  1. Last place you want to be at an indoor rock concert is in the front row. As long as the mixing desk is central in the venue as it should be, get yourself as close to it as possible. If they can hear everything ok, so will you.
  2. OnSong is probably the gold standard for this, but it’s not cheap. If you stop the screen turning off in settings, then scanning your notes into PDF’s will work. Saved onto the iPad the stock MacOS Preview app is a PDF viewer. The main issue with this option is difficulty sorting the notes into any particular order. And scrolling if a note covers more than one page.
  3. In examining the post above in The Acme Newsreader Content Checker, I ran 48 different configurations from 'Contemporary Slang / English (UK)' through 'Cosmic Sophistry' (inclusive naturally) and came up with the following result. "Wallpaper." The Acme Newsreader 'content checker' examines florid prose and technobabble, extracts the insights, opinions, emotional impact etc., and gets at the crux of the message. In Preferences you can select Universal Themes, Undisputed Truths, Skewed Logic, Political Correctness, or other filters/search engines, and use the content checker to get at deeply obscured meaning contained in any kind of literature. If you're interested in distilling real meaning from polemics, hyperbole (it does a really fantastic job on hyperbole) and even gibberish, The Acme News Reader V.4.0.9f (with content checker), Windows and Mac, natch., is freeware and can be got from : Trans Global Monolithic-Based Panacea LLP. (Formally Stans Budget 8-Track & CB Radio Shack, Inc.) "Spiffy New Interface, Same Great Products and Service. “ Be the envy of your friends. Get The Acme Newsreader Content Checker.
  4. I used a Vox AC30 for quite a while, a long time ago. Despite it not being a bass amp it worked very well. I wish I still had it. Apart from that I’m pretty sure I’ve never used any other UK made gear, unless any leads, plugs, straps, covers, microphones and stands etc. are UK made.
  5. I have two in an Ibanez SR900 in place of the stock Sudo Bartolinis. Sounds amazing even with the stock Bart preamp.
  6. I came here expecting a discussion on alternative energy. So disappointing.
  7. Look at the Apple Refurb store. There’s always a bunch of iPads on there at reduced prices. Even Amazon has them. Especially as you already have OnSong and are familiar with Apple hardware etc. . A 12” first gen iPad Pro is ideal, but older models will do the job.
  8. I have a very similar trolley bought many years ago, can’t recall where. It is quite light and easy to carry, but handles loads well. Although not so good over rough ground. It also tends to wander about like a supermarket trolley when pushed. So it’s better to drag it.
  9. I have 2 questions. What happens if/when you remove the string retainer? I’ve never seen one of those on a jazz anyway. I’m old. Why don’t you use different strings if it doesn’t happen when you do? Maybe try temporarily replacing the A string with another brand as an experiment. As it’s obviously the strings, according to your post, change ‘em.

  11. I think the answer is yes, and not due to age or seasoning. My 72 jazz only needs a slight truss rod tweak if I change string gauge and/or move to lower tension strings. The build quality of the instrument may make a difference I suppose.
  12. A long time ago in a pub band far away, I had a guitarist who kept turning up his amp. It was because other members of the band kept turning it down behind his back.
  13. That’s an interesting idea, better than sticking a finger in yer ear. How does the bass sound. I presume you are also the bass player?
  14. 105-45 LaBellas here. When I used the Fender setup guide I couldn’t get it right. How I do it now, after checking relief, tune the open string then check at the 12th fret, not the harmonic. Adjust the saddle until both are in tune then check the 12th fret harmonic which should also be in tune. String height is a matter of taste so go with what suits you.. I repeat, the instrument will not be in perfect tune at every fret but this method is as close as I get.
  15. My only comments are, a fretted instrument will never be exactly in tune at all frets. You don’t say if the problem is with all strings. I note the bridge saddles on E and A on the Anniversary seem to be a long way back compared to my own, albeit very much older, Jazz, and your Standard.
  16. contextual alternatives is the default for this Open Type font, as used on this website. But it can be over ridden with a css property control by the web developer if he/she wants to. font-feature-settings: "calt" 0; would probably do it.
  17. I'm going to correct myself here having looked more closely at the Inter font this morning out of curiosity. It uses contextual alternatives to make certain characters adjust themselves according to the surrounding context. So the x in the examples here is moved off the base to be centred with the surrounding text. As it would be if typed as an upper case X. This feature can be disabled by the web developer should he choose to do so. It can also be overridden in some web browsers.
  18. It’s not insisting on anything. It’s a feature of the default font in the theme used for the website. It is quite a common feature of many fonts. The x glyph as used in 2x10 is not a letter, it’s a symbol. The font and the forum platform understand the intended usage as a symbol or shorthand for “by” and correct what is typed. It should be typed as 2X10 to be really correct. And yes the web developer could have changed the default font in the theme, but why bother, they are all sans serif and all look more or less the same.
  19. All websites will have a default font plus alternatives to take account of different browsers and operating systems. The font stack for the website basschat.co.uk is “Inter", "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif. Inter is the default for the forum posts, with user selectable options in the edit bar. Inter puts the x in 1x10 above the base line. It’s a small compromise to make for the sake of simplicity.
  20. The developer of this website set the default font for all the text. Including that used in this forum, but does offer several options for use. It’s up to the writer if they want to use one of the options, or even more than one.
  21. And it did. This is a feature of web fonts. While the 2 in my post may look the same, there are subtle differences, and there are 100s of fonts available.
  22. It’s the font wot does it. A different font may/will put the x on the base line. 1x10 in the default font. 1x10 in Lucinda Sans Unicode. If it works.
