OK I'll take the bait For a million pounds I would let Gary Glitter play with me!!!
For a little while I would get some good gigs as an entertainer that would pay 4 figures in a day. My joke was always once you get to a 4 figure day rate the job description is irrelevant, I'll be there. I think one problem with this threads question is it is asking for a black and white answer. A better question may be how much does integrity play into your decision. I'm sure we can all come up with hypothetical examples of gigs we wouldn't play so I don't think any of us would play absolutely any gig.
 2.
Cool! Page two and we're almost on to Nazis already!!
Nazis? Rubbish, Now a shark would have found Anne Frank like that (snaps fingers).
 3.
Being professional doesn't mean a lowering of standards, now does it?
I think it does, that's why you get money.
 4.
But what about if you have to deliver BNP (or whoever)promo material? Would you flat out refuse to deliver it,or just get on with it and do your job?
In the US a number of religious hardliners have refused to do their job on religious grounds. Usually not providing medical help for those they call sinners. Some notable cases are pharmacists refusing to fill prescriptions for things they don't approve of. While I fully support their right to be extremists I think they need to quit their job instead of trying to get laws passed supporting their beliefs and giving them special powers over other people. That would be integrity
 5.
If I were a pro? Still no. I'm someone who despite loving Shredded Wheat, won't eat them because they're made by Nestle and I don't like some of what Nestle get up to. My morals and principles come before cash. I'd probably look to get a different job if it meant playing for people I disliked.
Can you imagine what kind of world it would be if everyone thought like that?
 6.
Unless, of course, you're someone like Victor Wooten, who I can't imagine standing in for a session with a death metal band although I'm sure he'd do it quite well!
Victor sells magic power cords, he'd take the gig if the money was good. Oddly enough his buddy Steve Bailey was one of the main ghost players on many hair metal bands records.
 7.
Seriously stable and the angled bolts are a unique feature.
Nah, been done before. Billy used to recommend standing on the bass while tightening the neck bolts, well, for the best tone.
 8. Smaller truss rod for a woodier tone... Yeah... I can hear that...
 9.

The choreographer needs punishment! Is this one of those things where everybody who paid for the class gets to perform?
 10. Wow, he was trying to sell this forever! The seller has revised the following item information: Date Time Revised Information Apr-21-10 16:00:45 PDT PictureURL: Pictures Added/Deleted
 11.
Can you ad this item to your "watch list" and let me know the final selling price?
Sold For: US $1,200.00 Well below the asking price of $1699 but still a hefty price.
 12.
Generally speaking is not enough to make me spend dosh on anything. I have a bass all made from maple - neck, board and body. It is the deepest, darkest, warmest sounding bass I have ever played
Yet another example contradicting the "truth" about wood tones. Anyone assigning a specific tone rule to maple without mentioning a species shows an ignorance of basic wood knowledge as maple is one of the most varied woods available commercially ranging from heavy and dense to lighter than alder. If you don't know the difference between acer macrophyllum & acer saccharum there's a pretty good chance you can't hear which one sounds fuller and more round & fuzzy with a pink wiggly nose & cute bottom. Or whatever non committal description is being used today.
 13. I'm still waiting for the day that someone who claims they can hear all the differences that supposedly come from wood and construction to be able to discern any of these things from the sound of a bass alone. I know I'm in the minority with this opinion but I've always felt that if you can't tell the difference by listening alone you can't hear the difference. When wood tones are described based on their physical qualities it really suggests a desperate need to not say I don't know. Dark woods = dark tone, light woods = bright tone, soft woods = soft tone. Except in cases where they don't.
 14. It's the kind of thing you want your friend to buy and leave at your place for the weekend.
 15. Or just simple group think. A quick read of The Emperors New Clothes will explain the phenomena completely. The various hypotheticals trying to rationalize the assumption are just a side effect and would go into the more complex concept of Cognitive Dissonance. I find that in most people the truth is valued much less than being right.
 16.
Coming very late to this thread and missing most of the discussion, to me it seems like a fairly decent idea, I can at least see how some (if not all) of the switching options would be useful. But could they not have come up with a better name? For a start, I absolutely hate that turn of phrase anyway, and secondly it's just pure hyperbole that's probably setting the product for a massive fall when it doesn't live up to its name. Just give it a sensible name and let it sell itself, if it's good enough people will go for it.
The ridiculous hype does mess things up a bit.
 17. What body formed from layers? Pickup holes in a neck? You lost me
 18.
The differences I'm talking about would alter the resonant frequency of the circuit, not exactly colour the sound, using 1/2pi root LC.
Then it's not a new sound. You have to stick to one position or you'll appear to be flailing.
I'm not sure if it would be possible (without seeing a schematic) to measure the electrical properties within the GC.
If you really don't have basic knowledge of the subject maybe all this hypothetical speculation is a bit premature? I'll give you a clue though. Any difference can be measured at the jack. If it can't it's not a difference in tone. These claims by EBMM require faith. I don't have it.
 19.
And who are you to judge who will benefit or otherwise? You seem to be all sweetness and light one minute, and abrasive and all-knowing the next. You also seem to like telling people what to do and what not to do based on your personal perception of what's right and wrong. How many personalities do you actually have?
I'd wager he only has the one personality. That of a god. Apologies for not using the patronizing sandwich and just being blunt.
 20.
No worries, i'm glad you realise the error and didn't get sand in your vagina about it!
21.
If those types of differences were enough to be audible then it would mean the actual GC circuitry was colouring the sound of the bass, something that would be generally seen as undesirable..
I'm always baffled by those who claim they can hear, or assume they could hear, differences that we can't detect with lab instruments. If I was a more daring man I'd register on the EBMM forum and post 3 links. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psychoacoustic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_dissonance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sycophant But I live close to the factory and guns are just too easy to get here
 22.
I think you're missing my point a little. The reason I'm not interested in the pickup LCR values, is that I know they're irrelevant. Regardless of whatever they are for each coil (and there probably will be a slight variation due to manufacturing tolerances) I think that any variation that may come through will be down to the wiring route within the GC. Because internally it will pass through a variety of switches (hazzarding another guess, I'd say they are probably connected through multiplexers), I'd say that there is a potential for the values to differ depending on the routing. I'm fully aware that the variations (if they even exist) will be very small internally, but it doesn't take a major change of values to alter the fundamental frequency of the circuit.

I never really was much good with science.
EDIT: Hey, I just realized how well our sigs go together.
 23.
I'm thinking about commissioning a somewhat special bass for a particular sentimental reason. I have an urge to get close to the traditional MM and P bass tones from something that looks much more modern. Can you Stingray and Fender P bass owners give me the pickup centreline distances from the 12th fret so that I can look at the possibilities. Much appreciated. Pedro
In a standard pickup shell there is about 4mm of overlap. If you pulled them out of the shell and made your own you could get the coils in the exact spots. I went for the P being 4mm towards the nut and I love it. The 2 together are greater than either alone.
 24.
You have two AC voltage sources, if the waveform of one differs from the other (which is very possible, unless you have 0% manufacturing tolerance) there's the potential for a difference. I don't deny the physics of series circuits, all I am saying is that I would like to see a comparison of the waveforms. I've not actually stated whether I think there's a difference or not, I'm keeping an open mind until I've seen it for myself.
One, a hypothetical "they could be different" is hardly an answer for anything. Two, what does that answer that you quoted from me? When you quoted me I inferred you were continuing from one of my points. I can't figure out what it could be.
