That's a good price assuming it's not totally knackered. I had one and with a 210 extension cab it was capable of smallish gigs no problem. On it's own it might struggle - but if you just want a practice amp or you don't play in a loud band it's perfect.

My turn to chip in ! My brand new L-2000 Tribute Carved Top. I must say - it is a revelation, it sounds like lots of basses i've owned, but none of them have been able to do more than one thing. This does everything. I got it from Bass Direct a few weeks ago after being curious and asking Mark to get one of these Carved Tops in. When I got there it hadn't turned up, so I played a Walnut Stain one instead which was awesome. I waited around 6 hours (it's not like there was nothing to look at!) and the courier came, got it out the box and decided there and then it was coming home. It's first gig coming up this Saturday .

Went to that shop in 2005, it was full of budget junk. Their website doesn't lead me to think that has changed.

Ok checked both out - neither sound like one to me ! I think solo tracks are required with a few more playing dynamics prevalent. How are the EQ's set ?

I nearly liked it until I saw the weird top horn plus the lower cutaway looks a bit extreme. Thomann has the price for the 4 string at £527, that means it's going to compete with Tanglewaters, Sterling by EBMM, G&L Tributes etc. Not sure if it'll be a big success based on the looks, but the tonal options should be pretty good.

Interesting, sounds a lot like the Overwater/Tanglewood team up. Are there any pics yet ?

Precision pickup is a split single coil near the neck, a Stingray has a humbucker near the bridge. i don't believe any amount of EQ wizardy can make either sound like the other.

Yeah, the Warwick adverts in BGM are the same too, full of people I have never heard of. Does this make me want to buy a Warwick ?! To be honest, I find any endorsing advertising off putting, i'd rather just some nice pics of the gear and some details of why the manufacturers think it's good. I've got a dep gig soon and in comparison to what i've read here - it seems to pay reasonably well. It's a covers band (indie) and the music I have to play is mostly not to my taste and also quite boring (I'll still give it 100% regardless) but there are a few songs in there i'm looking forward to. Not sure if I could do a similar thing (music i'm not keen on) in the long term unless I knew it was worth my while on the money side of things. Even if the music was exactly what I wanted i'd still need to do more than break even.

Amusing to me was a BGM article where a bass was reviewed by one of the brands endorsing players. Unsurprisingly not a bad word was said against it, nor a declaration of authors links to the brand.

Graphite necks have a different density and thus deadspots are not as prevalent as on wooden necked instruments. They probably do have them - just not at the frequencies you'll play on a bass.

Adding mass will move the deadspot rather than eliminating it. It's a pain..
