1. Just a note to say that when I got home on Sunday the LM II was waiting for me. It was the original repaired unit. It's been about 2 months since the faulty unit was returned at my own expense. The Bass Centre tried to repair it and then passed it back to the importer. I would have been much happier if a new one had of been winging its way to me while they sorted it out. A choke (resistor) on the input wasn't soldered into place.
2. I thought I'd take the opportunity to show the progress of my new bass being built by Alan in Moffat: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/Specs/ I spent over 3 hours in Alan's workshop choosing body and headstock shapes and then going through his large selection of beautiful woods and choosing what I wanted, several times The bass is a single cut design. It was Alan's previous work that caused me to fall for the single cut design, having never been a fan before. I initially chose a type R design with the top 'horn' cutting back towards the bridge. After some thought and just in time I changed my mind and went for the type S shown below. The body is Hondo Mahogany faced back and front with Black Heart Sassafras. The 5 string fretted set neck is a 7 piece Macasser Ebony and Flame Sycamore laminate with a Macasser Ebony fretboard, headstock rear and cavity cover. 1st some wood: Here's the body laminated and shaped out: And here is the neck pocket routed: The pickups and going to be Aaron Armstrong's MM and humbucker, with Alan's own frequency based pre-amp built by John East. There will be coil tap switches for both. This picture shows the pickup formers and Hipshot bridge in place. I love this photo: Stunning isn't it Ebony wafer will produce the contrast strip. The finish is going to be 60% gloss for the body and 20% for the neck. I'm considering myself one very lucky customer.
3. Glad Lakland have been so good Shaun, don't apologise, no need, interesting stuff. Jon, really enjoyed last night. You have some quite stunning basses. Really awesome Peter
4. Shaun My BG for info is very different. As you can see from my photo the string seems to go right through the middle of the pole pieces. This is pretty much right, in fact if anything the G string lies about a mm the other way i.e. away from the edge of the fretboard. Just so you know it isn't the angle of the photo or anything like that.
5. Stunning isn't it Shaun, your one drove me to it actually! I don't have a problem with rollong the G off the board edge, although I do it very occasionally on other basses. Peter
6. Hiya all I'm in sunny Plymouth being attacked by two Burmese kittens! Yes it's a Bob Glaub bought from Thomann and it's filled a 'P' curiosity that was causing some GAS. I'm not a Fender expert but I'd say that these passive Laklands consistently sound like a 'good' Fender or even better. Those with greater experience may like to comment. The BG has all the P bass tone that I had imagined. As for looking sexy, well I have this fantasy around the bass 'player' from the 'Addicted to Love' video and this bass Both scratchplates came from Roger at Jeannie's Pickguards in the US. His service is exceptional and the prices are amazingly cheap. The fretboard on the BG is nicely figured too. My tutor has a black/maple Ray and I suppose I've been lusting after something that looks similar too. I had a look at Steve Tayste_2000's gear on Friday and was blown away by the detail on his Overwater neck. The Valenti P he's selling seems quite awesome too
7. Not being that keen on mint green: that's white pearloid btw. and most sexy of all IMHO: That's me away for a bit more than a week w/o a computer
8. Aint she sweet. And the other one's sure got some 'Mojo'
9. I see what you mean. Who's got it? Always the way isn't it
10. Wow Ped, quite something. That Alembic really does something for me. 'Dark sounding' ? Interesting
11. In the groove, excellent stuff
12. That's one great lookin' Ray Matt
13. I've seen people whose 1st item on eBay has been an expensive bass. When they have ackowledged this and offered collection and cash as an option I would have no qualms bidding. I had one bass that was looking a little dodgy and the seller had v low feedback. I asked the seller to photograph a copy of that days newspaper with the bass. I'm now the very chuffed owner of that Iceni Zoot I think this particular guy stinks. I've very little doubt that his previous sale does specify collection between Christchurch and Dunedin, in NZ. Fairly obviously cut and pasted from somewhere else.
14. I still don't entirely agree with you train of thought my man, but I am obviously Mr Grumpy tonight too
15. Dave It's good to see you circulating Alan's excellent work on Basschat. Spreading the gospel One day we'll all be worshipping (oops I mean playing) ACG's.
16.
You should never buy from someone stupid enough not to get some feedback before selling a Fender.
You're judging this guy as stupid? Do you know him? (I do suspect that this particular seller is very iffy though) But it'd be fine to sell an Ibanez or a Yamaha without feedback then Personally I disagree. There are other ways of reinforcing your honesty (and not being stupid) without generating feedback specifically to 'sell a Fender'. Everyone has to start off on eBay sometime and if it's selling a Fender then why not. Nothing against Fenders (That a Lakland wouldn't firmly put in it's place) of course.
17. The seller's previous deal has the words will deliver between 'Chriastchurch anmd Dunedin'. Strange, CK can confirm but both Christchurch and Dunedin are I believe in South Island New Zealand, not in the UK? Sign of dodgy copied sale details?
18. In my experience the two are definitely linked
19. Thanks again. This ones taking off on eBay since I discovered the mods. Daft not to have noticed then before of course. Peter
20. Okay, trying to create frustration with just a picture of the headstock It's working
21. Absolutely stunning basses and what a great creation in your self build too. Very classy
22. So the 330's, the better pickups weren't SD by any chance? Failing that it seems 315 not 325 then. Thanks for the help.
23. My Bass Collection 5 Jazz is presently for sale on eBay. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...p;rd=1&rd=1 I had a query as to the model number and removed the rear cover to see if it was under there. Lo and behold, no model number but I noticed that the pre-amp is a Seymour Duncan, as are the pickups. It appears to be a 91 bass too according to the serial number. Does anyone know the model No? The Seymour Duncan pre is Velcro'd to the rear cover which presumably means it's a retro fitted item together with the pups?
24. OG It's the former, Brune Street. Edited: Oops they're both in Brune Street, it's the latter one. I know that I may appear laid back with this but I'm giving the BC a chance to get the amp, preferably a new one, to me soonest. There is still a way ahead as I see it albeit a seriously delayed one. If this doesn't work out then I'll be acting along the lines you suggest. Maybe my fairly polite post will come to their attention and prompt them into chasing it up. There's been little evidence than my many phone calls have achieved the same
25. I'd just like to add a big thank you for all the work you guys have put in. If I'm honest I'm a bit fed up with all the moving around and losses involved but you guys are in the driving seat. So, did I say thank you
