sale at a very keen price on here last year, unfortunately it was bought and then instantly resold by the buyer at twice the price! The 9 string I have really is a masterpiece and will never be sold! Alan knows how to build a great bass, and better yet, knows how to build a great ERB!
  12. Looks absolutely stunning... https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F263912105810
  13. I'm a large man (except where it counts, decidedly average there...) and I need large things! Insult the basses if you must, but leave the poor sofa out of it! 🧐
  14. I've owned one or two Revelation guitars in the past, they are very well built and can be picked up pretty cheap second hand. Comparible to a high-end Epiphone I'd say. The couch is an L shape with 3 more seats so I have some space left for more 6+ stringers!!
  15. An updated photo of the herd, though it's only the 6+ stringers.
  16. It's no secret that I'm a man who likes a bass with 6 or more strings! Here's my stash of 6+ string basses, let's see what else is out there with 6 or more strings! (Extra points for 7, 8, 9 etc. stringers!) (Left to right: Lakestone 7, Conklin USA 8, De Gier 6, De Gier 6, Aries 6, Aries 6, Overwater 7, Overwater 7, ACG 9, Bee Bass 10)
  17. I have one of these with the MarkBass Midi Footswitch and paired with a Phil Jones Neo 8 cab. It's the best sounding, lightest, most versatile rig I've owned. Powerfully loud too. Excellent things these.
  18. This makes me want to start a ZZ Top covers band... Even though this has 2 less strings than my usual, I'd love this if I had a spare grand or so!
  19. I won't regret buying it, but the removal of certain manly bodily parts by my future ex-wife would be a certainty if I bought this!
  20. I really want this beast... shame I only have 6 string basses as trade bait!
  21. Hi all, I have 5 used sets of strings for 6 string bass up for grabs. I bulk bought 23 sets of high end strings and will be mass re-stringing the whole herd starting with five 6 string basses. Rather than bin these off I thought I'd post them here and see if I can earn a little beer money! One set are Conklin strings, tapered. Two sets are D'addario, one is Rotosound I think and I don't know the other! (Warwick Reds maybe?) 3 sets are quite dull and 2 sets are VERY usable. All have been lovingly re-packaged in the packaging the new strings came in (one box has 2 sets in it!). FYI The string have all been cut for 3-a-side basses with one or two cut for 35" scale, the rest are 34" scale. I'm asking £15 for the lot with £4 postage. Cheers, Russ.
  22. I've put it back in it's natural habitat for you...
