Hi, am seriously considering this amp, as I need a replacement portable head after my Ibanez Promethean blew up recently. Is everything functioning ok, and if so, any particular reason why you want to sell it?! Colin (Southampton) -
I hear what you say about getting a professional on the job; couldn't agree more. Thus far, I've contacted 2 reputable techs in my area (Southampton). One says he's semi-retired and booked-up for 3 months; the other hasn't bothered to respond.

My thanks to all the above. Machinehead, I'm not too bothered about cost or affecting the value, as I won't be parting with this beauty! An SD does seem like a good option. Pfretrock, don't know about the wiring mode, but point noted; ta. Musicbassman, I have an '86 Squier Jazz, now with American Standard Fender pickups, and it's pretty damn good. For the Tele, all I need is a bit more top, and a Jazz p/u could well provide that. Chris b, I don't want to replace the humbucker, as the sound is so huge. Also most other (smaller) pickups would leave a gap...! I actually nearly traded this bass for a Bass Centre Profile, last week, but drew back, and realise now that [sigh] I could never let it go.

I have a Squier tele bass, which is long on excellent thud, but short on tone. I'd like to get a 2nd pickup fitted, between its humbucker and the bridge. Has anyone done this, or similar with another bass? Any thoughts/advice welcome.

Hi Pete, Apologies for delay in responding! That's a fair price. Another Basschat chap kindly sent me a pair of old Jazz pickups, but they don't quite fit my Squier: at 19mm across, they're too wide. They're also both of equal length. Please check the dimensions of those you have: they need to be 17mm across; 9.0 and 9.3 cm in length. If so, please let me know, at [email protected]. Incidentally, could you be interested in a pair of DiMarzio Jazz PUs, valued at the equivalent £40, as a deal? Colin -

Hi GNU, I know your pain, mate. After 24 years(!), I got back a bass nicked from my car in '91. The scumbags will only want to flog it on, and either have or are lying low for a bit. Circulate the serial numbers! (I'm assuming you'd made a note of them...?)

I'm on my 3rd Trace amp now, having had other stuff in-between-years. Managed to get the last AH600 head going at Bass Centre in Bagshot. A tad heavy, but insanely powerful. I disagree with Mr 40Hz: the [Mid] Pre-Shape is a superb feature, getting rid of honkiness, and you can build on it with the EQ.
