1. I owned mine in 1991, and it was a few years old then, so 1987 is a reasonable guess, I'd say...
2. What don't you like about the old bridge?
3. You'll need to post a price...
4. I've been through a lot over the years, and I've settled on Laklands. A great flatwound tone and feel, with clear mids and smooth highs. And they're cheaper than most, too.
5.
Our guitarist has a pointy Hamer that he has had rewired for allsorts of pickup combinations, wheres a leather jacket that he painted his own devil design on, loves 80's metal and anything pointy would you jam with him wateroftyne?
I would LOVE to!
6. Without referring to the 5-string thing specifically, there is another angle to this. If a guitarist auditioned for a band I was in and they turned up with, for example, I dunno.. one of those flowery Ibanezzzzes with a pointy headstock and a carry-handle, I'd probably pre-judge that person. And I'd probably come to the conclusion that, given the kind of music I'm into, we're probably not going to have a lot of common ground, musically speaking. And the chances are, I'll probably be right. Human nature, innit.
7. Yip - it's a Bass V. As played by John Paul Jones (briefly) amongst others. Jack Bruce noodled on one too, I think. Not very popular at the time.
8. The pub scene is full of 5's, but I'm guessing you're not moving in those circles...? As for the alt / originals scene, I can believe it.
9. Cheers, Dingus. Here's some terrible pics of the case & goodies, taken with my phone in murky light this afternoon. As soon as it dries up outside (March, I'm guessing) I'll take proper pics. In other news, thanks for all the trade offers. And... I'll now ship this in the UK at the buyer's expense.
10. I like Rog's playing. He plays to the song. Listen to something like WYWH - every note counts. (I'm fairly sure DG didn't play it..)
11.
New age electro ceilidh? That could be interesting.
Peatbog Faeries?
12. And that, my friend, is my dilemma...
13. It's worth bearing in mind that when you have both pickups switched to single-coil, what you have is a Jazz. The pickup locations match a 60s J perfectly. Setting them to various combinations of series and parallel gives you loads of tonal options, from a P-esque thump to an MM honk, and lots inbetween.
14. Cheers, WH. As they say 'round this neck of the woods - SURLD.
15.
Surprised and sorry to see this up for sale, beautiful bass that it is! Whoever buys it won't be disappointed I'm sure.. GLWTS!
Cheers, Nik. Here's an IV being played properly, by the man himself... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHHBl8cz7eY
16.
I PM'd three Basschatters who I thought would be able to give me a steer on the right choice (WaterOfTyne, Beedster, Clarky) and all three came straight back with LaBella FLs.
FWIW, I'm now running Lakland flats on everything. The La Bellas are awesome, and the Lakkies are a different flavour of awesome (and far cheaper, which helps ).
17. Here's an idea of how they sound in my Jazz, with ancient flatwound strings and a cab with no tweeter. Punch! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLrIsd2K8Hg
18. Google. Single account. Done.
19.
Hi Michael. How do these differ from the Antiquities Bud, I have a Jazzer sat at home feeling very sorry for itself at the moment,
Hey Pete! There's a bit more upper-mids (bark?) going on in the Fralins, and of course zero hum.
20.
Are these identical? I'd be up for one if they are. I'm thinking back pickup for a PJ too.
No - they're standard jazz, i.e. one longer than t'other.
21. I've had a few trade offers, but I really need the dosh. Thanks to everyone who's enquired.
22. Yip - I wanted one of these for years. It took me ages to find one. It's so versatile and well-built, but my J keeps looking at me with sad eyes whenever I post it up for sale. Forgot to mention - it comes with the original posh Fender case, and weight-wise the bass itself is on the medium side of medium. Not heavy at all.
23. It hurts to sell this. Rarer than hen's teeth - I doubt you'll find another sunburst in the UK. Custom shop quality. Info here. *withdrawn* including UK postage, complete with the factory fitted case, originally supplied bits (including a perspex ramp) and additional custom-made tort pickguard. This pic shows the only flaw in the bass which I've just noticed - a little bit of the plating is coming off one of the saddles. Purely cosmetic: Here's a clip of it with gruffy old flats on it. It SINGS with rounds.
24. I'm selling a matched set of Lindy Fralin split-Jazz pickups. Standard J-sized. Each pickup is contains two coils, so you'll be hum-free no matter what pickup balance you're using. £110 posted in the UK.
25. I agree - I just find one handle on the top to be a bit baffling.
