1. Promoters..... they don't lsten to sh*t do they? They screw up bookings, complain about the price of flights, forget to book the luggage allowance, screw up hotel bookings, complain about how much everything is costing them...etc etc IF YOU'D ACTUALLY READ AND UNDERSTOOD OUR TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT THEN YOU WOULD'VE GOT IT RIGHT FIRST TIME AND NOT HAD TO FORK OUT FOR CHANGES BECAUSE YOU WERE BEING TOO MUCH OF A CHEAPSKATE TO DO IT PROPERLY IN THE FIRST PLACE. They really are a bunch of crooks, aren't they? They come to us and ask us to play for them. We communicate our T&Cs. They accept those T&Cs They then take every shortcut in the book in an effort to do it on the cheap. We then point out that those weren't the T&Cs. They start crying about how much it's costing and that to change stuff will cost them more. Well you should have done ot properly in the first place, shouldn't you Arthur Daley! and as for whining about how much it's costing then perhaps you should put a bit more effort into the promotion and getting the punters through the door. God I hate promoters...
2.
The vmt version of the ultra is going to be really interesting, will the bypass sound be completely the same as the b7k, or will it have some of that vintage loveliness due to the era function?
I suspect the VMT ultra won't have an Era knob....the new VMT deluxe doesn't - it has the same controls as the B7K http://darkglass.com...dynamic-preamp/
3. Before I joined basschat I had lived for decades (yes decades-plural) with just 1 bass and 1 hard case......and for much of that time no amp (rehearsals used house gear/gigs hired backline) but basschat has induced me to spend hundreds if not thousands of pounds.....I now have 4 and a half basses, 2 guitars, 2 amp heads, 2 cabinets, several pedals, 2 pedal boards, 4 hard cases, 2 gig bags.....and I've still got GAS. basschat can damage your bank balance.
4.
I think if I were to get my grubby hands on a Precision that would be the end of my GAS as I'd have all my basses covered. A Jazz, a Ric, a Musicman and a P.
but then you'd need 1 of each strung with flats and rounds and 1 of each without any frets....
5.

Gender:Not Telling
If you're hacked off with PMT then I suspect you've given the game away Edit: I did only read the first line of the OP....
6. having watched the Billy Sheehan demo of it I'm blown away by the way it has the dry and wet signal effect loops and comes with TRS Y splitter cable ...the sonic possibilities seem amazing... but It's not a real tube is it? Just a simulation.... hmmmm
7. Have you been sacked but don't yet know it?
8. Another band operating with the same name?
9. That must be the least inviting ad for a bass player I've ever read. Whoever wrote it comes across as a right ****.
10. I didn't realise how much snobbery there is among bass players!
11. I'll take that as a No then..... so what compromise is there?
12. Surely the WHUFC badge would devalue this bass significantly? You'd have to pay me to play it.
13.
I like playing in Bb.
No No No....there are NO open string opportunities in Bb minor
14. I think only having the basics covered could be, in my circumstance, beneficial. We write our own stuff....and because we (I) only have basic theory covered, we find ourselves using runs and harmonies that I suspect those with a deeper understanding of theory wouldn't even consider... and they seem to work.
15. Ok so since moving to a Puma rig i realise that the sound I want to make isn't quite as clean as I thought. So i'm looking for a pedal pre that has (at least) the following: A 12AX7 tube Gain control on the tube. A frequency knob to isolate the frequency to saturate A Q knob to extend or narrow that frequency range A Blend knob that allows the dry signal to dominate. Unity gain irrespective of knob settings (ie signal as loud with pedal Off as On). Perhaps instead of the Freq/Q knobs a multiband EQ before the valve might suffice, as long as the clean signal can bypass this through the Blend knob. Does this pedal exist? What I'm after is a subtle hint of valve warmth, a very subtle fizz/break up on the sustain...
16. Minotaur straps do it for me.
17.
Also check out the glorious eight minute extended 12" mix which is on one of the "Best Of" albums. Has lots of sections with just bass and drums or with the bass accentuated in the mix which really let you hear what Bernard was doing and what a genius he was. Could be useful for nailing/practicing the parts...
4:12.....how did they let that one through? That's the kind of timing mistake I would make...remarkable that he didn't overdub it.
18. I have the Puma900....it's very clean compared to a Streamliner.... no grit in the pre. I thought I had a very clean sound but I'm now on the hunt for a subtle valve pedal... If you go to the Puma then you'll likely be doing the same before long, i suspect.
19. There must be 100s of artists in my 'blind spot'.....I'd say there's way more in my blind spot than I'm actually aware of. Having been to public school I made a concerted effort to avoid prog rock - in the 70s prog rock was the staple of the public schoolboy. Yes, Genesis, King Crimson, ELP etc etc all got DELIBERATELY overlooked and these days I still can't see the attraction. i watched a documentary the other night (was it on Sky Arts or BBC4 perhaps?) about the history of Genesis...nope didn't get it.... I avoid metal of all types.....I just don't find much musical about turning the gain up to 13 and head banging oneself into a brain injury. Rap - nope - apart from the fact that I can rarely make out a word, it all sounds the same (am I becoming my Dad?) Country - nope never on my radar Funk - there's the odd bit of funk in my collection - yes I can appreciate the rhythmic side of it...but I don't have enough rhythm to play it so I suspect I'd just get frustrated listening to it. Soul - soul seems to be very popular round where I live...all the ladies round my way seem to like a bit of Luther VanDROSS ....I can't stand the sickly sweetness of it all and wish i could find where all the indie chicks hang out. Where do the indie/goth chicks hang out in Dunstable?
20. Whoever got the PJ for €35 got a bargain http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_pj_4_htr_deluxe_series_deko.htm
21.
anyone who earns more money from music than they have spent on their equipment can be described as professional.
Some years that would be me. However I'm pretty sh*t and could only ever do what i do in the band that i'm in.
22. Surely by definition the only criteria is whether you get paid for it or not. Ability is irrelevant.
23. I have never been influenced to purchase any bass because somebody else uses one. I really don't understand that mentality. Who is influenced to buy a bass because so and so uses one?
24.
I will not be using them at the same time...the MidgetT would be for rehearsals in the car....the S12T would be for gigs in the van Edit: unless I find a way to get an S12T in a GT86 (plus at least one bass, a head, a pedal board and all the other gubbins required)....in which case I will not need a MidgetT Found this pic of a Marshall 2x12 in the boot of a GT86...hmmm i wonder if a S12T is any bigger?
Answer for anyone that might be interested is that a Barefaced S12T does not fit in the boot of a GT86....so I bought myself a supermidget for when i want to drive the 86 to rehearsals......contemplating swapping the S12T for a gen3 Compact for a more flexible rig....
25.
I'm guessing it's American for "is your car reliable?".

And You guessed right. When your offering someone a job with money it's a completely reasonable question. Blue
I once had a job interview where the interviewer (MD of the company) asked "What colour car do you drive? And what make is it?" It turns out he was the only person with a non-silver car allowed to park in the spaces in front of the building thus if one's car was anything other than silver you weren't allowed in the company spaces...oh and he insisted on everyone's car being German. He said it was something to do with the company's image. Despite not meeting these criteria I still got the job but was banned from parking in front of the building and had to park several yards away.
