That does indeed look rather special I'll be interested to read your thoughts on how the P pup works out. Peter

I'm having loads of problems logging in on my iMac, so much so I wasn't able to tell anyone. Only way I can get in, for a short while until I'm booted out, is to delete all my cookies. Peter -
Sorry but you're wrong. It depends on the case too. Do you know what Parcelfarce's hoppers do to packages? You need a proper box and LOTs of shock absorption, ie. bubble wrap. The seller made a stupid and damn lazy decision to ship the bass like that. The case does not look like it could come close to handling the punishment Parecelforce would mete out to it.
Absolutely. When I send a bass out I can't sleep properly until it's arrived safely. If I sent a bass out packed like that I'd have nightmares Peter

The neck pocket on mine, with the original neck since ditched, was a great fit. Don't automatically assume you'll need a new pickup, mine sounds really good. I've got a white pearloid scratchplate and I know that it'll take some work to get it to fit. From 'Nick'
The other thing is, out of curiousity I put an old black scratchplate from a Tokai up to it, to see if it would fit. From what I can see, it wouldn't be a major modification to fit a P-Bass scratchplate - just a bit of trimming around the neck area.
I'll let you know how I get on but I'm awaiting new pots before I go for it. I've made every Moffat Bass Bash to date I think and this was brilliant, probably the best yet. There were very many beautiful basses and well, where do you start? I tried a Dingwall (it had no dings) and was amazed at the ease of playing. 33" scale 5 string really works well too. Outshined's basses are a personal take on things that I love. Neipheed's Victory was a great restoration. Some very beautiful basses, ACGs, Overwaters, Shukers, Statii even a Sue Ryder P, as well as a 'Pee' Bass. Better than all the basses were the people who organised and attended, thank you all. Peter

I think you need to read the thread as I'm sure it's been done.

I too am not 'grumpy'. At least I don't think so

Is it just me that thinks the hyperbole over these basses has gone a little crazy? I have one. The neck was really awful as were the strings. The rest is okay and for £60 the body, bridge and pickup (that's surprisingly good) have been a worthwhile purchase with a better neck installed. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but I feel like comments such as 'I've bought one to stash in case it becomes valuable' are losing touch with reality. It's a cheap P bass and sold at half price it represents good value. It's not a brilliant bass and I don't think it's the bargain of the century either, it simply is what it is. Peter
Im realy getting a soft spot for my white one (And when I say White I mean its WHITE!!) Fresh strings are in so she's in for a treat. The Dark Blue one should be in on monday. Ill have a fiddle and decide which one to bling. The other one I'll lay down in the cellar to appreciate. Im convinced these will be worth a fortune in a few years time A
You really are the optimist

Guys The strings are totally awful. Change the strings and it will make a HUGE difference believe me. With respect to the action. I had real problems with a neck that had no stability and a trussrod that rather than reduce the relief to address the action issue actually started to come out of the back of the neck Maybe I was unlucky (try applying pressure to the headstock and see how much the strings move away from the fretboard) but personally I found the neck to be the weak point of the bass and then again anyone can make a body and fit bits to it but making a decent neck takes a lot more skill. Hence: Peter
No I don't agree with this. I think you should be fine, although it entirely depends on the way ebay view this kind of thing, and not everyone seems to have confidence in their 'unique' legal viewpoint. I would explain, to the seller and paypal, that only the bass was for sale, only the bass was bid on and only the bass was won. A hard case was provided for shipping reasons and nothing was implied in the item description for it to be seen as anything other than a means to transport the item. Therefore condition is irrelevant, as it was only a means to protect the guitar and should be viewed upon as packaging materials, which is exactly how it was represented it in the item description. Would he return it to you if the cardboard box wasn't in as good condition as he thought? If the bubbles in the bubblewrap were too small? (I will include 3.2 metres of premium grade bubble wrap, bought second hand but with only minor evidence of previous usage. No popped bubbles and no sellotape damage.....) I kinda agree with burritobass in that to avoid complicated sellers, maybe you should spell this out in the description, but TBH if you need to start making a list of the things that aren't included in the sale, the item decription would be impossible (Kitchen table in photo- not included in sale. Cat on sofa next to guitar licking his balls- not included in sale). If you're advertising a guitar WITH a hardcase, then unless stated otherwise, I'd expect it to be the correct hardcase for the guitar (If the guitar should have come with a hardcase from new) in a condition to match the condition of the guitar. If it was an aftermarket case, or one in a shabby condition, then I'd expect to be told.
I don't give a damn about what YOU agree with. The OP asked for opinions and I gave mine. There is I feel a tendency to want to be popular and side with and support the OP in this matter but in reality that isn't helpful. As for comments like 'Out of interest can you name & shame the buyer, he has a place reserved in my banned bidders list'. I do wonder. We have one side of a story and as is not unusual on BC folk are forming a lynch mob. Get real Peter
If I remember correctly the ebay terms are that the buyer is responsible for the return of an item, but if you agree a refund, you have to refund the original P&P I would let him raise a dispute with paypal, and answer accordingly. You said it was shipped in a case, and it was, but it would help you in the future in a similar situation you described it as coming with a scruffy case, or case for transit only.
I agree. Playing devil's advocate, if I bought a bass advertised with a hard case I'd expect a serviceable item. It would depend on the bass too . If it was a newish and expensive bass I'd hope to receive the original case in good nick. So I can see where he's coming from.

Tis a shame if Sunbeam quality is suffering, especially at the price they are. Ernie Ball's are my 2nd choice but the Dunlops sound interesting. As there are, allegedly, only a handful of manufacturers, there's a lot of brand name crossover anyway. Newtone strings are British and often overlooked. Pyramid E strings have sounded dull in every set I've tried and it seems to be characteristic? Peter

Many thanks, appreciated greatly Just as a rider to this thread, pun intended. I tried moving the neck back and forth last night, holding the headstock end. It moves quite alarmingly (compared to Sandberg). I'm not sure if it did that prior to the trussrod excursion or not. There is little stability laterally although it holds it's tune okay. 34" longbow anyone? (I'm sat here whilst Arnie, our little Bengal man, is sneezing his head off snotting everywhere - poor fella has a cold and like most men, is making a right fuss)

Guys If you have a Fender neck can you try it for size on the Ryder Precision and get back to me. If it fits and you have a spare neck, likewise Peter
