1.
Oh for goodness sake folks - this is hardly rocket science. A small piece of effort here would go a long way to making things easier for a lot of us. Thread now almost 2 years old. A simple "yes we will do this in by dd/mmm/yyyy" or "no we can't do this because of technical reason xyz" is all the courtesy we ask for. CB
The site is optimised for mobile, and most browsing, posting, searching and messaging works fine. if you need to do something advanced, switch to desktop. I doubt the people who run this FREE resource are going to waste money reinventing the wheel.
 2. If you have the time and the inclination to learn to read, go for it. No harm in it. Despite what you may hear, you won't be condemned to a life playing Sex On Fire at the Dog'n'Duck without it. That said, if you want to do reading gigs, the answer is obvious.
 3.
That's really really good. I was a big fan of Lindisfarne when Meet Me On The Corner came out and for several years afterwards. The young man on guitar and vocals is doing a great job. Hope that you'll be coming darn sarf one day.
Cheers, Pete! I think we'll be doing more next year...
 4.
No, you're just too small. Actually, I know what you mean. It is, as you correctly say, very light. But somehow the positioning of the handles makes it an awkward lift. I actually find it easiest to carry it with one hand - but obviously that is only feasible over relatively short distances. Stairs are a real PITA... Pleased you like the sound though! All the frustration about size and shape disappears once it's plugged in and ready to go! And, not that you need it with your current outfits, but the volume it is capable of is just insane...
Ha! By 'too big' I mean it would take up too much room in the band van, and my music room. I don't mean it's too big for what it is, IYKWIM. It really does make a glorious sound - I'm thinking about the Super Twelve which might be a decent compromise. We'll see.
 5.
I'd have just turned the tweeters off.
First thing I tried, innit. That's what I've been doing. It's not the same, though - the tweeters are integral to the sound of the Bergs IME.
 6. Talkbass is huge, so in some ways the worse aspects seem a lot worse. Also, there are plenty of people on BC who are keen to dole out opinions on gear based on what they've read on Talkbass, or what someone down the pub told them. What I'm trying to say is that there are people on TB and the FDP, who are very, very knowledgeable about Fender through the years. You just have to ignore the guessers.
 7.
I don't use Talkbass very often, full of 'experts', who actually know very little. This is true, I actually had an exchange with someone once on there, who said my '56 Precision was clearly a Telecaster bass with a changed serial number plate, because it had the single coil pickup, and not the split coil.......really. It is quite bad on there!
To be fair, Rick - that happens on every forum. It's not unique to TB.
 8. Ah.. It's not often I'm caught out like that. Nice delivery, Jack - you got me hook, line and sinker. :-D
 9.
It's nice to see a company doing something different. I've wanted a bass like that one for a while but I just don't like Fender. Now that another company with such a long pedigree of instrument manufacturing is making a similar bass at such a low price point I'm sure they get lots of business.
This post makes no sense.
 10. Just listened to Biting Point - it's great. Is there a bit of early Rush vibe going on? I'll not critique the mix in any detail 'cos I'm on my laptop. but it sounds fine. Loads of energy. Did the guitarist mix it? I'll have a listen to the rest later. Well done.
 11. I don't think they'll be expecting to shift many.
 12.
I just think it's odd that Fender would do something like this, why not just use a proper example of a custom colour guitar in these colours, for shows, knowing they could sell them on afterwards. Unless it's just an example of Fender CBS Management scrimping to the extreme?
Probably just marketing. We're still talking about it 50 years later.
 13. Hi folks!
the obvious suggestion would be a Super 15 - basically the smaller framed 2x15 that replaced the Vintage because noone bought it for use with a tube amp anyway. Or two compacts for modularity
I didn't realise the 2x15 had been resized now. It's still a bit big for me, though - as is two Compacts. The Bergs I have are the perfect size, really.
If its the mids that you are after a super12 might be ideal. Plus much smaller than a vintage
I'm quite tempted by that, actually. I do like the idea of 2 x something smaller, though.
I bet that set up kills! Really tempted by WA and pairing it with a super15. If youre happy with the sound id go modular, 2 compacts or compact and a midget to add a bit more mid. What style of music do you play with this?
It does - the Walkabout really works well with it. Like, amazingly so. A Compact and a Midget might do it, but... they look so awkward together! As for the style of music... it's acoustic-based but still kicks a fair bit. Here's a song from an earlier night (not using the Vintage) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgffQn1ldkc
A Compact on a box should do it, don't need the massive sensitivity since you have power, height being the other advantage.
I wonder how two Midgets would compare to a Compact? The research continues...

 15. Here's a couple of clips from a show we've been doing recently... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HgffQn1ldkc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQ-46YU0nnM
 16. Hi all I'm doing a run of theatre gigs at the moment. I'm using a fretless P for half the set, and a fretted P for the other half, both strung with flats. With that kind of thing, the magic all goes on in the mids, My current cabs (Berg HS210s) are glorious, but I've never *loved* tweeters. Anyway, BC's own Conan kindly lent me his Barefaced Vintage. I used one before a while ago and I loved it, but I fancied another shot. Rolled it in to the gig last night, hooked my Walkabout up, and straight away that lovely middy clarity was there, with a much smoother top thanks to the lack of tweeters. There's still top, just not the zingy kind. I'm not that kind of guy. The fretless was especially glorious, with a huge, detailed growl. During the check I rolled a lot of the lows off because the FOH subs were carrying things, and I didn't want to muddy the stage up. Of course, the cab weighs virtually nothing, but it's too big. I need something smaller and more modular, with the same characteristics.... time to think.... (one the waiting list has come down, of course!)
 17. I saw the Fairports at Cambridge folk festival on Sky Arts a few months back, and it looked to me like he was using a little Ibanez Promethean combo... Incidentally, Maartin Allcock turned up at one of our gigs last weekend. Had a nice chat with him. He wants to buy my fretless, but he's not getting it. Lovely chap.
 18. Hi all Just heard from him:
Presently can't get into the workshop due to builders carrying out remedial work. Also stuff moved out into spare room means access to computer is limited. Can you let BCers know all we be finished by Wednesday when I'll be able to clear the backlog of jobs outstanding. Cheers, Horrid.
Hope this helps! Howard's a good friend, and a very decent chap - I'm sure he'll sort the backlog ASAP.
 19. Hmm... unusual for Howard. I've put the feelers out too.
 20. Ooh.. Hen's teeth!
 21.
There's a huge gap in the neck pocket on the E side..............
There's a gap (it's a Fender, after all), but I think the size of it is emphasised by the black binding.
 22.
It looks to me that he's just put Geddy's name in the listing because it's of a similar vintage. He doesn't actually say that the bass was owned by Geddy.
Yip..
 23. I got mine from eBay from some American fella wot made them. It's leather, with a fleecy underbelly - 10-ish years, still going strong.
 24.
...Specially when I can't even hear half of the notes coming through that mud.
It just goes to show that you can't please everyone! I think it's a shining example of a bass player wanting to fit in the mix, rather than punch through it or sit on top of it. I can hear all the notes just fine.
 25. What a lot of fun this band is.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQWq4nR02MA Bass face action REALLY kicks in at around 2:40 during the solo. He's got it goin' on.
