  1. Musiciams.
  2. There’a solos and solos. I’d quite happily listen to Geddy tear into the middle bit of Freewill. But someone noodling around all on their own? Nah.
  3. I don't listen to bass solos 'cos I find them boring, so I'm sure as hell not going to inflict one on the punters.
  4. Pedals? What is... pedals?
  5. More pics. You can really see how much the red has faded on the front compared to the back.
  6. Here's my trio of '71s.
  7. Lovely... and what an amp, too!
  8. It deserves a new audience, though.
  9. The Anthology is a work of art. It's a crime that it's not on Netflix etc.
  10. Same as mine (the one in the 'Reunited' thread). It's a fairly common occurrence.
  11. Well... there's a question. I suspect there's a cabinet reshuffle on the horizon.
  12. Flats 🙂
  13. Yeah, I'd agree with that - it's horses for courses. The bands I'm in generally have space in the mix for that rosewood 'bloom'. But then I have dep gigs where the maple would definitely be a better fit.
  14. Not an A/B, and not well recorded enough to offer a scientific comparison, but here you go. FWIW, I think the maple-ness of the B&W '71 is noticeable.
  15. Honestly, my heart fluttered when I opened the case. I remember the day before the buyer was due to pick it up, I emailed him to tell him I was having massive regrets, and couldn't go through with it. He understood, but then I felt so bad about it I went through with the sale. I realised I've been searching to fill the gap ever since, and for him to have to good grace to offer it back to me when I put the shout out for an early 70s P on BC a couple of weeks ago was a bit of surprise. I didn't even know he was on BC - I thought it was gone for good. Here's a vid of us happy together back in the glory days when I had a little bit of hair...
  16. I've just put flats on it, but I'll sort it over the next day or so 🙂
  17. The red's faded - the red is resplendent on the back and under the pickguard. My '71 fretless has done the same. Not quite sure why some aren't affected. It's a strange one!
  18. Hey gang So... about 20 years ago, I sold everything I had and bought a 1971 P from a chap in Indianapolis via eBay (back when it was financially not completely daft to do this kind of thing). I loved everything about it - the rich, deep sound, the chunky neck, the light weight... it became my right arm for the next 10+ years. We travelled the world. Like many marriages (but not mine, I must add), familiarity sank in, and I got a wandering eye for something from the 60s. So four years ago, in a moment of stupidity, I sold it. ....and immediately regretted it. After four years roaming the wilderness, howling at the moon, the buyer (Normski of this parish) got wind of my sorrow and offered it back to me. And for this I am INCREDIBLY grateful. It arrived yesterday, and as soon as I picked it up it was like having my right arm sewn back on. It's like no time has passed. Thanks, Norm.
  19. Ha ha... I'm very well versed in festival etiquette, thank you. I was referring to those gigs where the audience are already in the room when you arrive 🙂
  20. Hate, hate, hate doing it, but sometimes the only alternative is not to do the gig.
  21. I don't mind the occasional polite 'Could I have a little more / less guitar etc. in the monitors please?' between songs. But complaining? Nah.
  22. Just found a vid of it, and I stand corrected…
  23. Aye, that’s Neil huffing away on Old Black. It’s a bass-free zone at that point.
  24. Have we done Ray Shulman & Gentle Giant yet?
  25. I mentioned a while ago was part of a team working on a new music doc for BBC Four - well, here's the first trailer. It's fronted by Sam Fender, and also features the likes of Elvis Costello, Peter Gabriel, Sting & Mark Knopfler. It's on BBC Four on November 26th... I'd be chuffed if you set your videos and gave it a watch. Alan Hull was a fascinating guy, and you'll get to hear some sublime bass parts.
