1. Ont he subject of Talking Heads, I nominate this marvellous piece of minimalism: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=StoXNhrT_7M (Sorry about the crappy version. YouTube have pulled the decent ones)
 2. Lovely. That's a very heavy sunburst, isn't it?
 3. This thread is another worrying indication that music isn't worth anything anymore.
 4.
As I understand it, PAT testing is only about rudimentary earthing and physical cable condition. It's perfectly possible for PAT testing to pass a piece of equipment that is so poorly designed that it would burst into flames within five minutes of being turned on.
Yip. It's a bureaucratic box-ticking exercise being exploited by some to squeeze a few quid out of people who don't know any better.
 5.
Ah thanks - now I think I understand. The poster wanted to appear funny by regurgitating said folklore? CB
Ah, loosen up, man. Just because you didn't find it was funny, doesn't mean other people didn't.
 6.
And surely the number of components is the least relevant concern to most of us when buying an amp, or anything else for that matter. Unless of course the afore mentioned axe grinding comes into play.
I disagree. I think it added to the cynical way it was marketed. ("You want your top-end back? £200, please!'). Like I say, I don't think they did themselves any favours. Disappointing for a brand as strong as TC.
 7.
Dedicated compressor control - no longer hidden in the shift layer More power (obviously) Improved top end without the build in LPF.
I know about the features, but I was asking about what, physically, you're paying for. Surely it shouldn't cost more money to remove an LPF?
 8.
The cost and price point of the product wasn't part of the issue and as always is down to what the manufacturer decides the market will support.
..and I think you'll find a few RH750 owners were a bit miffed when they found out they were paying a lot more for minimal component changes.
 9.
You like a product or you don't, end of story, but axe grinding, trolling and general wind-ups was exactly what was going on in TB at that time.
I can't help thinking they brought that on themselves. Once I found out what was going on under the bonnet, how I felt about the amp based on my experience made perfect sense.
 10.
BG didn't start the fuss. A bunch of Talkbass users, seemingly with an axe to grind, made all the noise. The fuss about the power module was laughable, but one good thing came out. The RH750 can run at 2.7 ohms which means that you can run 3 of anyone's cabs. If you want to run a modular rig, (as I did, up to 3 x 112’s) that's a big advantage. The RH750 is as loud as any 750 watt amp on the market so the internal workings are irrelevant. I had one and it was very loud and with good features. I only sold it to fund my Thunderfunk. As with amps of any make the bottom line is are they loud enough and do you like their tone.
I don't think 'axe griders' is a fair description. I think it was a bit of a push for manufacturers to be a bit more honest with their ratings in a way that, say, EBS are. It's also worth noting that that RH750 costs over £200 more than the RH450. You have to ask yourself what exactly you're paying the extra for.
 11.
Yum indeed. Wrong colour for you, Michael.
Well, I am a Newcastle lad...
 12.
I'm not sure you're talking about the same song. New York Minute by Don Henley from the album Building The Perfect Beast, has Bob Glaub, Larry Klein and Pino credited on bass. I don't have the track listing to hand, but it certainly sounds like Pino's fretless playing to me.
It's a joke, I think...
 13. Nice! It's 'Antigua', by the way...
 14. I quite... errr... liked it. It was a shame it was abused.
 15. Whey aye. Feel free to stick your own strings on it. It's got some rounds on at the mo, but they're quite light. It's all I had lying around...
 16. Come and get it - give it a run oot :-)
 17. I finally got around to using the 115 in anger last night. I've avoided it so far because my 2x112's sound so good, it was hard motivating myself to try anything else. But, I had a full car last night so space was tight. I had no PA support, and the venue was a large, busy pub, so I know I needed something more than a single 12 could put out. The 115 takes less room than both the 12's, so into the boot it went. I was a bit nervy, 'cos the Walkabout only puts out around 175w into 8ohm, but I had no problems whatsoever. The 15 seems to be very efficient, and it began to roar as soon as I hit the 'bite' point on the output gain knob. Immediately bigger lows than the 12's, but still very tight. I dialled a little bit of horn in - not much 'cos I don't really like 'em - and all the notes were clear, supportive and distinct in a P-with-flats kind of way. It responded with a growl when I dug in. I was actually amazed - I had a wander out front during the soundcheck and it carried very well. We're not a loud band, but I get the feeling it would have kept on giving. Tommy says this cab will pretty much handle whatever's put into it. It's obviously far louder and bigger-sounding than a single 12. I could quite happily use this as my main cab had I not already discovered the - IMO - tonal nirvana of a pair of tweeterless TKS 12's. The horn on the 15 is a roundwound thing, and I imagine it punches and rings with clarity. It goes without saying that it's light, and can be carried short distances with one hand. The handles are perfectly placed for a two-hand lift. In fact, I'm now considering getting one of these for situations like this, where space is fairly tight and I need a big sound. We'll see...
 18.
On stage, we were very loud, overshadowing the singer.
That's part of your problem right there. Some rooms are just terrible, and there's not a great deal you can do about it. You have to grin and bear them. Keeping the stage volume down, and letting the PA do the work will help.
 19. Yeah... this is pretty much my dream bass. Unfortunately, although it's not at all heavy, my back is being a PITA and is demanding something unusually light. Whoever buys this will have to deal with my jealous glare for the rest of time.
 20. Cheers, Chris! Yours is a stunner - if I didn't have my '71 fretless I would have taken you up on your offer. While I'm on, here's a clip from a couple of weeks ago. Using flats, with the neck pickup solo'd in series for big, fat notes. This is just one of the sounds... it also does classic 60s J, back pickup burp and sizzly slap. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zRZt8AeR974
 21.

You're missing a bit from one of the tuners, mind...
