London rehearsal studios with stages. Where are they?
Twigman replied to dave_bass5's topic in General Discussion
Premises http://www.premisesstudios.com
Crikey...those 2 rehearsal rooms will sound a bit live won't they? With all those breeze blocks Why do none of these studios publish their rates? -
What did you think of it?
The neck was a bit chunky to say the least! but bizarrely felt right because of the 'narrowness' of the fingerboard. ...I found being restricted to a single string extremely limiting...hahaha - certainly root fifth stuff out the window unless the string was tuned to the root of the key!
OK... I don't own it anymore but this Atlansia Solitaire used to be mine:
Did you sell that to Jonny Shrimpton? If so I've played it.

Where's the option for 3?

Last night my Warmoth DinkyP with a Status jazz neck (very light at 7lb3oz) was frustrating me. Symptoms were akin to a dead spot...the C on the A string (3rd fret) seemed much quieter than all the other notes. Never noticed it before. It's strung 45 65 80 100 d'Addario ENR71 half rounds. They've been on a while and I suppose the A string does the most work so perhaps all it is is an indication it's time to change strings? But I prefer the thud of old strings to the twang of new ones. But I prefer the feel of the half rounds over anything else so not going to go flats (been there)....

IEC kettle leads with US plugs..where to buy in UK?
Twigman replied to Twigman's topic in Accessories and Misc
our own is well maintaned and regularly serviced....and the card with the sounds on it has a removable coin battery and the synth can read direct from the card if necessary A modern replacement? We've tried but replicating the sound of a D50 isn't easy.... -
Personally I'd have a look to see if it would be possible to hire a D50 in the US and just bring a laptop loaded with a MIDI dump of the sounds that you need.
We have a battery powered card for the slot on the D50 ,containing a dump of all our sounds, which we used to use when using hired D50s on EU flyaways. We stopped hiring D50s and started taking our own as the EU hire stock all appeared to be broken! The D50 is getting old now (1986/87) and I would be concerned as to the reliability of any hired D50....there's nothing worse than finding the keyboard has a host of non functioning keys. -

Does that mean our Roland D50 synth will have a problem? It doesn't have a 110V switch on it but we are looking at getting a transformer but hadn't considerd the frequency difference. And as for the idea of making up an extension lead with US plug instead of 2 kettle leads...2 points 1) didn't want to do that as luggage space limited and 2) Where do I get a US plug in UK? -

i am biased but this was the best album of the 80s Sad Lovers & Giants - Feeding the Flame I wasn't in the line up that recorded this album, I joined for the next album but I fell in love with this album and have been married to the band ever since. There's a full upload on youtube - but the track listing is incorrect - The video starts at their listed track4 (as did the vinyl) ....and there are a few websites that tend to agree with me! How can I improve finger strength and independence
Twigman replied to Chappers86's topic in Theory and Technique
Maybe you should hand the guitarist your bass and politely request that he demonstrate playing the part exactly the way he wants it played throughout the whole song, or invite him to provide you with a quality short scale bass at his expense.
LOL....and he's smaller than me...hahaha -
Conversion rates when buying and selling in the Market place.
Twigman replied to Ruck's topic in General Discussion
It is the OP's problem because the agreed amount was in Pounds but he has paid in Euros without agreeing on an exchange rate beforehand. Compromising and splitting the difference somehow seem like the most sensible way to go.
I suspect the OP has paid the agreed amount in GBP but that the seller only has a bank account in his local currency. For the receiving bank to credit the seller with the cash they have to convert it. The seller should have stipulated an account that holds GBP if he wished to receive full value. I believe the OP has fulfilled his obligation in full but the seller has been naive in believing his bank will give him full value on conversion. -
Do you have a second bass, 'pre-tuned', that you could rapidly swap to..? Just a suggestion.
Most of my gigs are overseas (apparently we're big in the Med!!) so i only take the one bass with me. -
I gave it a try, and found that if I played as legato as possible but didn't try to hold hown the root note(but did hold the fifth and added 9), that as long as everything was smooth and even, then the root note not sustaining throughout wasn't a big deal
Yeah i played it like that the other night at rehearsal but Mr Guitard (who wrote this dismal ditty) was critical and insistent that i practice holding it down...he was watching my every move. I too thought it was OK to lose the root, especially once the guitar comes in.... but Mr Guitard can get a bit anal about these things at times. I might try the retuning idea but knowing my band they're not going to wait for me between songs.. -
Would there be any mileage in tuning the 'G' string to 'A' for this song..? That'll help the arpeggio stretch for the second chord. The 'D' could go up to 'E', too, so effectively tuning the bass specifically for those chords. Any help..?
retuning before and after a song, mid set....I don't think so -
How can I improve finger strength and independence
Twigman replied to Chappers86's topic in Theory and Technique
I need to practice stretching my hand...how do I do this? Why? Well there's a song in our back catalogue which some bright spark has decided to add to the live set... It involves playing the following strings and frets with each group of 4 notes played arpeggio but holding each note, letting it ring to form a chord.A(0)A D2(E) G4( B ) D2(E) (easy enough) A4(C#) D6(G#) G8(Eb) D6(G#) (bugger that's a stretch), E4(G#) A6(Eb) D8(Bb) A6(Eb) (another stretch but somehow easier than the C#) E0(E) A2( B ) D4(F#) A2( B ) (aaah relief)...... here's the studio version It's far easier on a short scale bass than a 34" - sadly I only take a 34" to gigs. - I only own 34" basses I suppose the only answer to achieve that stretch 4-8 across 3 strings is to practice. I need bigger hands. -
OK so here's the thing..... i run a board from a t-rex Chameleon Specs here: http://www.t-rex-effects.com/fueltank-chameleon/ Currently it runs just a BBE Optostomp, a COG Custom Khyber Pass chorus and a Boss TU-3 tuner - so all low current draws. I am considering adding an EBS Valve Drive pedal to my rig. http://www.ebssweden.com/content/valvedriveDI.php which according to the specs page above draws 700mA.. Depending on where one looks the T-Rex Chameleon says it can supply either 300mA or 350mA per 9V output but there is provision for current doubling if you can find a current doubling cable...t-rex have them on their site: http://shop.t-rex-effects.com/collections/cables/products/green-current-doubler-cable I have had an e-mail exchange with a well known (on here) supplier of the EBS Valve Drive who states:
the EBS would be a great choice and should work with any good power supply unit.
I'm not so sure.... I know the EBS comes with its own PSU but I don't think its switchable to 110V and I hope to be going to US soon so it would need US leccy. So I was wondering if it could run off the Chameleon - I'm still non the wiser.... What say you?
