1. Good points but I don't think it has anything to do with music or kids today, just human nature.
 2.
If this is the case, I find it amazing that someone who has the sense to attempt that wouldn't do a little research and get the site to be a bit more believable, wouldn't take much
In the Google Adsense world these sites are known as MFA's or made for adsense. The lack of quality content is one of the games. You get people onto the page with great keywords and SEO and the user will click an ad to leave. The owner likely doesn't know what fretless means and most of the content will be copied and pasted from the web, what they call a scraper site. Posting a link to it from a bass forum only helps the site gain traffic.
 3. Hmm, the one by me is George Benson and DMS. That does imply a smooth jazz evening.
 4. Some of the worst shows I've seen have been allstar groups. But I'd still take a chance on this one
 5.
Some people feel threatened by ERBs
Nearly all ERB players feel threatened by the rest of the world. It's like they have a Sterling of their own.
 6.
Ok, I'll bite! - sure have an opinion about how a Bass isn't to your liking but seriously, ripping a guy you don't even know just because of the Bass he plays or the music he's in to is a major low ball. All the chats and comms I've had with John Turner have been helpful and informative.
I've met him, he's a douche.
 7. I love this forum
 8. Some think that's worth the extra $3k. Me, not so much.
 9. Yeah, it does
 10. Wider string spacing than an MIM jazz. They seem to go pretty cheap in the US and I think that's because they're not a well known model and the gold hardware can be a turn off.
 11. Huh, I remember a thread on talkbass about him going back to bong building or something. Good to see he continues to share his gift.
 12.
I'm leaning towards ordering a Wishbass.
He's out of business, they're all collectors items now. And the quality keeps going up with the price.
 13.
But then do you go for Cross ply, radial or even Belt Biased . Road, competition, Dunlop, Good Year the list is endless.
Nitrogen filled if you gig in the evenings.
 14.
Some really interesting thoughts in this thread, I agree, a solid paint finish will mask the tone of the wood. Its like putting fabric over a snare drum, it will change the tone.
What I meant by that was once you hide the wood with a solid finish the experts can no longer hear the specific subtleties. Where as a clear finish will let those tones shine through. It's not unlike how no one can hear a truss rod type or graphite neck reinforcements without knowing about them first.
 15. I keep waiting for Jay Kay to sing Very cool track.
 16. Very cool. I've always been a fan of weird instruments and discouraging the worship of irrelevant woods. I got a chance to see Eddie Jobson last week playing an entirely plastic violin and it sounded great.
 17.
Bridge or neck wide open. Tone wherever I like. I can't run both pickups at the same time or my bass makes next to no sound, really odd, I have to turn it up like 3-4 times what I'd put a normal passive bass through if I have both pickups cranked. Giving up and rewiring it soon.
Sounds like the pickups could be out of phase with each other. Try reversing the leads on one pickup and see if that helps. There will be a small volume loss when both are on since they are in parallel but it should be minimal.
 18.
There's loads of great looking basses I've been looking at recently but because they don't make 5-string versions they are of little practical use to me.
I'll take that one step further and say they don't make a 5 with a 34" scale and 17-17.5mm bridge spacing. Size is important!
 19.
Maybe Andy's been keeping quiet about those royalty cheques which kept arriving in his letterbox
In an interview actor Brad Whitford said he was getting royalty checks meant for Brad Whitford the guitarist from Aerosmith. When asked what he did with them he smiled and said cashed them. That's life imitating your jokes
 20.
I bet no-one in the world can consistently identify what type of wood a bass is made of just by listening to it, but I reckon a lot of us could spot a roundwound or flatwound string.
That's how I feel about it, and once it's mixed it can be near impossible to tell anything for sure. I've also found a solid color paint job can completely mask the subtlety of the wood.
 21. You might be thinking of the B. F. Skinner signature model.
 22.
Let's face it. Anyone who buys a signature model of any description is seriously missing the point anyway and asking to be exploited
Harsh but true
 23.
Also, apparently the fretboard wood choice has insignificant impact on tone, that comes mostly from the neck timber itself.
Yet Sadowsky and others say the fingerboard is the most important. Sometimes it's hard to tell which prophet/salesman holds the true secret and which is just trying to sell stuff.
 24.
Ah, apologies then. I heard a while ago that he played most songs on record on a ray with a few exceptions (some big songs) being played on a Wal.
From what I've heard over the years only the first album has any Stingray on it.
 25.
It is largely in the EQ and all about adjusting the mids to the sweet spot .Im getting there now after nearly a decade playing Rays! ,But its worth it when you get it right.
10 years to figure out how to use a single pickup bass? No thanks
