1. I'm not impressed with class D, or the shenanighans used to inflate their power ratings. Back to the Walkabout for me. 300 hairy-arsed man-watts. None of these 'diet watts'...
2. I've got a copy of the schematic if you'd like it. I intended to do the mod, but the reality is I've never had a problem with it. I just let the techies know that it's post-everything, so if my signal jumps, at least they know why. Sound people can handle this kind of thing....
3. Excellent! My dad has a room full of old H||H stuff... he still has the Dual Concentric PA cabs that we used to gig with when we were kids...
4. I reckon the fact they didn't take off is quite telling..
5. Me too... It's Under African Skies. Wanted to see this for yonks. Thanks!
6.
Just ordered some Lakland Flats on your recommendation. No pressure, obviously.
Ha! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
7. IME the Laklands are as smooth as the La Bella FLs, with a little bit more going on in the upper mids. The Chromes were, IMO, stiffer and brighter altogether.
8.
What do you intend to use it for? "Acoustic" gigs? Noodling at home? Something else?
Yeah - I'd be intrigued to know, too. Then again, I've never quite seen the point of acoustic basses.
9. Lovely, lovely heads these. 300w might not seem a lot these days, but in this faddy environment of inflated micro-amp wattages, it's worth pointing out that these are 300 hairy-arsed Mesa 'man watts'. I regularly run mine at 8ohm, putting 150 hairy-arsed Mesa 'man-watts' into a 2x10, and I've never struggled for volume. Have a bump.
10. Or, you can buy the mp3 online for about 60p.
11. As an aside, that's him (and Mick Fleetwood) on Werewolves of London, too. Zevon recorded it with various rhythm sections - including his regular guys - with no joy. McVie and Fleetwood nailed it.
12.
Great minds think alike 'n' all. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/180272-fender-jazz-hollow-body-gas-jap/
Whoops - my bad. Mods, feel free to merge....
13. How odd. More info here (in Japanese, obv.)
14. Here you are. Don't worry that you're buying from the US - they arrive in about a week, and you don't have to pay any duty.
15.
Or does anyone have flats for sale or know where I could get them dirt cheap?
How cheap is dirt cheap? You can get Lakland flats for about £22, and they're great.
16.
Nothing to do with Kindle - but I think there's something strange about the members list, every time I've used Personal Message, if I then click on the 'View New Content' button it always takes me to the Members List, latest members, until I click View New Content a second time. That's on my PC, Chrome, Windows XP & Laptop with Vista.
That's by design, innit. Do you see the tabs at the top? Forums, Members, Calendar, Shop, etc.? The 'View new content' button shows you the new content for whichever of the tabs you're in at the time. Personal messages are (rightly or wrongly) part of the 'Members' tab, so when you press the 'View new content' button when you're in PMs, it shows you new member activity. Similarly, if you press it in 'Calendar', you'll see new calendar activity. I'm just clarifying how it's designed to work - I'm not saying I like it.
17. Done a few.. some were bearable, some were horrid. As mentioned above, LOTS of waiting around.
18.
There's a '72 there as well if you need a reference for one with a maple neck
How I miss it... '73 is getting towards a transitional time, which is why you might find a few with black guards.
19. Watched a bit of Lee's set with Steve Hackett at the IoW festival on telly last night. Typically mad Hackett. Dunno who's idea it was to book him - the field looked pretty sparsely populated...!

Low morale?

IMO... it's partly due to people being over-sensitive. Mountains, molehills, etc.
21.
Thought it was only the Vapor Trails songs that were remixed for Retrospective III?
Fay Cry? One Little Victory, I mean. I had a late night last night...
22. As a bit of an aside... I know it's been mentioned before, but I've just picked up the remixed (not just remastered) 'Far Cry' from Retrospective 3. Alex and Rich Chycki really took the original mix apart and rebuilt the song so it sounds like a punchy power trio. The transformation is incredible. Well worth 70p or whatever from Amazon... Nice to see what they can do without Nick Raskuliniczceuliniczezecz layering the life out of everything...
23.
Flats? hate 'em. naa, buy a house. Sorry, cant be doing with them. I like a long note that I can mute myself, when I've had enough of it, not a shortish note sonic "thud" but then its only what I think ( and I know nowt!) its a prefered style thing really. well you did ask!
IME flats don't thud unless you want them to, and they have plenty of sustain. what kInd have you tried?
24. I prefer this one. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XsYuHbXZUk
25.
That screams Gibson to me.
Yip - It was probably Seth Lover's pet project. He was responsible for the 'bucker Tele, too.
