1. It might be a long way away but the choice and site is brilliant imo http://www.bassstringsonline.com
2. The B string on my custom ACG is totally awesome. 34" scale headless with a tapered end at the bridge. The B on my ACG J5 was a little bit wooly in comparison so I fitted a tapered B to see how it compared. I'm won over
3. Title amended to better reflect content.
4. And Alan of ACG fame (or notoriety ) is in fine form. Well, I have my headless Salace 5. A bass with a special connection that's going no-where. I do play her but wouldn't gig her. Out of home I'm exclusively using my ACG J5 but truth be known I would like to be exclusively using a 'full fat' Custom ACG. Not that the J isn't a great bass but ..... So off I trotted to Moffat this Morning (it's less than 2 hrs away) with ideas in my head. Ideas that are generated by my 1990 NT Warwick Thumb in terms of woods, a dark and stiff one, and by the new developments at Cringeon Towers. I had Moth like pretensions but practical realities moved me in another direction. After going through the permutations I'm going for: Finn 5 string, double cut, headed with 18mm string spacing. Set 7 piece neck of wenge and bubinga, wenge outside. Body a bubinga/wenge/bubinga sandwich. 34" scale with a wenge fretboard, bubinga headstock facing Black hardware, ACG03 pre-amp and a 10 coil ACG MC5 pickup at the bridge with a same sized humbucker at the neck (allowing an upgrade to two MC5's later if so desired - I suspect it will be). Luminay and a low battery light on the front. The bass will be no lightweight but I'm fine with that. It will also be waxed like a Warwick. Something tells me that it will be a monster I really think that the ACG03 has developed very well from the original ACG01. The mid boosts are 'intelligent' and in two global ranges with selectable frequencies for each. Very well thought out and implemented. The bubinga for the front has a lovely patterned finish while the rear will be slightly plainer to emphasise the front. What more can I say other than that seeing Alan all these years down the line and speccing my 4th custom ACG is as much a pleasure as ever. Pedro

CURVED AIR
I think you mean Sonja Kristina - yes she still fronts the band - we are on tour in the UK April 2013 so check the website - we amy be nearer than you think, and theres a new live album out at the mo - I think this is posted to the wrong forum.. should be in the gig one I think oops.
Thank you. You can tell Sonja that she made me most happy as a teenager. I'm 58 now I have and love 'Air Cut' and I'll check out your gigs. Peter

CURVED AIR

Is that rather lovely lady still in the band? Silvia Kristianson?? I have an album from when they originally reformed and it's cracking!
7. The original commissioner of the bass evidently modelled the spec on the 'MG' bass: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/90886-acg-finn-single-cut-less-than-a-month-old-for-sale/page__p__861260__hl__acg__fromsearch__1#entry861260 So this seller isn't the originator of this comparison. I am sure that this bass will be superb as having a lot of experience of Alan's work I know how good it is and also what extraordinary good value for money it is in terms of build quality, tone and ergonomics. I marvel at Alan's fretwork daily
8.
The Seeker by The Who. A great line and certainly one of Entwistles best.
That's the last one I've learned. Good but I've had even better. Heard it through the Grapevine perhaps?
9. Very nice indeed Mark. It's on the 3rd Feb 2013
10. I think that one of the problems guitarists can have is in comparing like for like wattage with the bass player. I mean ours was happy with his 18W Marshall until I let it slip that my rig was rated at 500 watts.
11.
Power soaks only work if speaker break-up isn't an important part of the guitar sound.
Thank christ he doesn't drive the thing into that territory.
12. I feel the pain. Our lead guitarist has just bought an identical rig. Evidently there's a load unit that can be connected to allow the controls to be higher, driving the amp hard while not going to silly volume levels. If the OP is like me and lives somewhere band opportunities aren't abundant there are times you have to put up with this nonsense. We are struggling trying to find a singer and I can see it falling down around my ears again
13. Hiya Mark Bump for a good guy. A Mersea guy no less. Which ACG do you have and are you coming to the Bash in Moffat? Peter
14.
The Barefaced Super12 is an obvious answer. There is also a Bergantino HD212 in the FS section. You won’t get better than either of those.
My opinion is that yes you will. Oh, with what? EAD Foundation 212.
15. The LM tube 800 and 500 have different types of power amps and I'm advised they are quite different in terms of tone. The 500 has a analog power amp and sounds warmer like the LMIII. The 800 has a digital power amp and has less low mids and a crisper high mids that can't be completely dialled out.
16. A bit of ritual disembowelling of guitard? He's a good sort actually. Having heard elsewhere what an EAD can project I'm sure that the cab part of my equation is covered. Maybe a part of this is just GAS? You are right Stu, I do need to get out front and listen to what's going on. The two guitarists do this and they like the sound of the bass as it is. The Aguilar is a cracking amp and I'm ready to believe that Aguilar under rate their wattage. The Aggie was only struggling (3 o'clock on the master volume with a volume control that feels non linear like most) in very poor conditions. I perhaps need to stick with what I've got and 'suck it and see' for the time being. I do think that the GB SM 9.2 is rather nice too though
17. I'm currently using an Aguilar AG500 head through my EAD Foundation 212 cab. It's the twin channel head. I love my tone and use the clean channel all the time if I'm honest. I play in a classic rock covers band and like a clean lower mid focused tone without too much clanky finger noise or zing. Our lead guitarist has just bought a Marshall 100W valve head with a 4 x 12 cab, seriously nice gear if that's your thing. At a practice recently in a church with horrible acoustics my Aguilar head was maxed out and struggling. Last night at practice we were back to the normal hall, he used his smaller combo and I was happy with my master volume at about 1 o'clock. I do find that the Aguilar clips very early on the gain (and clips a little before the clip light comes on). I can see him using his monster rig at gigs and as we're a loud band anyway (starting with the drummer who belts it out - but very well) so I'm thinking of getting a head with more 'headroom' to ensure that I can always get the necessary volume. My thoughts originally turned to the GB Shuttlemax 9.2 mainly because it has the FET channel that sounds right for me and the added controls on the presets. Then I got to reading about the TC RH 750. Now I owned a RH 450 and I'm one of those who just didn't get on with the tone. It's hard to say exactly why but it seemed a bit 'wooly'. I just ended up not wanting to use it without really understanding why. Perhaps if the RH 750 has the same tone I won't get on with it too? I'm aware that Wattage isn't a clear indicator of volume or the ability of a rig to give the tone you want at the necessary volume for the band and setting. I'm a bit concerned that I could go for more watts and not actually be any better off. The cab is a monster and isn't changing. I really can't imagine any better cab and anyone who's heard an EAD at the Moffat Bass Bash A/B testing would surely agree Peter
18. Me too
19. Does it still have the the Nordstrand I put in it? Great bass made even better by that pup. One of the very best basses I've owned. If I didn't already have too may basses AND I'd have spotted this earlier AND I had the money I'd have jumped at it.
20. I have one of these, bought out of nostalgia as I had one as my 1st bass. Seriously nice especially for the money.
21.
Still got mine.....Love it. Fantastic back up head but plenty good enough and powerful enough to use as a main gigging head. 500 watts at 2ohms.....what's not to love about it. I used mine last week for the second set of a Blues gig. On the "modern" setting it was damn close to the tone of my Eden WT550, just as loud too. I have one of the presets set to zero output volume so it works just like a mute button....very handy.
Glad it's still going strong
22. Brilliant product!
23. Cheers Stu, I've tried Bandmix but I must give the others a go.
24. As our singer has proved very unreliable we're left with a classic rock band with no front person and singer. We are an easy going bunch with preference for someone who'll be 100% committed. Peter
