1.
If you cant turn up to a gig with instruments, amps and cables you are not a band.
Thing is, in many gigging scenarios gear sharing is expected and, often, necessary. The trick is just to make sure that everyone 1) knows in advance of the gig that gear will be shared and 2) is on the same page when it comes to how that gear should be treated and used. I deeply sympathise with the OP but I personally wouldn't have leant out an amp that had too much power for the cab. Just too risky. As for what can be done now, I'd politely contact the band and hope they do the right thing. Failing that, I'd maybe publicise something via social media (although not making a massive deal out of it) and then chalk it up to experience.
 2. Cor, that looks tasty. Nice work.
 3. The nile rodgers one is fantastic.
 4.
Interestesingly my current guitarist's long time guitar hero is Nile, and he does that feel particularly well. He's never been too bothered by playing lead, and has spent years really getting into rhythm guitar. It certainly shows!
Nile can do a mean solo too, when the mood takes him. When I saw him during the summer it was just him and a guitar and he did a couple of fairly extended solos. He's insanely talented.
 5.
GHS Pressurewounds are a wonderful string. Well worth a try.
I'm really itching to properly try some pressurewounds. I put some on my BB414 but the truss rod is stuck and now I have fretbuzz so its not a fair test. My Yamaha TRB is too long a scale length for the GHS ones, so I've ordered some Ken Smith Compressores which I'm reliably told are essentially the same strings. Since I had a relative working in the states over the last few months I put together a massive strings order which he's bringing home to me, problem is that I've got impatient waiting now....
 6.
My bet is its the rhythm guitar, why? Because in twenty years I've only met two really superb funk/disco rhythm guitarists, and about a hundred who think they can do either but cant.
I think I've only ever met one superb funk-disco guitarist. Having said that, he's not too shabby at all. Goes by the name of Nile Rodgers. ....sorry, I just had to do that. I still break into a huge grin when I remember that I have shaken his hand
 7. Well at 50% off they didn't last long, did they!
 8. I see that the Korg Pitchblack tuner is in the upcoming "Amazon Black Friday" lightning sales today. Starts at 1915 this evening and if the other deals are anything to go by it won't last long. Don't know what the discount will be but I would have thought at least 20% Go to the Amazon homepage, click on the "black friday" link and then you can see the upcoming deals.
 9. Great stuff. I went to lessons with Jen for a while, she taught me loads. She clearly loves what she does.
 10.
I'm guessing no-one here was a regular on Musicradar because it was neither polarised, a niche, or filled with kids. A few annoying gear sharks, but that's about it. Excellent marketplace. It was really successful imo. I got just as much good advice and just as much good gear over there as I get here. (ie none you useless bastards lololols Just kidding you guys are ok)
I was on Musicradar---and I'm on its replacement www.thefretboard.co.uk too. MR was a great forum but it did have more than its fair share of prats too (thankfully they kept most of their nonsense to the OT threads). Some of the behaviour over there would definitely not be welcome at a forum run by me, thats for sure. But yes, on the whole it was a very good forum for guitar related chat.
 11.
You can all go on about how rude I am -- it gives everyone a free shot to insult me. That's fine. But you may not want to reconsider being a musician if you can't take the slightest bit of direction.
You may want to consider your use of the written word if you can't "take a little direction". See, I can play that game too!
 12. I'd like to have a proper go on a rick bass again. The only time I've ever played one was when I was a total beginner for about five minutes in a shop. In terms of aesthetics and style I think they're brilliant. I also think it's great that they're so different to fender designs. I would really, really love one of their 12 strings but I just can't get on with how narrow the fretboard is :-(
 13.
What are people thinking when they bid £0.99p (as one of them did) on a WAL or similar expensive item?
They're thinking exactly the same as you are with your £100 bids. In the past I've used really low bids instead of "watching" the item. The reminders and notifications you get for eBay are different (and harder to miss) for an item you've actually bid on.
 14. Neotech. Their "Mega Bass Strap" is incredibly comfy.
 15.
It depends on what your idea of perfect is? A great sounding and playing bass for me is perfect. The neck pocket gap is irrelevant.
Exactly. You can't tell if a bass is good or not by looking at the neck pocket. You tell by playing it. If it sounds good and plays good then the neck is right, regardless of how many sheets of paper you can fit down the side of the neck. I can't help but wonder if people aren't inventing issues where there aren't any.
 16.
To put some context and balance to all of that, the Hall family actually acquired Rickenbacker in 1953, way before Japenese companies started copying Rickenbackers. I remain in the apparent minority who cannot see any problem with a company protecting its own design rights.
I have no problem with Rick protecting their design rights. The problem I have is that Rickenbacker aggressively pursue private sellers of old Ricky copies that were made *before* Rickenbackers legal rights to protection were granted and who are not breaking any British laws, and all the while there are loads of shops openly selling modern Ricky copies who apparently just get left to it by John Hall. It's a joke.

 18.
But the site is not a paid for service.
The marketplace is, and thats what is causing the "issues".
I'm not sure what you mean by the 'Mods do this for free' being stretched a bit, but they do,
Because its hard to tell someone "this site is run for free" on one hand and on the other hand say "it costs £20 to use the marketplace". I know how much work the mods do---and I'm thankful for it---but once money has changed hands peoples' attitudes invariably change, especially since the money isn't being handed over for "basschat membership" but for a very specific service provided by the site. Thinking purely from a user point of view, they've paid basschat for a service and whether or not basschat pays its mods / admins isn't really relevant at that point. If you buy a TV from Dixons what salary the sales assistant is on isn't relevant to your expectations of their service. There are, essentially, now two basschats---the free one which is an awesome forum staffed by awesome volunteers, and the marketplace which is a paid-for service. People's expectations of the two are naturally going to be different. Thats all I'm saying.
it becomes tiresome having to mod stuff where Members are chancing their arm, or grinding personal axes.
Absolutely, but not all comments or issues surrounding the marketplace fall into those categories. I personally think that it would have been better to charge a "membership fee", like talkbass, rather than providing a specific service in return for a fee. But then again its not my website so its not up to me!
 19.
it's almost always the Marketplace that causes these frictions. I don't know how the owners and mods feel about doing all this work and still getting criticised. It made me feel sad last night.
Once you start providing a paid-for service you are always going to get complaints. Once money started changing hands the "the mods do this for free, be thankful for the forum" attitude (an admirable attitude at that) was always going to be stretched a bit.
 20.
Thank god someone said it finally! I've tried just about every TE stack and combo (except the V's) and I've found them all dismal sounding and underpowered.
I won't quibble over the "dismal sounding" bit but I'm amazed anyone can think they're underpowered. I never have to turn them past about 3 or 4 on the dial before they get to the "drown out everyone else" stage...
 21. They seem to be killer basses. Shame I find them so horrifically ugly I wish I could get on with the looks, everyone raves about them so much...
 22.
There may be regional variations in availability. In the US at least it seems you can get a green SBMM SUB: http://www.musicians...h82042000004000
Crikey, even I quite like that!
 23.
I just imported a Bass valued at $499 and got stung for £93 import/handling costs! I'm not sure I'd bother importing again.
Thats pretty much what it costs. 25% off the total cost (item AND shipping) to cover the fees and duty. Importing isn't as worthwhile as it was a few years ago when the pound was stronger against the Yen and the Dollar.
 24. You wouldn't want to be in the conservatory anyway. It'll be too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter
 25.
Hmmm, well I guess it's fine if it works, but duty and tax (VAT) alone on a £1k guitar import from the US would normally work out at around £243. So I've no idea how Musician's Friend manage it, or how they've done a deal with UK Customs & Excise for the duty and VAT (legally the responsibility of the importer) to be paid up-front.
Lots of places now seem to be offering the same service, and there is some stuff on the HMRC website about it being possible to pay duty up front with transactions from some countries. I guess they're just trying to make international trade simpler.
