1. I'm familiar with all the players on this recording, and it's awesome.* *Not really. Never heard of 'em, and it's dreadful.
2. TBH, given most people's listening habits nowadays,I think dynamic range is a bigger issue then bitrate. You could be listening to a lossless recording through £30K's worth of boutique audio, but if the mix is standard 2014 fayre, it's going to sound like junk.
3.
I'll admit that I haven't actually played a Limelight bass yet...
You're welcome to give mine a run out if you like, just to get another opinion on it...
4. Really, we should be grateful stuff like this is out there. It should encourage Fender to raise their game. You'd think.
5.
Some suggest they are ?
They used to, but I think Mark very has sensibly decided to leave it up to the buyer.
6.
The thread was not particularly about Limelight,
Oh - which mainly counterfeit or snide mock up Fender basses that people are prepared to pay nearly a thousand pounds for were you referring to in the OP?
7.
Whatever they are, if they're doing the job you want them to do and look the part then who cares.
Yup.
8. For me it's all about the loudness war, and recording stuff on laptops in people's bedrooms. The latter doesn't always apply. There's a heap of big-budget stuff out there ruined by the former.
9.
Relicing/ageing/distressing is about feel and function as much as about looks.
Yup. The point of reference for me is my '71 Precision. I've played any number of basses, and liked them, but as soon as I picked up the Limelight it felt like my '71. In a sense, whether it fools anyone else or not, it fools me. As for the whole Fender logo thing, AFAIK no puppies or kittens have drowned as a result of it. People who get their knickers in a twist about it should maybe divert their energies elsewhere. World peace, or something.
10. Your attachment isn't working...
11. Lovely sounding & playing basses, well worth the money, and they look beautiful... if you're into that kind of look. FWIW, I'd consider myself an older player. It's nowt to do with our ages, and all to do with people liking what they like. It's as simple as that, really.
12. It's 42mm at the nut....
13.
Aren't the very same pics with a different name? Can't see any differences. http://basschat.co.u...51#entry2633751
You need to look harder :-)
14. ^^^ that one is awesome, as is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mrb4GwhWRkU
15. Yup.. Inca Silver. Lovely. I had a super-rare Inca Silver '57RI P. I should never have sold it.
16.
Just for clarification - you say it is a P profile neck. For a '63 copy, I think I'm right in saying to most of us this would mean 1.75" nut width (44.5mm) though you mention in your NBD thread that the nut width is 40mm...?
Sorry, yes - it's the same as my '71, which IIRC is 40mm. I'll re-measure and confirm tonight. EDIT: I checked and its 42mm.
17. Hello! Limelight's own... whatever they are. They sound marvellous...
18. You don't see too many of these around these days. I can't believe they're 21 years old..!
19. Twins are deafening. New amp time.
20. I can't get past the drummer... sorry.
21.
Interesting bass. Do you find the thicker neck give this jazz a heavier sound? I love jazz basses but suspect that the thinner the neck, the weedier the tone?
Cheers, all. This is undoubtedly fatter than any other J I've had. Whether the neck is a factor in that or not, I don't know. Maybe it could be?
22. The Sean Hurleys are nice. I wish they'd release a retrofit mute.
23. 'Tis for sale... anyone got a Limelight P to trade?

25. Hey gang I'm selling my Limelight '63 Jazz medium relic. Here's the NBD thread. I love this bass so much I'm going to order a Limelight Precision (unless an interesting P trade offer comes up!) but I need funds to do so, hence the sale. It was built in December 2012, and I'm the second owner. It's the perfect weight and balance, IMO - probaby around 8.5lbs. It has a Precision profile neck, which almost exactly mirrors my treasured '71 Precision. For some reason the previous owner removed the marker-pen Limelight signature from the back (Mark has confirmed it's #001100) - which is a shame - and, bizarrely - the 'offset body' logo from the headstock. Dunno why. It sounds incredible - the pickups are so punchy. The neck pickup is massive. I've got a load of soundclips, so I'll post what I can. I don't want to post at the moment, what with it being nearly Christmas and that. Collection from Whitley Bay-ish, or I could meet somewhere not too far. Price includes covers and original Hiscox case.
