1. I'd have thought about coming but I'm away to Moffat. I actually got married in Pelaw
2. Any reasonable offers (appreciating this isn't an auction) before eBay. A stupendous bass at a very realistic price considering the condition, quality, playability and upgrades. Peter
3.
Well that's very sexy indeed! Nicest ACG I think I've seen! Truckstop
I'm sorry but, as nice as Mike's beast undoubtedly is, you must be blind. My opinion of course I prefer my wood naked. Saying that this is one of my ACGs but Alan changed the hardware to black for me.
4.
Yep, just listened to it. Quite like it, and am sure with a few more listens will like it more. Nice to see Bowie back making good material.
That's me too.
5. To be honest I don't know. I never got around to using it. I'll have a closer look at the specs.
4 x 1/4" TRS line inputs (2 Stereo Pairs)
I think it will. Peter
6. Still at £120 and a bit of a bargain I think. Peter
7. What's the appeal of a fretless? Mwaahaha
8. Okay, as much as it pains me to throw money away, I'll drop the price to £625 plus UK delivery. These basses are awesome before the £300 of upgrades that really are 'upgrades'. Peter
9.
I loved the one I had but it was too heavy for me. If they were 8lb they would be perfect.
I've just put that bass down I'm a wee skinny (and fairly old) guy and heavy basses don't seem to worry me too much. My new ACG build is exclusively Wenge and bubinga so it won't be a lightweight. I had a Pearl White Sterling 5 for a while and it was a beautiful thing but it was neck heavy, I fitted lightweight tuners which helped a lot. I still sold it. It just didn't gel. I've never owned or played a 4 string Ray and I'd like to try a good one particularly a 2EQ to see what all the fuss is about. I'm going to try the SR5 at the next band gathering instead of my ACG J5. The ACG is immense in terms of tone and playability so it'll be interesting to see how they compare. If I keep the SR5 I'd love to find a Nordstrand pup for it. I fitted one to the lovely Rita (a 4 string Sterling in orange and well known on BC) and the improvement was immense. Now that's a MM I miss Peter
10.
I love the look of those EAD 212's. Did I read somewhere that they are only building them to order now?
You'd need to speak to Dave Perry that makes them. He's a top bloke, very friendly and he might have some builds in the pipeline.
11. I run my LM Tube through an EAD Foundation 212. I've used Aguilar DB's and GS's and I've heard a back to back comparison with a Barefaced cab (albeit an earlier one) and I've not heard better.
12. I've decided to withdraw this bass and focus on selling the Jazz Power Special
13. I don't have a hard case at present for this one (I don't want to lose my remaining Hiscox). I could buy a cheapy to ship and would include it in the price if it weren't mega expansive (I think I can get one for a reasonable amount and I understand the caution here). One day I'll try a Wal but my new ACG build will have two of Alan's new multi coil pickups and an ACG03 so is in that direction I suspect. Note to self - I need another Hiscox
14.
Interesting. Do I presume correctly that the diddy switch is the Active/Passive, and the other the original pup selector, subject to the blend setting?
You are spot on Man of Wal
15.
If doods red one is anything to go by this is a cracker, great circuit as well. I suspect this will sound blacker though.
With the option of sweepable mid cut possibly not
16. Sorry no trades, if I didn't need the money for my custom build I wouldn't be selling. Peter
17. Sorry no trades, if I didn't need the money for my custom build I wouldn't be selling. Peter
18. Many thanks Dood, your comments are particularly appreciated Peter
19. I bought this bass on BC from Kempy535 almost a year ago. His for sale thread is here and he has some really nice photos of this stunning bass (better than I can manage so I've included his thread) http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1540214 I replaced the Fender bridge that was corroded (and will be included in any sale) with a Babitz bridge that is a functional work of art. The Fender Electronics started to fail so I replaced them with a customised John East U-Retro that has the standard pickup 3 way switch as well as an active blend. The U-Reto has treble, bass, treble boost and sweepable mids. The installation was noisy and I recently shielded all the cavities and completely cured the noise issue. I was so impressed I placed the bass in a Gear Porn thread: http://basschat.co.u...fender-fan-but/ The above threads say it all really. If you want to view and noodle you are welcome, the bass is in the far NW at Kendal. The playability and tone on this stunning looking bass are remarkable. There's a couple of small dings on the front, some corrosion on the neck plate and that's about it. I think that I have the original electrics somewhere too. I would like to sell a bass to put some money to one side for an up and coming custom build. I've got too many basses. I was hoping to sell my mint Musicman Stingray 5 but there's been little interest. As I play 5 string basses I'd be okay with keeping the MM and selling the Fender. Whichever goes 1st the other stays put. The Musicman is here: http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry1912050 Musicman SR5 now withdrawn Price wise it's difficult. I've spent more than £300 on the bass but realise that money spent upgrading/repairing doesn't entirely reflect in the price. I'm looking for £675 plus Delivery. Here's some photos taken today with apologies for my inability to identify vertical :
20. What I meant is what John suggested for checking my noisy U Retro'd Jazz. Disconnect the pup and replace with a wire link in the terminals. If the hum goes its a shielding issue. Peter
21. It may be worth checking that all the shielded cavities are connected. Give John East an email. He is very helpful. If you link out the pup and it goes its a shielding issue. I used conductive paint and found it as effective but much easier than foil.
