I fail to recall what most adverts are about immediately after they finish. Murray mints, too good to hurry mints. Now that was a class act I’ll never forget.

All of the above can be useful, but don’t get too hung up on YouTube videos about proper playing technique. You play whatever way works best for you. Many BCers here started off before the internet existed and all we had were a few thin books, probably now out of print, and our eyes and ears. You therefore have it relatively easy, but use it wisely. If you want a teacher, get a proper bass teacher, not a guitarist. Learn how to set up your own instrument, and this is where the internet can be useful, but also confusing. Again, eyes and ears. Good luck, stick around, most don’t bite.

Ok you win.

I don’t know what the strings are but those silks are blue to my eyes. Hope that helps.

I don’t have a P bass but here is my experience with the 4 different instruments I do have. Jazz bass has had La Bella 760 FS on since so long I can’t remember. Except at one point last year when I tried a set TI Jazz Flats. And very soon reverted to the La Bellas. I put the TI’s on an Ibanez SR900 with Nordstrand Big Singles and that sounds and plays very nicely. A set of TI’s on an old medium scale Aria TSB 650, not so good. La Bella DTF’s on the other hand quite amazingly thumpy. TI’s on the Stingray 4HH sound and play very nice indeed. These are my ears and I’m keeping them, yours may give different results.

Can’t help with conditioners etc. except what I use on the car seats, probably not what you’re looking for. But I’ve used a leather strap for many years and I can’t say I’ve noticed a problem like you describe. Is there something special or unusual about the straps?

The Apple Care warranty is worldwide and covers repair and replacement anywhere on products bought from Apple or an official Apple Retailer. That includes the initial free 12 months. Many moons ago I bought a G4 MacBookPro in the Apple Store in New York which developed a fault a few months later back home in the UK. The Apple Store near me fixed for free despite it being a couple of months outside that initial 12 months.

I did ask that in Manny’s when I bought the Stingray but they wouldn’t oblige It does depend on the retailer and which state you’re in

Teenage girlfriend of mine I was very close to, who will remain nameless, went on to have a number 1 record and made a couple of really good albums. We lost touch with each other during that time. A fine actress and singer with a good reputation in the business, she didn’t want the fame and turned down some good opportunities. I have no idea where she is or what she is doing now. Sometimes you have to kick yourself for not persevering with a relationship.

New courier offering for musical instruments
Cliff Edge replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
It is a small freight forwarding company. Records show it’s been in business since 2018, 2 directors. Appears to be profitable although not hugely so. -
I did this and chanced the nothing to declare route and got stopped with a brand new Stingray. Import duty plus VAT plus the fine for even trying meant I didn’t save anything over buying the damn thing in London instead of New York.

New courier offering for musical instruments

It’s not unusual to have a domain name and use it for email without a website. -
Noted thanks.

Not a bass but I sold my Merc SLK to an elderly gentleman who turned up to collect it with 12k in notes in a Sainsbury’s carrier bag. All good:-)

Don’t feel bad, it’s a common error with people new to active basses. And those who don’t even know they’ve got an active bass. Don’t leave the lead plugged into the bass when not using it.

Hastily arranged almost last minute booking at a local sailing club to celebrate a birthday. Although walk ups were allowed in free. Despite a lot of other venues in the town having live music last night we got a reasonable crowd. Small room, no stage but a good sound. I gave the Stingray its first gig despite its initial reluctance to intonate properly, I had the Jazz on standby just in case, but it behaved itself, stayed in tune and sounded great. Free parking right outside the front door always a bonus especially so with the room being upstairs and no lift. Can’t have everything. No more gigs until the end of November due to holidays to get some sun before winter comes. No pics, we’re not that good looking.

Yes thanks I know about Strings and Things and I emailed them but they have not responded. I emailed Ernie Ball in the US and they came back with 3 UK partners they said could order them for me and Strings and Things wasn’t one of them. They suggested GuitarGuitar, Peach Guitars, and Andertons. I’ll try them next week.

1971 Fender Jazz pick up replacements advice
Cliff Edge replied to Woody1957's topic in Repairs and Technical
I dare say I could have but it was a long time ago and it never occurred to me, plus I needed the bass, I didn’t have a spare. -
1971 Fender Jazz pick up replacements advice
Cliff Edge replied to Woody1957's topic in Repairs and Technical
I replaced the pickups in my ‘72 Jazz with a Vintage 74 Jazz set from Fender. They sound great, very growly. Prior to that I was using Seymour Duncan something or other after the originals gave out many years ago and I threw them away in disgust. Don’t judge me, they were awful at the end. -
I’m in need of a set for a 2006 4HH as a previous owner has been irresponsible with the grub screws. Where can I buy a set please. Musicman don’t ship them to the UK. Thank you.

Songwriters are dead, long live the songwriter!
Cliff Edge replied to hooky_lowdown's topic in General Discussion
That would make it country blues, if there is still such a thing. I think there was/is. -
I can’t understand rap. I mean literally can’t understand it. Maybe my brain just switches off, or I just can’t be bothered, but I can’t unscramble the lyrics, it’s like a foreign language to me.

Thanks for the response but I’ve now bought one that doesn’t need refinishing.

Pub gigs used to be great until breweries started recruiting managers and landlords who couldn’t run a tap never mind a pub. They’re only in it because they like a good drink and think it’d be a good idea to run their own drinking hole. I saw great music pubs change inept landlords a number of times before eventually shutting down. That’s why I gave up gigging for a few years. Now I don’t do pubs. You can tell a good pub by the way the landlord presents themselves. If they’re scruffy and dressed in joggers it’s not a good place.

No of course it isn’t, it’s an illegal gambling joint.
