1. I think it's more of a wake-up call to shops to start setting basses up so they're vaguely playable before hanging them out on the wall. That way, if a bass is a dog, it's because it's a dog. Send it back. The internet is killing you all. Put some effort into it.
2.
Yes. I notice this particularly on the last few Rush albums. i find them almost unlistenable at times.
Ah, tell me about it. Everyone going on about how Clockwork Angels is a return to sonic form. No it isn't! Listen to it! It's terrible! *hyperventilates*
3. Haven't read the thread, but I'd just like to say that it's the mastering that's boils my p*ss. It's all mastered for tin-pot car speakers or earphones bought from a market stall. It's like listening to wallpaper.
4. OMG. How hot is this?
5. Nope.
6. Direct from Lakland. Works out about 21 quid shipped - they arrive in a week or so..
7. A lot of people get into fretless for the Pino / Jaco thing. Not me (although it is very nice). I just love the sound a fretless Precision makes. Uprighty, growly, with sustain... yum.
8. If I had a grand - and a few more quid for a refin - knocking about, and the chance to inspect it on collection, I would have loved that for a project.
9. Nowt wrong with the BBOT.
10. 80s US Fender with a few tweaks. Nowt to be suspicious about.
11. Hi John! Thanks for the offer, but no thanks. :-) Lots of trade interest so far, but nothing ringing my bell...
12. Unvelievable. *shakes fist at Ibanez*
13.
I pretty much stuck to the both p/ups on, in series sound as favoured by the man himself, marvellous. Hard to believe this hasn't been snapped up yet. Maybe fate is trying to tell you something WOT
Yep - it's a glorious noise! If it doesn't sell, I'm just try and cope with the guilt of having more basses than I need, and just enjoy gazing at it and gigging it.
14.
Another thing, which I might not have experienced as I was usually using practice room cabs, (quite large ones) is that the power of the Streamliner was causing your cabs to start to compress as they couldn't take the full whack, which is totally understandable for any 2x10.
It's not an issue with the cabs. I think it's more a power management thing - the architecture just doesn't ring my bell. Bear in mind I had about 100 gigs over a period of a year to refine it and 'get used' to it, and a similar amount with the wretched (IMO) TC. The Streamliner was marginally more successful. It's a matter of taste, innit.
15. Bumped with price reduction...
16.
I really like a tight low end. I'm not into boomy bass tones. I can't see, unless it bass specific, where the issue is with the bass control on the Streamliner. Simply roll it back to about 10 o'clock. Done. Mids at 1/2, done. That's pretty much flat. Plenty of scope to boost the mids to crazy amounts. The 'everything at 12' that Markbass seemed to make popular isn't really any different. I found that the low control on the LM3 was at too low a freq really, and the low mid wasn't setup for the 'meat' area of low mids. It might be bass specific. None of my cabs seem to have a mid dip from my playing before having the Streamliner.
My main problem with the Streamliner was how it holds together. I could hear it, but like the TC RH450 (albeit not as severely) at volume it seemed to lose its shape. Something to do with the power management, maybe? I spent a year on it, tweaking it at every gig. All boooooom, and no b*****ks. In the meantime, plenty of other owners were posting about how much they liked it, so I just decided it wasn't to my taste. I'm back in the bosom of the Walkabout, which (in brochure-speak, at least) has nowhere near the output, but holds itself together with such steely resolve I don't have to be loud to be felt and heard.
17. Welcome aboard, kidda...
18.
'Scooped' is not a word I'd use to describe my Streamliner. Maybe using it through the BF cabs makes the difference.
The HS210s I run are very even across the middle, and I could hear it. That said, I liked it far more than the other lightweights I've used.
19.
Is that five transactions of a single set each time, or one transaction of five sets? I think sometimes you are more likely to get charged if the package is more bulky.... what are the postage charges like Michael and do you buy them direct from Lakland themselves?
Five separate sets... about £21 a pop, inc. postage.
20. I
Assuming you don't get hit for inport duties/customs charges etc...
I've bought five sets so far - not a peep on any of 'em...
21. Hi all A few of you might have heard me extolling the virtues of Lakland flatwound strings over the last year or so. I've switched all my basses to them from the La Bellas, which we know are great strings. The Laklands are easily up there with them, and a bit more going on in the mids - with the added benefit that they're far cheaper than the La Bellas when you order them direct from Lakland in the US. Anyway, on Christmas Eve I strung up my P, and I noticed the 'A' was a bit dull compared to the rest of the set. I emailed them to explain, and on the 27th, I got an apologetic email from a chap called Brian. A replacement 'A' string arrived from Chicago this morning. I've stuck it on the bass, and it's perfect. So there you go - not only are they great strings, but they'll look after you if something ain't right.
22.
I'd never heard of the guy until today. Is he famous for making the worlds best elevator music?
Define 'best'....
23.
I found it via a YouTube clip on Google. Sorry I haven't uploaded it - I don't want to be held responsible for any side effects you might experience.
He's right, you know - it nearly made me vomit.
24. Post some pics and we'll have a go at verifying it for you. What colour is the pickguard? Does it have a thumbrest / holes? if so, where? What's the wiring like? Any codes on the pots? Anything written / stamped under the pickups? On the heel of the neck? In the neck pocket in the body? What do the tuners look like? Is the truss rod adjustment at the headstock or the body? ,...etc.
25. I couldn't get a sound I liked with the Streamliner. Too big down low, to unfocusedd in the mids.
