1. I don't have a hard case at present for this one (I don't want to lose my remaining Hiscox). I could buy a cheapy to ship and would include it in the price if it weren't mega expansive (I think I can get one for a reasonable amount and I understand the caution here). One day I'll try a Wal but my new ACG build will have two of Alan's new multi coil pickups and an ACG03 so is in that direction I suspect. Note to self - I need another Hiscox
2.
Interesting. Do I presume correctly that the diddy switch is the Active/Passive, and the other the original pup selector, subject to the blend setting?
You are spot on Man of Wal
3.
If doods red one is anything to go by this is a cracker, great circuit as well. I suspect this will sound blacker though.
With the option of sweepable mid cut possibly not
4. Sorry no trades, if I didn't need the money for my custom build I wouldn't be selling. Peter

6. Many thanks Dood, your comments are particularly appreciated Peter
7. I bought this bass on BC from Kempy535 almost a year ago. His for sale thread is here and he has some really nice photos of this stunning bass (better than I can manage so I've included his thread) http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1540214 I replaced the Fender bridge that was corroded (and will be included in any sale) with a Babitz bridge that is a functional work of art. The Fender Electronics started to fail so I replaced them with a customised John East U-Retro that has the standard pickup 3 way switch as well as an active blend. The U-Reto has treble, bass, treble boost and sweepable mids. The installation was noisy and I recently shielded all the cavities and completely cured the noise issue. I was so impressed I placed the bass in a Gear Porn thread: http://basschat.co.u...fender-fan-but/ The above threads say it all really. If you want to view and noodle you are welcome, the bass is in the far NW at Kendal. The playability and tone on this stunning looking bass are remarkable. There's a couple of small dings on the front, some corrosion on the neck plate and that's about it. I think that I have the original electrics somewhere too. I would like to sell a bass to put some money to one side for an up and coming custom build. I've got too many basses. I was hoping to sell my mint Musicman Stingray 5 but there's been little interest. As I play 5 string basses I'd be okay with keeping the MM and selling the Fender. Whichever goes 1st the other stays put. The Musicman is here: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1912050 Musicman SR5 now withdrawn Price wise it's difficult. I've spent more than £300 on the bass but realise that money spent upgrading/repairing doesn't entirely reflect in the price. I'm looking for £675 plus Delivery. Here's some photos taken today with apologies for my inability to identify vertical :
8. What I meant is what John suggested for checking my noisy U Retro'd Jazz. Disconnect the pup and replace with a wire link in the terminals. If the hum goes its a shielding issue. Peter
9. It may be worth checking that all the shielded cavities are connected. Give John East an email. He is very helpful. If you link out the pup and it goes its a shielding issue. I used conductive paint and found it as effective but much easier than foil.
10. He also has the voice of an angel and is good enough to play percussion at this level. Oh and he plays guitar too. An amazing musician and from what I've seen an amazing bloke too
11.
My thoughts always!!
Please see my comments to Bilbo above
12. I thought you were going to ask about women
13. Thanks for the kind comments. It really has turned out well. Bilbo, I'd swop your playing ability for my practical ability
14. It'll not gather dust. It'll get dusted over and exercised regularly. I've played this bass yesterday and it really is a brilliant instrument. So much so that I've put my 1987 Fender Jazz Power Special up for sale. If it sells this will be withdrawn. Peter
15. A post Xmas bump. I find it difficult to believe that a bass this good and in this condition at this bargain price is still up for grabs . If anyone wants to visit and have a noodle it's fine, Kendal-ish
16. There are significant drugs in terms of harm caused and difficulty in doing without that don't often get a mention in the mainstream. Sugar and refined starches being the major one. If you say music is a drug because you find it difficult to do without then life itself must be the ultimate drug?
17. I've owned quite a few Fenders over the years. With the exception of my RI Precision non have made a lasting impression on my bass soul. But they have to get one right once in a while I've had my 1987 Fender Jazz Power Special for a while now having bought it on a whim on BC. I loved the look and the specs interested me. The Fender electronics started to fail and I looked around for a replacement. I'm a big fan of John East's pre-amps but I wanted to retain the original pickup switching option. John said it was possible and customised a U-Retro to have a 3 way switch, like the original, with neck/both/bridge options. The neat thing is that there is an active blend too. If the blend knob is set to bridge then the switch works otherwise it's the blend that's used. There's sweepable mids, bass, treble and a treble boost by lifting the treble knob. There's also an active/passive switch. The bass is CIJ, a P/J with a reversed P pickup. It's got 22 frets and has a layer of carbon weave in the neck that exits on the headstock making the bass look as if it has a matching black headstock. Playability is a bit special, the best Fender I've owned by far. The neck is lovely and slim and the action is low and very clean to play. It's a tone monster with a huge range of tones. I've also fitted a Babitz bridge purely as the original was corroded. It is a great bridge and looks very nice too imo. I had a problem with lots of noise that went when you touched the strings. I checked the bridge earth and it was fine. I spoke with John and he suggested shorting out the pups to see if it was a shielding issue. It was. Today I just put the bass back together after putting two coats of shielding paint in all the cavities and joining holes. It's now very sorted indeed. Yeah I know it's Xmas day but what's a single guy miles from family to do Peter
18. What price any product can be sold for is based purely on what the market is prepared to pay. In terms of bass guitars there's myth and there's reality. Myth will help push up prices but reality will hit home when neck dive, average tone and poor quality of build become the reality they always were. Don't get me wrong, I'd love an Alembic but I'm lucky enough to know that this quality of build and attention to what matters in the real world is available cheaper and closer to home.
19. That's so nice that I'm tempted to suggest my Stingray 5 but I really must sell it. I must, mustn't I?
20.
Yo Pete, if you're planning a trip northbound M6 to try the Aggy, let me know and if I'm not doing anything I'll come with you to see Pedro.
That would be a pleasure guys
21. John and I have previous We met in a car park, goods and cash exchanged hands and two furtive bassists made their way. John is a star! Peter
22. Sold and gone to a good home
23. It's the real deal, a modern, Pre-CBS tone machine. And I have an apparently rare (unique) BB2024MX
24. Pete. I have a 2 channel Aguilar AG500 that I've owned from new. It's surplus to requirements. You're welcome to try it out if you're interested. It's in a neat Boschma flight case but I have all the original packaging. Peter
25. There's more to this than a simple active vs passive thing. I've played passive basses that were poor. Poor pickups and that's the end of your tone. Active basses have an ability to rescue poor inherent tone imo. Generally I prefer active but my Yamaha BB2024MX with the Hollywood pups is huge in terms of tone and just doesn't need a boost.
