1. I've just acquired a 55-02 (same pickups/preamp as the 55-94) and have been giving it a good thrashing the last few days. I would say it can sound quite similar to a Jazz, more in a Marcus Miller type sound than your typical Jazz sound though. The coil tap allows you to select single coil mode in the humbucker which makes it sound extremely convincing. To replace a Jazz ? No, but to compliment it ? Certainly. The Lakland can do a reasonable impression of a Stingray too, albeit less aggressive and a little more polite.
2. Cab will be about 36Kg. http://www.ashdownmusic.com/bass/detail.as...n=abm&ID=14
3. Yeah plain black for me too please !
4. That's the one - it may be quite a tight fit so after the screws are out be prepared to give it a bit of a tug !
5. If I forget about music for a few days I definitely come back to the bass with new ideas, technically i'm no better but I find my only real limitation is in thinking of something to play badly in the first place .
6. The Sterling has a smaller body, thinner neck and an extra fret. Soundwise they're similar but it could be said the Sterling is more versatile with the 3-way selector.
7. Big thumbs up from me - someone grab it !
8. Swapped my Stingray for Lee's Lakland 55-02 last week, he came up for the swap from Devon so mega thumbs up from me. Great chap !
9. Depends how much you want to spend really, WD are quite expensive and I found they aren't that good a fit either. Had to file out the neck pickup slot on the one I bought..
10. 4 ?! They can't have all been playing at the same time ! Iron Maiden have 3 and to be honest 2 would be enough. One rhythm and one lead is just right. 3's company and all that .
11. BassCentre were definitely there in 2006, and BassDirect in 2007. Anyway - don't forget that Bass Day is the same weekend . http://www.bassday.co.uk/
12. You posted it in Basses For Sale and I moved it .
13. Very shiny natural finishes... chrome bits.. mmm Just make sure there's no dust/fingerprints !
14. Yeah I suppose so, there's usually a queue though. Want to try the bass too ?
15. Swapped my Stingray with Rasta yesterday for his Lakland Skyline 55-02. He was visiting his in-laws 2 miles away so it worked out very well on the drop-off ! Top bloke and it was a painless affair. Have tweaked it as per my requirements and it's very nice. Lots of sounds available from the EQ and pickup combo, and the B is extremely tight and focused. Haven't tweaked the EQ yet but it seems like the bass/treble are fairly subtle but the mid-range control is brutal ! Put some brand spanking Slinkies on it (40-125) and they seem to suit it well. I'll miss the Stingray but this will keep me happy.. I would do sound samples but Lakland beat me to it and are better than me anyway: http://www.lakland.com/ac_5502.htm
16. Oh but they're wooly and it'll probably blow up .
17. It explains why they're cheap but I can assure you they aren't rubbish.
18. I quite liked the one I tried. A very modern Jazz sound to it - great tone to it. The active EQ does make a big difference to the tone and in a positive way...
19. bassman100 - you may be better off answering peoples concerns in public, this will in my eyes show that you take it seriously and will try to address these issues rather than keeping it behind the scenes.
20. Oh but which one ?! Watch this space for details of Basschat's first 'swap triangle'.
21. Deal impending - just waiting for Friday for swapover.
22.
It sounded bloody GREAT. 'I'm keeping this,' I thought. 'I'll pull it from ebay when I get home.' Checked my email at half-time... some (lucky) bugger had hit the BIN.
I would have put up with the negative feedback if it was that good..
23.
Go for the JO5. Best 5er this side of £1500 (except for a bongo 5HH) IMHO... Kicks a 'ray 5's backside (again IMHO).
The important bit is highlighted . I am considering my options currently.
24. Spector Q6 Pro.. (2nd from left) Play spot the Basschatter as well .
