1. That would suit me down to the ground
2. I love it but not for the money, why change the EB3?? Or does this one balance properly?
3.
bump for an amazing bass! I played a fretted one and have never found a better 4 string. If it were me i'd happily give up a Ray for one!
+1
4. Hi Zapp, Thanks very much! I really do love the ISF control, I got a chance to try one out in Cardiff yesterday and really wanted to see if I could get a Santana tone through the America side of things but you can't help yourself just switching it back to the UK haha. These Bad Cats I need to try, i've only discovered them recently! Before I was set on Orange and now i'm just confused lol. Best of luck with the sale!! Really nice discount on something brand new.
5. I spend so long just staring at these basses, the wood choices, shape and even the pickup config is so exotic and unique . The bloodwood and wenge neck looks fantastic and no doubt plays without effort if its by Stu's spec
6.
Oh the history of that one! I mentioned it to John Birch when I first heard about it; he was ballistic! It's not one of his he said, someone had used his parts on a body made by someone else & was passing it off. (It's good old MG that has it) It next turned up in Guitar & Bass in someone's collection, claiming it has belonged to Andy Scott of The Sweet as a promo item for their hit "Little Willy". Time for someone else to go ballistic - Andy wrote a disclaimer for the magazine denying any connection with the guitar in any way shape or form. Strangely enough the guitar then went back into the ownership of MG in one of their Denmark St shops. If you see it on Ebay they now claim it was made for Showaddywaddy; but if you see it in the window of their shop, last time I looked it said it was made for Dave Hill, which I know for a fact is a lie. I've been told by Greg Dorsett that if you see it up close & personal it has no JB logo - and stinks of fresh paint.
Hahaha I can't imagine who would wanna own up to it!
7.
Anything apart from Fenders, Rickenbackers & Stingrays - same as always really.
Nailed it.
8. You torture me , first the fender and now the perfect amp I need without being greedy. Could you give a mini review please?
9.
I emailed them. I just had this reply. Hi, I`m very sorry because i cannot reply so soon, but i was out of my town with my father, because is very sick and i must to stay with him. i`m based in Lerwick, if you are still interested ,let me know Thx, Strange phrasing . I've relied that I'm sorry to hear about her Father. But what a coincidence because I live in Lerwick too, so can I call around and try the bass LOL.
Gold!
10. this guitar, i've owned the longest, the best bargain i've found and serious contender to my favourite guitar is perhaps leaving me tomorrow , a truly forced sale
11.
Luverley geetar you got there. If I had the funds I would have had it away
Thanks monquixote, it is a sterling example of a stratocaster and should be gone tomorrow if the potential buyer takes it. Will be missed! US G&Ls guitars like this are rare
12. I just wanna play a scale on this, just one. Big fan of the 6 string Jazz look.
13. Always wanted one of these and to start and Judas Priest tribute band where I come out dressed as a solar angel with it
14. A BC Rich Widow!! How very Blackie Lawless of you!
15. I don't like basses that make me look like a midget
16.
Pass the sandpaper... where's the sunburst paint!
+1
17. Thats a fantastic setup! I love the Warwick tone, nothing funkier. Musicman stuff is all too bright for me, whereas Warwick is more dull...but in a groovy way!! Really like the Ashdown combo too! Great gear.
18. There was a penis one on Ebay for ages, probably like 3 years lol wonder why? I like the Glitterband Star
19.
Ahem? THIS is the most recent JB job I found for him - and it'll be the last ............. (JB customised a lot of Gibsons) If it's the same guy you're talking about?
Oops, sorry I missed the post! Yup same chap
20.
Thanks. I think you'd be very happy with an OW Jazz. They certainly are the best that I have played. Even with different pickups and preamps, these two do have a sound characteristic, that I really enjoy.
What preamps do they use in the Jazzes out of interest? I never used to like the quiet, ultra clear, hi-fi preamps they made themselves because it wasn't round/woody enough and no attack either - saying that, they'd be perfect for tone moulding with pedals, preamps and eq'ing though I guess! I was told by the previous owner of my Marleaux that they used customized Glockenlang preamps, it was loud, vintage jazz sounding and fretless...I miss it so
21. Makes me happy to know my Ryder looks that nice underneath . I usually don't like the look of P/MM basses so i'm intrigued to see what this turns out like. Thank you for going in to depth about the products your using/methods etc, very helpful for future reference!!!
22. I received Garbev's Fretless Marleaux 5 in a trade and can confirm that this Tobias also had a flawless 34" scale B to match it - A real versatile, heavy duty workhorse + BIG TONE!! Gary's a lovely chap to deal with and knows his gear...can damn well play it too!
23. I owned a '72 Rickenbacker 4001 Custom Copy...I do still have pictures but nothing I upload is compatible anymore, so I'll add a photobucket link soon! My first guitar teacher owned a double neck SG and i've been in a band where the guitarist used a J series and i've played a double neck 4001 guitar which was in a bad way (faded finish + broken neck), a sound construction but cosmetically 'relic'd' J1 (niiiice!) as well as an EB3 Birch, sadly neck heavy, modded and just plain awful - shop owner wanted towards 2k for it!! If you PM me I know the worth of the 4001's too after a pro valuation and an SG collector to anyone who has one... Regarding mine... Pros: Look - Beautiful Sunburst/Black and Maple finish and backplate too, the controls made it look serious too, many a compliment! Build - Mine was pretty sound but I've heard loads of problems, particularly to do with neck inconsistencies (dead spots, sustain, intonation and one case even where it was too shallow to setup!! So be careful!!) Tone - Thick Geezer Butler sounding bass (probably the most inspirational bass player for a rock band situation IMO) Cons: Vinegar sticky laquer - slowed playability and required cleaning after every use High output pickups - crackle upon touch so pick only 34" scale - too much of a stretch for me so +1 for Short Scale! Truss Rod - moved about lots and required tool other than an allen key, Chris May (Overwater) said he thought this was due to lack of use following his setup. In hindsight I should have used Flatwounds for some extra tension
