1.
Looks a lot like a Barefaced handle. I can feel the haters coming to bash the handle placement.
Maybe they're waiting to see if any handles fail. FWIW, mine's still in excellent nick a year on. Mind you, the cab weighs nowt.
 2.
I'll get back to you. WoT might be better placed to answer in the meantime? These are the first cabs I've had without tweeters for a while, but I'd gradually been turning them down and then off. My initial reaction is, I'm not going to miss them. The mids and highs are so nice and musical, I think the cabs are going to work wonderfully in a band. The higher notes already really sing without the tweeter.
Well...there's a place for tweeters, and they're really a part of some people's sound, but personally speaking I don't miss them one jot. Even on all the Berg cabs I've owned, I just found them clacky. And when I rolled the tweeters back, I always felt I was left with lows and no clarity. The TKS's have upper mids which seem to let the character of the bass bloom, without any fizz. If you need more, pushing the upper mids and highs on the amp gives you more clarity, with all the brittle unpleasantness rolled off in a really natural way. It's a godsend for flats, 'cos it leaves that 'woodiness' intact, and with rounds I can get a growl which sits perfectly in the mix without any harshness. Here's a couple of clips which I think / hope illustrate the point. The first two involve my S212, which sounds just like my pair of S112s did. Jump to 1m30s on this for the nearest I'll ever get to slapping. Which is really nothing of the sort, but... Hope this helps...
 3. Just having another look there - that cloth is lovely..
 4.
i quite agrre but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some of thise TKS cabs look great, while the slant fronted ones look like my old Dansette record player. One piece of retro I don't want to see again. However if they sound better than anything else I would buy them. Of course other eyes and ears are available.
Thankfully Tommy will build black boxes (or something funkier with a plain black grille) if that's what you prefer - it'll cost less, too.
 5. Stunning... welcome to the club! The mids and highs on these things are a joy to behold. Running one on its own sounds fantastic, but running the two of them is like an exponential increase in awesomeness.
 6. ...and here's another from out gig at Cluny2 in Newcastle last night. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vApFNecOL0I (and yes, before someone points it out - there is a brief 'moment' where I completely forgot who I was and what I was supposed to be doing. ha ha).
 7.
Yeah I understand what you are saying but what I'm saying is, you are unlikely to be asked to play in a band at a high end gig using just music notes. Even the best musicians like rehearsal. Some musicians can and do, improvise on the spot and do a great job. Alls im saying is reading music, whilst it undoubtedly helps, is not the be all and end all if the musician is good enough and has a reputation that precedes him/ her, then top end gigs are available if you move in the right circles
No-one is arguing with that. But the types of gig we're referring to in our little tangent is the likes of theatre and cruise ships, where the ability to read is pretty much expected for the reasons skej21 just mentioned. If you're a busker / ear-learner, you're probably not going to fit.
 8.
No, he said you can't get these gigs if you can't read music
It's fair to say that's not the norm, though. If a bandleader is expecting to hear the dep bassist play a specific part, the dep is going to struggle without dots.
 9.
You quoted me but clearly didn't read my post. My girlfriends brother gets MANY really high end gigs just because people know he is amazing. He has turned down the chance to be a pro on so many occasions. He just likes his family life too much to make the leap. He is well known in the right circles and people never ask him, can you read music? He can get a tune out of any stringed instrument with absolutely no formal training whatsoever. So, I reiterate, if you are good enough, you don't need to read music!
I think you quoted peteb but didn't read his post, either. He seems to be broadly agreeing with you...
 10.
OK, I'll rephrase it, if you're in any way shape or form, half serious about playing for a living, then you need both
OK, add 'as a session musician' in there and we have a deal :-)
 11.
Neither did I.....but I get them because I can do both.
12.
But you'll never get offered those gigs if you can't do both.
But I don't want to do theatre or cruise ship work. Therefore I don't need both.
 13.
You need both, simple as that.
You don't 'need' both unless you're likely to do a gig where it's essential that you read.
 14. It's all I do...
 15. Seems legit.
 16.
that does look good price wise.... anyone know who makes the drivers TKS use?
Eminence.
 17.
I can honestly say that in 50 years of gigging no one has ever commented on the look of my cabs and I've owned quite a few in that time.
In 20 years of gigging, it hasn't really happened to me before, so it surprised me, too. It's a nice thing to hear.
 18.
And can move as much air as two S112s, going by both makers published specs. Whether you like 'em or not, people do buy them for a reason other than fanboi-ism or forum hype.
Yep - tonal preference aside, a BF cab will undoubtedly go louder than the equivalent TKS (and I'm guessing Berg).
 19.
Barefaced fanbois are SO last year. 2014 is the year of the TKS fanboi (or whatever is the Swedish for fanboi). Do try to keep up.
Guilty as charged :-)
 20.
I didn't realise how much cheaper the TKS cabs were. I had to go back and make sure I'd done the conversion right.
Less than £40 to ship a big cab, too. From Sweden. Where a pint of beer costs a million quid.* *Ok, so I do make stuff up sometimes.
 21.
Really? I mean, really? You actually get people come up to you after (or maybe during) gigs and say: "Wow! Your bass cab looks mighty sexy boy!" You've been gigging a lot longer than I have, Michael, and at a noticeably higher level, but I'm still amazed to read that. How often does it happen?
Yip - I don't make stuff up for the fun of it, believe me. I've done deps with three or four different bands recently, and at every one, at least one member of the band has said something along the lines of 'whoah, that's nice' etc., etc. And a bloke came up to me after one gig and said how nice he thought it looked. He may have been a muso, I dunno. And do you know why I think this has happened? Black box syndrome. It's been a scourge in bass-land for years now. Guitarists get lovely boutique amps, drummers get cool-looking kits... bass players get black boxes. Well, sod that.
 22.
Once again I fail to understand the vitriol aimed at Barefaced products!
I'm really not seeing any 'bitter criticism or malice'. It's been suggested a couple of times in the thread that Barefaced were in a field of their own weight-wise and tonally. I just see people politely pointing out that that's not necessarily true.
 23.
A good friend of mine is of the same opinion, he changed the rear tyre on his Harley for a different brand long before it was worn simply because the other one looked better. To me, the cab is simply a tool, it's just a black box that sits at the back of the stage and makes me sound better than I am.
Mine is a lovingly-crafted statue of cool that makes my heart flutter whenever I look at it or hear it, and also draws comments on looks and sound. We're both happy with what we have. It's all good!
 24.
Leave the price tag on? Seriously, does it need to look like it cost 800 quid to impress people, or to help you in justifying the outlay to yourself? I'm not having a go, but I never even considered the appearance of my Super Twin when I bought it (and still don't). Sound, weight and being able to fit in the boot of my Astra with the amp next to it were and are the only considerations for me.
And you are to be applauded. I like stuff to look pretty - it's in my nature. It also shows that the builder takes pride in it, too.
 25.
Are people really this concerned about the appearance of a speaker cabinet? It is a piece of equipment that in use will be hidden in the dark behind the player where no one in the audience is likely to notice it.
For an 800 quid cab? I'd want it to look like it cost 800 quid, for a start.
