[/quote] I sold my Kubicki to Jan Hollberg, a very nice chap indeed - they are the best traditional sounding slap basses, Status/Modulus is a different world - I've personally never liked a thru neck bass' slap tone

Aww wicked! Thanks guys i've got a sod of an assignment to write for University, these should keep me awake until the morning! I love ink illusian by Alain Caron and Michael Manring's enormous room but the rest have yet to be heard! This has to be my favourite fretless bass recording to date if I take Jaco out of the equation. One of the best Santana songs IMHO, made me dip my hand in my pocket to get my Cort A4 defretted by Overwater. That said, i've never transcribed it! I had one of these and the build quality, weight, playability and electronics were flawless the only niggles I had were that the 35" scale took a little getting used to, thought the tension was great. The preamp could do with a passive bypass switch - wouldn't need a backup then. I also prefer the dark finish shown here, mine was a pale maple quilt top - stunning but I don't like pale wood. I'll tell you what, you won't find anything this good for that starting price, very funky indeed. GO PEAVEY USA!! Hope someone picks up on it All the best guys! Oli Matt

Love the shape of these basses, traditional finish! I'd change the pickguard to black only because I think it looks better with the maple. Jack of all trade electronics kind of like a G&L. Congratulations on the duty charges!! I got stiffed 100 or so quid importing a guitar

Billy Sheehan's book and DVD was really helpful to me - I don't play his style but the whole three finger technique and warm up exercises are a gem. I prefer the rockschool/Ed Friedland/Hal Leonard books for bass - the DVD's are pretty awful (and expensive!), All star right and left hand techniques were gash, Tony somebodies groove techniques were just as bad. Lick Library is fantastic for guitar tuition, they have just 3 for bass - mark king, john paul jones and john deacon, I haven't bought them as I can work out the latter twos stuff myself and Mark King leaves me cold. No patience for youtube lessons.
