1. Always wanted one of these and to start and Judas Priest tribute band where I come out dressed as a solar angel with it
2. A BC Rich Widow!! How very Blackie Lawless of you!
3. I don't like basses that make me look like a midget
4.
Pass the sandpaper... where's the sunburst paint!
+1
5. Thats a fantastic setup! I love the Warwick tone, nothing funkier. Musicman stuff is all too bright for me, whereas Warwick is more dull...but in a groovy way!! Really like the Ashdown combo too! Great gear.
6. There was a penis one on Ebay for ages, probably like 3 years lol wonder why? I like the Glitterband Star
7.
Ahem? THIS is the most recent JB job I found for him - and it'll be the last ............. (JB customised a lot of Gibsons) If it's the same guy you're talking about?
Oops, sorry I missed the post! Yup same chap
8.
Thanks. I think you'd be very happy with an OW Jazz. They certainly are the best that I have played. Even with different pickups and preamps, these two do have a sound characteristic, that I really enjoy.
What preamps do they use in the Jazzes out of interest? I never used to like the quiet, ultra clear, hi-fi preamps they made themselves because it wasn't round/woody enough and no attack either - saying that, they'd be perfect for tone moulding with pedals, preamps and eq'ing though I guess! I was told by the previous owner of my Marleaux that they used customized Glockenlang preamps, it was loud, vintage jazz sounding and fretless...I miss it so
9. Makes me happy to know my Ryder looks that nice underneath . I usually don't like the look of P/MM basses so i'm intrigued to see what this turns out like. Thank you for going in to depth about the products your using/methods etc, very helpful for future reference!!!
10. I received Garbev's Fretless Marleaux 5 in a trade and can confirm that this Tobias also had a flawless 34" scale B to match it - A real versatile, heavy duty workhorse + BIG TONE!! Gary's a lovely chap to deal with and knows his gear...can damn well play it too!
11. I owned a '72 Rickenbacker 4001 Custom Copy...I do still have pictures but nothing I upload is compatible anymore, so I'll add a photobucket link soon! My first guitar teacher owned a double neck SG and i've been in a band where the guitarist used a J series and i've played a double neck 4001 guitar which was in a bad way (faded finish + broken neck), a sound construction but cosmetically 'relic'd' J1 (niiiice!) as well as an EB3 Birch, sadly neck heavy, modded and just plain awful - shop owner wanted towards 2k for it!! If you PM me I know the worth of the 4001's too after a pro valuation and an SG collector to anyone who has one... Regarding mine... Pros: Look - Beautiful Sunburst/Black and Maple finish and backplate too, the controls made it look serious too, many a compliment! Build - Mine was pretty sound but I've heard loads of problems, particularly to do with neck inconsistencies (dead spots, sustain, intonation and one case even where it was too shallow to setup!! So be careful!!) Tone - Thick Geezer Butler sounding bass (probably the most inspirational bass player for a rock band situation IMO) Cons: Vinegar sticky laquer - slowed playability and required cleaning after every use High output pickups - crackle upon touch so pick only 34" scale - too much of a stretch for me so +1 for Short Scale! Truss Rod - moved about lots and required tool other than an allen key, Chris May (Overwater) said he thought this was due to lack of use following his setup. In hindsight I should have used Flatwounds for some extra tension
12.
However for the ultimate PJ you get this...
How true, that one on the left
13.
ESP makes an LTD Vintage (with a "distressed finition", like a "road worn" one) PJ model. I never played it but I read some good reviews on it. You'll find it for less than 400 £ on the Internet.
I'd go for the Sunburst one , I love ESP/ LTD but I heard that these are heavy somewhere I think??
14.
The Darryl Jones 5
Naw, traditional shape is best! Although I hear the JO5's weigh a tonne!! So perhaps the smaller jazz body of the DJ5 improves on that..?
15. I prefer the 55 02 tone wise, I used the same electronics for years. You may not grind but those preamps have great presence on stage, passively brillaint in mix too - chap from Genesis uses a plain black one . On the con side I think they're ugly basses...and not in the good way unfortunately IMO. Oh and Rosewood btw
16.
Niiiiiice!
+1!
17. Thats a good price if you love black basses
18. This without the frets and flatwounds would be my ideal bass. Gotta say the singlecut doesn't look great: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XKFvZDwKRvc...mp;feature=fvwp Would have looked better without any cuts like an acoustic
19. I would be interested in a part exchange for both my G&L Legacy Stratocaster and my ESP PC-2V TOGETHER. I would also be happy to consider part exchange for my Masterbuilt Charvel Star Legacy Bolt (1 of 5).

21. I started on a bass identical to yours, was the best beginner bass for the money around at the time (according to harmony central). Good luck with the sale!
