TBH by the time you've paid out for one of these cases and a Bass Safe you might as well have bought a Hiscox Lite-Flite case which is only slightly heavier than most of the current crop of semi rigid cases and is actually smaller than many of them.
The advantage of the bass safe IMO is that it has wheels which helps enormously on the long walk from car to airport check-in and once at destination the hard shell can be left in the hotel and the bass carried around in the light gig bag. besides I already have it and don't really want to see it wasted

Thanks for the offer but too late...I'd already ordered a Protec Contego after seeing a review from late 14 that said it fits in an SKB bass safe....if it doesn't fit I needed a 2nd gig bag anyway....should be with me early next week...it's being Thomanned and is in Koln at the moment...

I have a Mono M80 gig bag. I have to fly with it often. I have been using a SKB ATA44 bass safe. But ONLY just. It takes a lot of effort to get the clasps closed on the bass case. Last time I flew one of the clasps had forced itself open despite it being lockwired closed. I've had TSA padlocks on both sides and had them come off and clasps open...I don't know if this is customes not being able to close it after inspection or whether the padlocks have just come off and the clasps open as they are at their operating limit. Does anyone know of a high quality padded gig bag that actually fits into the SKB bass safe without it becoming a wrestling match? Most high quality gig bags seem too long from SKB website bass safe dimensions: Specifications Interior Length 48.50 in 123.19 cm Exterior Length 50.50 in 128.27 cm Exterior Width 20.25 in 51.44 cm Exterior Depth 7.25 in 18.42 cm Instrument Body Length 17.00 in 43.18 cm Instrument Body Depth 6.25 in 15.88 cm Instrument Lower Bout 16.75 in 42.55 cm Instrument Upper Bout 15.50 in 39.37 cm Carton Width 22.00 in 55.88 cm Carton Depth 8.75 in 22.23 cm Shipping Weight 17.80 lb 8.07 kg Product Weight 14.20 lb 6.44 kg
Is this a current album? If so you might be able to get it louder by re-mastering. PM if you'd like me to give it a go
It was our 1986 album 'The Mirror Test' - the masters were destroyed in a fire in about 1990 but with the magic of modern technology we did 'remaster' it from some digital version and released 'The Mirror Test redux' in 2013 - the redux version does sound better but the bass playing is awful so that's another reason not to listen to it!
There does seem to be some kind of purist snobbery that kicks in as soon as compression gets mentioned.
The guy engineering our 3rd album was allergic to compression. He was into 'fidelity' and 'dynamics'. As a result the album sounds totally sh*te and really quiet. None of us can listen to it.

I use it all the time. - a BBE Optostomp on my pedal baord permanantly on with the Comp at about 1 o'clock on the dial. I can still play with dynamics but it does even out my tone when I get clumsy with my right hand.

Back in the day I started with a Carlsboro Cobra 90W head into a noname 1x15 cab and it was plenty loud enough but sounded sh*t. I then got myself a Sessionette 100W 4x10 combo which saw me play places like the Marquee and The Mean Fiddler without any fuss. These days I use a TecAmp Puma900 into a selection of Barefaced gear - overkill for sure - but I love having the headroom. I don't play pubs, mind.

Partner for Fender Original Pickup in a PJ bass?
Twigman replied to Paul S's topic in Repairs and Technical
I can tell you what NOT to use.....don't use an Allparts bridge J pickup....I partnered one up with a Fender Original P pickup and it really didn't work at all. That particular bass now has a matched set of Aguilars in it and sounds sweet. -
Never used a [s]strap[/s] clip on

Two A Boss TU-3 on my pedal board and a manky old Korg plastic tuner which is covered in scuzz...dunno the model number but can't find a pic of one on the interweb...it's from the 80s and has tiny LEDs rather than a needle and is black and angled in the middle like old wooden synths from the 70s were (but way smaller)....it smells funny EDIT: Found it on the interweb...it's a Korg DT-2 - almost as scuzzy as mine Edit: just acquired a TC polytune mini to try to cut down on space used on my board

Warmoth are far far better quality than the ebay kits
The only thing I'd do to change the bass if money were no object is replace the reverse tuners, not a major problem they are just a bit annoying.
what's annoying about them?

The wattage of the amp is irrelevant really. It's down to how efficient the speaker is in converting that electrical power into moving air.

anyone been through the I-129 and P1 visa process for band & crew?

Anyone in a band with NO interpersonal issues???
Twigman replied to mingsta's topic in General Discussion
No problems in my band. Been together on and off for over 30 years. We don't play many gigs. We have a great laugh when we're away together. One of our number works with a very big act for his day job and reckons coming away with us is infinitely more fun. -
We're looking at an 8 date tour of the west coast of USA in March. We need P1 visas. there are 5 of us. We know a I-129 petition needs filing to USCIS before we apply for our P1 visas. We plan on taking our own sound engineer. I read on the musicians union website that crew need a seperate petition applying for. If that's the case then I suspect either the tour won't be econimically viable as via an agency like Tamzidat that would add at least $1825 to the upfront costs or we'll have to leave him behind. - That would be a shame as he is a founder member of the band and we really need someone who knows us to be FOH behind the desk - so many 'in house' soundmen get it so wrong. We'll be playing 8 500ish capacity venues. Anyone been on a tour like this and understand the protocol for sound men?
