1. JPJ has repeatedly stated he used rounds back in the early days of Zeppelin. I reckon he's mistaken. :-)
  2. Bizarre! I'm not sure if it could be relevant, but there's a common-ish problem with Walkabouts which results in the signal dropping out - the FX loop jacks oxidise over. Shoving jacks in and out of the send and return a few times to clear them solves it. Maybe give it a shot?
  3. Hi all I did a dep with The Junco Partners last night, who are Newcastle's R'n'B godfathers. They've been around since the 60s, and even backed Howlin' Wolf on a tour. So.. it was quite a privilege to play with them.. and a lot of fun. Here's a tune... Precision, flats and a Mesa Walkabout. I wouldn't use a Promethean for rehearsing with a loud metal band - or any small combo, for that matter.
  5.
What's the difference between a tribute band and another production of Macbeth ?
If you were to ask Bilbo, I'm sure the reply would be: A: One is a bloody tragedy, the other is a play by Shakespeare.
  6.
I don't think anyone is suggesting force feeding any art form to people. All we suggest is that leaving things to market forces seems to result in everyone looking to the common denominator and everything getting blander and blander (like cable/satelite TV - 800+ channels of fluff rather than infinite variation). I know so many people who aren't catered for by mainstream arts/entertainment provision because everyone is trying to corner the same section of the market; namely young people out on the piss trying to get laid.
Popular music is over 100 years old, Bilbo. Music with artistic integrity hasn't been snuffed out in that time, and I doubt it ever will be. Stop stressing about it - your tide pool is safe.
  7. Ibanez Promethean.
  8.
"your sociopolitical stance has made me question the way I live my life" - too earnest for me and just a little bit scary.
Yes indeed.
  9.
tis a sad world where image out weighs talent
I see what you did there. *does nose / pointy thing*
  10. I've played weddings with three of my previous originals bands. If the bride and groom are fans, and it makes them happy, then... why not. Back to the wider discussion - a good song is a good song. As a bass player, I couldn't care less who wrote it.
  11.
PS none of this actually matters
Yip.

Yep - there does seem to be a few failures. I had a problem with my Promethean (the original model)- the input jack went a bit wiggly causing to it to cut out. A tech sorted it for a few quid, putting a better jack in to stop it happening again. It's been fine ever since. I can understand why people are reluctant to take a punt on them, but I'd encourage people to try. They're amazing little things.
  13. Also, if you're on Facebook, search for 'North East Bass Bin' and pop a post in there.
  14.
Neil Young... is a dreadful guitarist and his singing isn't much better.. Dylan is also a dreadful guitarist who can't sing
I strongly disagree. (Bob Dylan sometimes *chooses* not to sing, but he can)
  15.
The only lesson here is that watts mean nothing.
...unless you're a marketing department.
  16. I have all three - my personal page, a group (for a bass discussion group) and band pages one, two and three. The key difference that I can see between group and page is - with a page, you can post as the page, creating a persona for your band. I prefer it this way...
  17.
If your ears are telling you that an amp is loud enough then who cares what the spec sheet says.
This is true, but of course it's only useful if you can physically try before you buy. It would also be nice to be able to guage how much of the 'loudness' is achieved via clever compression & signal processing.
  18.
I think the TC 450's turned out to be 256 watts the 750's quite a bit more. Thats why I wondered about the modules as someone would of made that link earlier.
No - I think the 750 still came in at under 300w.
  19. Actually, I'm getting my wires crossed. I don't think the TC uses the B&O module. The RH750 is 267w, I think...?
  20.
still sounds wrong IMO, where are the resident experts when you need them...........
The chap who tested my amp is an expert if that helps. Not being able to remember the figures he quoted to the exact watt is my fault.
  21. Actually, it might have been 320w at 4ohm and 130w at 8ohm. The figures were around about that, though.
  22. Assuming it's Neil Peart being referred to in a previous post, his net worth is pretty much the same as Alex and Geddy's.
  23. Whilst I have genuine sympathy for the OP (being a bigger-boned chap myself), I'm surprised at some of the responses here. Assuming the band are a bunch of ambitious young'uns, and assuming the label have a bit of clout and know what they're doing, (a big 'if', I know), you can hardly blame them for wanting a crack at the big time, however misguided it may or may not be.
