  1. Pretty much. I've got 5 unopened sets of LaBellas and GHS Flats here, which I'll keep for my great-grandchildren.
  2. As a flats user of 20 years or so, the chat has been pretty steady for the last decade, I reckon.
  3. Doesn't bother me at all.
  4. Curious to know... who established the 'Good technique' rules that we should try and adhere to?
  5. I hate it when people say that. ‘Cos I didn’t 😞
  6. Is that a generalisation based on a single bass? I’ve played some pre-CBS dogs, and own(ed) some CBS beauties. There are dogs and diamonds in every era.
  7. My hit rate with 70s Fenders has been similar to yours - in turn, comparable to any other era.
  8. Always makes me smile when people tar 70s Fenders with one big crappy brush, as if something deeply disturbing happened at the Fender plant on the stroke of midnight on Dec 31, 1969. Still, I guess it helps keep the prices down a little 😄
  9. Hey hey As per Leszek’s recommendation, I bought Electro Harmonix 12AX7’s from Watford Valves. Even though only one had failed, he told me swap them all out at the same time.
  10. The (mis)alignment of the stars is another reason to make me want to smash it to pieces.
  11. It can be hard trying vintage stuff out before you buy it. If you don't want to limit yourself, bear in mind if you buy wisely, and you do need to move it on, you won't take as much of a hit as if you bought new (same with any used stuff).
  12. Currently spotted selling on FB marketplace. I responded to ask him about one of his earlier transactions, and he immediately blocked me. Caveat emptor.
  13. The thought of putting it back together blows my mind. Glad it's not my job 😄
  14. You'll see them if you watch the video.
  15. Areet Genesis' old SSL desk is for sale, and it's a bit of a beast. Here's a video of it which I found fascinating, even though great swathes of it might as well be in Urdu as far as I'm concerned.
  16. ‘Michaelses’.
  17. I like to do that every now and then. It keeps me sane.
  18. My point exactly.
  19. ...as can buying brand new.
  20. Well, he suggested this thread was racist. Which, if it was, would outrage and offend me.
  21. What is the shortcoming you’re highlighting in this particular instance?
  22. I bloody love Limelightses. Nice one.
  23. It would be remiss of me not to post this.
  24. Every bass is the result of an infinitely variable combination of wood and wire, so the fact it's expensive and / or vintage doesn't really bring any guarantees as to the suitability for you, other than look and feel. What I do know is that if you buy a new one, and choose to sell it, you're going to lose a chunk of cash. If you buy an early 70s bass for a sensible price, that's less likely to be an issue.
