Yup.
I really liked the Zombies but never quite got Argent - even though that song was written by Rod Argent and Chris White (nice bassist) from the Zombies.

Would that be Jim Rodford?
But your test wouldn't address this issue because a P and a J are made of the same woods so of course it's going to sound really similar! And the pickups aren't really all that different either...
But the pickups are different enough - one humcancelling split-coil versus a pair of single-coils - to make the difference in sound. -
Single most important thing you've been taught?
EssentialTension replied to theosd's topic in General Discussion
It was mid-1980s and I had hardly played for about two years. I got talking to a saxophonist. I said 'I used to be a musician.' He said 'Do you still have your instrument?' I said 'Yes.' He said 'Man, you're still a musician, you just ain't getting any better.' -

Anyone else mount strap button on lower horn?
EssentialTension replied to topo morto's topic in General Discussion
It sounds like you're holding the bass wrong. The "fix" you've employed is only going to cause additional problems down the line. Strap your bass on, and sit down with it sitting on your right leg. The headstock should be at shoulder level. Stand up... the bass should not move. The headstock should still be at shoulder level.
+1 on that method. -

I've got a pre-Ernie Ball Music Man leather strap that I've had since 1981 and it's still going strong.

Anyone else mount strap button on lower horn?
EssentialTension replied to topo morto's topic in General Discussion
I'd agree that you need to sort out the length of your strap and the way the bass sits on your shoulder in order to improve your hand position. I think putting the strap button on the lower horn is going to make the position of the bass unstable and you're going to be holding it up. -
The original Beatles bass
EssentialTension replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Nope - the Sutcliffe bass had the original Bakelite pickups. Here's mine: That one on eBay is from a year or so later, when they introduced the Toaster pickup. Close, but no cigar.
Very nice looker. -
I guess we're in the wrong forum for this kind of discussion, but just playing it through my RH450/RS210 at home (sorry neighbours, but gigging it this Saturday), it's Fat - really needs more "f"s! Ffffat! I'm loving the humbucker option - will have to see how well that cuts through though...
Even the single-coils are Fffat although maybe not as Ffffat as the humbuckers.

Great film. Thanks. There's an interesting discussion of this film at the TDPRI. Some argument that the film must be earlier than 1959, possibly 1957, due to the appearance of a Jazzmaster prototype. And a claim that this: is Freddie Tavares playing said Jazzmaster prototype.
