1.
It sure is - I've been looking for one for ages too...just a pity about the EMGs IMO.
That's helpful thank you If you haven't heard this bass with the Hz then it's perhaps not quite valid to comment? The original pickups were defective and are 'unobtainium'. I've owned TRBP's in both 5 and 6 string format and I'd say that the Hz's are as good as if not better than the originals. They also look a great and a good match imo. Please note that these are not active pickups. Peter
2. We've even gone so far as to place ads in the local paper. This really is a location issue. The few good singers are already committed and everyone else wants to be a guitar hero
3. My point is, we really don't have an alternative. No singer and we probably fold. This is the 2nd band I've been in where a lack of singers prevents us moving forward. Frustrating it is.
4.
Do you happen to have the old pickups?
No I'm afraid not.
5. Okay so we're not very original but we're 3 committed musicians and a drummer who have worked hard to get a reasonably tight set. We do the 'old classic rock' thing and around here (Kendal in the Lakes) there's not a big music scene. The drummer is great, rock solid and loud making my job easy. The lead guitarist is a talented guy who's really into his 'classic rock' (hence the band's direction) and the rhythm guitarist is great. A good reliable band. Except the singer who cancels at short notice, doesn't learn his songs, turns up pissed and at times fails to show at all. Tonight I'd arranged for two of the lads at school where I work to come along to watch (an autistic residential school for boys). They are both musicians themselves. I needed to make some arrangements, get permission, a risk assessment done and clear it with the opposite shift. Just after I'd loaded the bass gear and the PA into the van I get a text, singer has cancelled. We've tried long and hard to find another singer and we're supposed to have our 1st gig in 3 weeks time If anyone knows of a singer in these parts who may be interested please pm me. Grr.......
6. Sorry Mike this needs to be sale only I'm afraid. Peter
7. A fairly rare bass I suspect from the very few I've seen around. A new project in my life of bassplaying makes the selling of some instruments a sad reality. This example is a real beauty in top condition. Neck through, 34" scale, piezo bridge with an ebony fingerboard and top build quality are all TRB trademarks. The electrics all work perfectly and there is very little tarnishing of the gold hardware. Mark wise it's in exceptional condition for a bass of it's age with light scuffs but there is one small ding as photographed. It's a P/J as you can see and defective pickup caused them to be replaced by previous owner with EMG Hz. The bass sounds really great with these pickups and looks good too imo. It comes with the original Yamaha hard case. Weight about 9.2 lbs in old money. I'm looking for £650 (now £625) plus shipping. Peter Here it is:
8. I bought this great bass on BC a little while back but a new project in my basslife forces me to sell 2 or even 3 basses (see elsewhere but a Yamaha TRB4P will be one of them). It's a 2003 model and is just about mint. I've done a thorough search for marks and found two tiny scratches on the front upper body that really don't photograph and are likely to polish out. I can try if any potential buyer wishes. It came with steel Rotosounds in good nick but I fitted Ernie Ball Super Slinky nickels. I can pop the Roto's in if anyone wishes. I'm looking for what I effectively paid, £900 (now £875) (now £850) A stunning looking bass (I think that the matching headstock really sets it off beautifully) in just about mint condition, comes with original case. Shipping extra Peter
9.
I haven't seen Thin Lizzy play live since the Thunder & Lightning Tour. I'm tempted to go see them this coming week, when they play in Birmingham. Does anyone know if they play any new material from the forthcoming new album? Oh yes, Marco is a wicked bass player
I last saw `lizzy' on the Johnny The Fox' tour
10. It might be a long way away but the choice and site is brilliant imo http://www.bassstringsonline.com
11. The B string on my custom ACG is totally awesome. 34" scale headless with a tapered end at the bridge. The B on my ACG J5 was a little bit wooly in comparison so I fitted a tapered B to see how it compared. I'm won over
12. Title amended to better reflect content.
13. And Alan of ACG fame (or notoriety ) is in fine form. Well, I have my headless Salace 5. A bass with a special connection that's going no-where. I do play her but wouldn't gig her. Out of home I'm exclusively using my ACG J5 but truth be known I would like to be exclusively using a 'full fat' Custom ACG. Not that the J isn't a great bass but ..... So off I trotted to Moffat this Morning (it's less than 2 hrs away) with ideas in my head. Ideas that are generated by my 1990 NT Warwick Thumb in terms of woods, a dark and stiff one, and by the new developments at Cringeon Towers. I had Moth like pretensions but practical realities moved me in another direction. After going through the permutations I'm going for: Finn 5 string, double cut, headed with 18mm string spacing. Set 7 piece neck of wenge and bubinga, wenge outside. Body a bubinga/wenge/bubinga sandwich. 34" scale with a wenge fretboard, bubinga headstock facing Black hardware, ACG03 pre-amp and a 10 coil ACG MC5 pickup at the bridge with a same sized humbucker at the neck (allowing an upgrade to two MC5's later if so desired - I suspect it will be). Luminay and a low battery light on the front. The bass will be no lightweight but I'm fine with that. It will also be waxed like a Warwick. Something tells me that it will be a monster I really think that the ACG03 has developed very well from the original ACG01. The mid boosts are 'intelligent' and in two global ranges with selectable frequencies for each. Very well thought out and implemented. The bubinga for the front has a lovely patterned finish while the rear will be slightly plainer to emphasise the front. What more can I say other than that seeing Alan all these years down the line and speccing my 4th custom ACG is as much a pleasure as ever. Pedro
I think you mean Sonja Kristina - yes she still fronts the band - we are on tour in the UK April 2013 so check the website - we amy be nearer than you think, and theres a new live album out at the mo - I think this is posted to the wrong forum.. should be in the gig one I think oops.
Thank you. You can tell Sonja that she made me most happy as a teenager. I'm 58 now I have and love 'Air Cut' and I'll check out your gigs. Peter

CURVED AIR

Is that rather lovely lady still in the band? Silvia Kristianson?? I have an album from when they originally reformed and it's cracking!
16. The original commissioner of the bass evidently modelled the spec on the 'MG' bass: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/90886-acg-finn-single-cut-less-than-a-month-old-for-sale/page__p__861260__hl__acg__fromsearch__1#entry861260 So this seller isn't the originator of this comparison. I am sure that this bass will be superb as having a lot of experience of Alan's work I know how good it is and also what extraordinary good value for money it is in terms of build quality, tone and ergonomics. I marvel at Alan's fretwork daily
17.
The Seeker by The Who. A great line and certainly one of Entwistles best.
That's the last one I've learned. Good but I've had even better. Heard it through the Grapevine perhaps?
18. Very nice indeed Mark. It's on the 3rd Feb 2013
19. I think that one of the problems guitarists can have is in comparing like for like wattage with the bass player. I mean ours was happy with his 18W Marshall until I let it slip that my rig was rated at 500 watts.
20.
Power soaks only work if speaker break-up isn't an important part of the guitar sound.
Thank christ he doesn't drive the thing into that territory.
21. I feel the pain. Our lead guitarist has just bought an identical rig. Evidently there's a load unit that can be connected to allow the controls to be higher, driving the amp hard while not going to silly volume levels. If the OP is like me and lives somewhere band opportunities aren't abundant there are times you have to put up with this nonsense. We are struggling trying to find a singer and I can see it falling down around my ears again
22. Hiya Mark Bump for a good guy. A Mersea guy no less. Which ACG do you have and are you coming to the Bash in Moffat? Peter
23.
The Barefaced Super12 is an obvious answer. There is also a Bergantino HD212 in the FS section. You won’t get better than either of those.
My opinion is that yes you will. Oh, with what? EAD Foundation 212.
24. The LM tube 800 and 500 have different types of power amps and I'm advised they are quite different in terms of tone. The 500 has a analog power amp and sounds warmer like the LMIII. The 800 has a digital power amp and has less low mids and a crisper high mids that can't be completely dialled out.
